[Warm] Netgear WNDR3700 Rangemax Router $54.99 Shipped [dailysteals.com]

I have owned both. The 3700 stayed at the place I moved out of and I picked up the 4000. Even though there isn't a huge difference hardware wise, I think I like the 3700 more. It just seemed to work better with my devices on the wireless side. The wired devices act the same but my laptop and phone seemed to just work better with the 3700.

ANYWAY, it is factory recertified but if you all ends well, awesome router.

I have one of those running at my house and it works great for streaming and moving large chunks of data around (mostly RAW digital photos for me). Especially good if you have a good MIMO wireless card in your laptop that can take advantage of the bandwidth.

I have one of these for my house. Great wireless connectivity on simultaneously on 5GHz and 2.4. Gigabit is great for file transfers. I haven't tried the USB connection yet. I replaced a Buffalo WHR-G54S running Tomato with this and definitely noticed an improvement on my 20 Mbps cable connection.

I have the 3700 as well for over a year now. I love it since it doesn't randomly reboot or hang when there is large amount of dl/ul going on. Wireless range is slightly better than my old WRT54G but that's only because I only have G devices to test so it could be the G's limitation. I also have a D-Link gigabit unmanaged switch to add more ports. This is a steal at $50 even for refurb.

Hell, I'm in for one. Fingers crossed I don't get bit by the refurb curse.

I rolled the dice. I'm curious if we'll get ver 1 or 2. I tried v2 right after it came out, but it had DNS problems due to the firmware, and since it was new, it was the only firmware available. I figured I'd wait til it was straightened out, even sweeter if I get it for 1/3rd of the price it was then.

I have this in my home network and I couldn't be any happier with its performance. $50 bucks for a re-certifed is not that bad, IMO it's a pretty good deal.

Yep if anyone can give me good reasons not to experiment with the 3700 vs e4200 let me know! Worst case scenario I'd just sell the other and probably not really lose much money if any at all. I'm still having problems with torrenting + gaming at the same time with the e4200, it's rock solid otherwise. QoS of Linksys or whatever doesn't seem to handle it very well.

What happens? Does torrenting hurt your gaming, or vice versa, or they both suck? There should be a way to prioritize the gaming in the admin interface (QoS).

Some examples.

I'm torrenting along at say 300-400 kb/s total (3 or 4 torrents)
My roommate is playing Starcraft 2
I'm Playing Terrarria with 2 computers (1 host 1 client)
My other roomate streams video

I'd say that's the most taxed the network will ever get.

Terrarria's client will drop every 5-10 minutes
Streaming Video will be slow/choppy
SC2 roommate will complain about lag

I forgot what I did but I set some priorities on certain ports in the router and it seemed to help a little bit, also changed some uTorrent settings, but in the end the difference wasn't dramatic.

Is 300-400kb/s all you can get when downloading, or do you have the client limited to that? If that's all you can get without limiting it, you are way over-taxing that connection.

I love this router, it's solid as a rock and fast.

Make sure you upgrade the firmware, one of the early revisions has an issue that causes constant disconnect issues with Exchange and some persistent connection based software.

What a shame I've been wanting this router for a long time but recently purchased a different one due to the price. These routers are great, especially with DDWRT if you're a little adventurous.

torrenting 300k could mean you're making hundreds of really small connections at 1k - 10k each. the download speed isn't what would kill you, it's just the number of connections total.

depending on what you were doing, it may have very well been your modem itself having the issues trying to form that many mini connections at the same time, unless you were having internal LAN issues.

if you subscribe to a usenet provider, you can generally dl your max speed in maybe 5 threads and you don't have to worry about maxing out connections. I get much better performance there than I ever did on torrents and I don't choke my network anymore either.

For those that picked this up, you may also want to look at an OpenWRT build for it as well. I recommend Arokh's builds, but it's not for the beginner. DD-WRT is a little more user friendly in that regard.

It's the sheer number of packets it has to route. A more powerful cpu (such as the 680mhz this netgear has) will help.

BT seems like an "optional" thing that's pushing this over the top - what you really need is some way to adjust it when people start up other network-intensive apps. If you had dd-wrt, then it might be possible to create some scripts to change the bittorrent parameters in real-time when specific other uses are detected, or packet count reaches some level. You'd have to know what you're doing in that regard.

What in the FUCK? Why does it take a week+ to get a shipping confirmation? Has anyone ordered from them in the past?

I wouldn't freak out just yet.
I've never ordered from them, but it looks like their setup is similar to Woot and the other liquidation type sites. Woot is probably the most successful of these sites, and it can still take them 2 weeks to ship an item.

This is typical for this sort of site guys.
Now hopefully they don't make me eat these words (I ordered one too)

Is that a direct quote from them? Cause if that's the kind of response they give for their piss poor service I'd have to be obliged to tell them to fuck themselves.

Or if you're have trouble doing the math,

We stupid customers may have trouble "doing the math" but maybe you could learn how to use fucking spell check before posting it on your official sites faq..or maybe not..

Maybe they should relaunch their site and call it DailyD-Bags!

Just sayin..:D

No update for my order (8/3) either. Hopefully they start shipping out soon.

I sent them an email and they replied saying they'll ship it out tomorrow.

I emailed them yesterday and here's what I got from them today.

Hi,
I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience! There is a slight delay in receiving the item from our supplier. However: it should be coming in very soon and shipping out soon after. When your item ships you will receive your tacking information. Thank you for your patience! Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
Jordan,
