Longest gaming session? Guy dies in UK after 12 hrs of Xbox

I did 24 hours straight the World of Warcraft came out. When I game long hours I at least get up and go to the bathroom or make myself some food.

I remember back in middle school I spent the night at a friend's house. His little brother was playing Final Fantasy 7 when we went to bed. The next morning when we woke up he was asleep sitting in front of the tv with the control in his hand the game still running.

Longest I ever did was about 20 hours for WoW. So glad I don't play that game anymore...

For all of you guys mentioning not going to the bathroom--didn't you own a gameboy back in the day?

I mean, sure, you might not have a single game marathon over the course of XX hours, but if you've gotta get up and take a piss, it's not too hard to keep a handheld within arms length so you never technically stop playing a video game.

Longest I ever did was probably about twelve hours. Multiple occasions with Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, and especially Team Fortress Classic.

These days I can typically only rock out 3-4 hour sessions at the longest. Exceptions being recent playthroughs of KOTOR and the ME games. I could have played those 12 hours straight had I had the time.

I could do 16 hours straight in my sleep if the game is compelling enough. Last one I did this with was Mass Effect 2 I think. Start at 6AM, finish at 2-3AM the next morning, rinse and repeat until game is complete. Just ask my fiancé. :p

I feel bad about the kid though, 20 is too young to die and to have Halo: Reach be the last game you play... ugh... What a tradgedy.

13 hours straight playing Fallout 2 way back in the day. I remember getting it for christmas at Gamestop, not knowing what it was. To this day, I've never been truely pleasantly surprised by any game since. I guess you could say it's what got me started on computers in general.

my longest sessions would be about 14 hours in one sitting, I normally do them like maybe several times a year. I average out to gaming 3-6 hours in a day when I do feel like gaming though.

The trick - at least for me - to doing long gaming runs is to take 1 to 2 minute breaks every hour. I stand-up, stretch, walk around a bit and drink about a 1/2 glass of cold water each time.

He was probably sat cross-legged infront of the TV and didn't drink enough fluids. Anything that contributes to pooling of blood in the deep veins increases the risk of a DVT.

I think I beat him in the first time or two I ever played EQ1... .

This! I think I pulled a couple of <36hr sessions in EQ1 and was always in a totally twitchy, pseudo-hallucinatory state by the time I went to sleep.

24 hours or so in DAoC, getting my Druid and Enchanter up to 50 at fins. This was before SI so... kinda sucked because I always had to pay attention being one of the only pbaoe and having a buffbot at the time. My buddy was also in the group, a nightshade. He didn't do anything but keep the list, although he was good at it :p

While it's sad to see a person die, I can't help but think it was his body's way of telling his brain to stop playing crappy halo already!!! I would probably die too after 12 hours of that stupid mindless game...

I've probably played 24 hours (with food/bathroom breaks) of FFVII... but that was a long time ago and I remember not really liking the game that much... ouch, maybe my body did kill itself and this is the afterlife?

Damn some of you are nuts. I just can't stay up that long. The longest for me was about a 17 hour CS session and then dozed off at the keyboard...when I "woke up" I was still playing the game somehow, I remember specifically I woke up to being a CT on dust1, running to the first door on the right and banking a grenade in. Kinda freaked me out, so I logged out, went to bed, and stayed off the computer for a few days.

12-13 hours on GTA vice city. I bought it Halloween morning, about 11 i think, and played through trick or treat, then a buddy stopped over and we continued through the night untill about sometime in the afternoon.

But used to do 12 hours sessions all the time over a friends house on Day of defeat with no problem..

My longest ever was ~34 hours of Halo at our weekly Wednesday evening "Halo parties" that rolled into the wee hours of Friday morning, minus pizza breaks and a quick trip to the grocery store up the street for more Mountain Dew and Zebra Cakes.

As for WoW, well, I had a few 20+ hour sessions in vanilla. Since the TBC release, I don't think I've had a session longer than 16 hours. Usually about that time is when I decide that I"m quitting again, which lasts for all of about 3 weeks, just in time for me to renew my sub before it expires...

Back in the day I used to play Battle For Eurpoe a sort of meta game designed around various FPS titles, teams would make attacks on a risk style map and then resources permitting you'd basically fight in various FPS servers to attack/defend your positions over a designated 12 hour period.

Me and friends would stay for the full 12 hours on one server, that was with the original Day of Defeat for HL1.

Played for longer at LANs before often going to 15-16 hours before crashing out.

I think when Skyrim comes out I'm going to pull the first 10-12 hour session of my life

I was up for about 36 hours when Wrath went live on WoW. I think the only downtime was when the servers went down on that Sunday for a couple hours, IIRC. That pretty much jacked my sleep schedule until that next wednesday, I remember burning a LOT of PTO that week.

Back in the Ultima/Might & Magic/Wizardry days, I could easily spend 12 or more hours at a time on a game. Now I usually have to stop after a couple of hours.

Have done 24 hour sessions on Everquest when i was 16, leveling was a pain.

I remember starting Morrowind early evening and only to look outside after what feels like a few hours only to find that the sun is up.
I also used to put in crazy hours in Guild Wars.
As for console gaming, I don't think I spend more than a couple of hours playing.
I'm getting old and need to move a lot since I get tired lol

Probably a good 16 hours in DAoC. On weekends I regularly do 8-10 hours at times even these days. But I get up, get a drink, take a leak, etc. Ive probably never gone more than 4-5 hours without getting up.

18 hour eq session with the same group went thru 9 levels that day. thoI've playedEQ 12 years never as much as my first 2 or 3 years.

1/2 a glass of water? So the 1 to 2 minutes are for peeing?

StoneTZ and I used to regularly stay up from Friday night to late Sunday night playing Everquest.....

WotLK release day, I started up a DK and didn't stop until I was max level. I don't remember how long I played, but I do recall that I took two days off of work. I went through several bags of chips and a 12 pack of mountain dew. Used a laptop during bathroom breaks. I fell asleep within minutes of hitting max level... And I still wasn't the first on the server. I am so done with that kind of life.

I've played close to 30 hours of Counterstrike before, and had similar sessions on Starcraft. That was back when those games were new though, and I was much younger.

The longest I've done in years was when Call of Duty 4 came out. I played about 12 hours straight of multiplayer the second night the game was out. That one destroyed me the next day though. Haven't done anything quite like that since. I've played five or six hours of Starcraft 2 here and there, but generally get up and walk around in between games or something. I can't sit that long anymore.

I don't know what my longest gaming session was but I'd have to say it was probably 48+ hours of Diablo II. Even when I've play games for 16 hours or more I've always been smart enough to get up, eat, and use the bathroom when I needed to.

When i was younger I could remember some days not existing from gaming. Now with real life obligations and liking to own nice things I can only do around 5 hours max. Still decent if you ask me.

I think my wife would leave me if i disappeared for an entire day/nite to play games.
