WD1502FAEX 79.00 No Rebate

Man, that's tempting. Already decided to pick up an SSD after my 1.5 fills up, and make my current 1TB OS boot drive a storage drive.

Nice find, though.

Been looking for a large and relatively fast dedicated drive for all my steam games. Currently I only have enough space to install half my games. Might just bite on this later today. Thanks!

If only their next day shipping wasn't $40... My 1.5TB Seagate started clicking this morning and has made itself scarce from Windows...

Damn, I just order and received the 2.0tb version two days ago for a lot more. This is a hot deal, the drive is much faster than my 1tb Hitachi that's a several years old.

Thanks for the link OP, I was looking at getting one of these anyway and snagged it now

I'm tempted to get the WD hdd. I need an HDD for my htpc. Most likely will get it. This will still work with a mobo that only has sata 3 Gb/s ports, no?

anyone worried about all the DOA/Failures in the comments? I would love to get 2 of these and do raid0, but all the comments has me a bit worried.

Yes SATA 2 is compatible with SATA 3. The only difference is a small boost in speed with SATA 3, but probably not enough of a difference to tell with the naked eye.

I always consider these deals and then I almost never give in because the GB to cost ratio is invariably going to be even better next week or next month. On the other hand, my 1TB gaming drive is almost full thanks to Steam.

I ended up going with 2x HD103SJ for $49.99 each http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 . Still fast drives, and they dont have the potential issues with raid failing because wd disabled TLER.

I literally just got 2 myself like 2 days ago and put them in RAID0, you will not be disappointed. I get sustained sequential transfers of around 270 MB/sec to/from it and my SSD, and when I first start the transfer the burst speeds are over 400 MB/sec. They are very impressive, they really did live up to the hype.

And seeing as the only thing I am going to be using them for is storage, sequential transfer is really all that matters to me. There are not now and will not be any programs installed on them.

Oh also, if anyone does get the new 64MB cache Caviar Blacks, you won't be disappointed with those either. I just threw one in an external USB 3.0 enclosure to store movies and TV shows on, and it is no slouch either. I get sustained transfers to it of around 135 MB/sec, and burst speed of about 225 MB/sec. I usually just buy green drives for external enclosures, but in this case I'm glad I have a high performance drive in it since I am regularly transferring 100 GB or more.

I have a Crucial M4 64GB for my boot drive. I also picked up 2 Corsair Nova 128GB refurbished drives for like $125 a piece a few weeks ago, got those in RAID0 for my game installs. The new crucial M4 drives are really nice, they are pretty fast, not quite as fast as the newest sandforce drives, but they JUST WORK. They don't have all the crashing, BSOD, etc, etc, problems that plague all the new sandforce drives. I would recommend either a Crucial M4 or the C300 series, or a new Intel 320 or 510 series. Those are all good drives.
