So i have my pwoercolor 1gb 6950 for a week now, if i install CCC then within an HOUR my screen will: freeze, then 20 seconds later black out, then screen comes back and windows 7 says "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". it will do this over, and over, and over, until i uninstall this stupid CCC and restart, then it never happens... i want CCC so no i just cant leave it uninstalled.

What the hells going on here? No gpu fan adjustments, so it shouldnt be overheating...

I just came from a gtx470 reference evga that gave me no problems even though its so hot and whatnot, so why is this supposedly more efficient ati card giving me problems?

did you uninstall your nvidia drivers?Have you run driver sweeper?

there may be some residual nvidia drivers causing some conflict.

I had the same issue with a previous gen card,it turns out the card was defective.

RMA it if driver sweeper/uninstalling nvidia drivers does not work.

Yeah, sorry, should have said i booted into safe mode and used newest vers of driver sweeper to completely get rid of all nvidia drivers.

does RMA mean im going to have to pay for shipping...

is this happening on the desktop? or are u gaming?

Happens to me when I'm gaming, means the card isnt stable or someting is overheating. I usually pump some more volts or speed up the fan.

You have good ventilation for the vid cards rights?

had the same thing to me. Removed the CCC and installed drivrs only, and I use afterburner. No problems since.

Are you watching flash video when it happens? I had this same issue and had to disable 2D acceleration in flash. I have not had any issues since doing that.

Do a clean install of Windows before you bother with RMA'ing to make sure it's not just not an issue of installing CCC after running a GTX 470.

this, my cousin went from nvidia to ati, and i personally did the driver sweeper/clean driver install for him. he complained non stop about blue screens and lock ups and was getting sick of ati.

i told him to do a clean windows install and he has not locked up once since. worth a short, win 7 takes 20 mins to install. RMA will take a lot longer then that

Same exact thing happens with my 5870. Doing this resolved the issue. Stupid though.

With all the problems going from Nvidia to AMD graphics that DriverCleaner/Sweeper/ActOfGod cannot clean up, I'm getting curious and feeling for a deeper investigation.

But who can arrange an article trying to figure out why it is like this? Kyle? Charlie?

My 6970 did this, and the cause of it was that the 2D speeds were too low. I had to create a profile in CCC and up the clocks to 400/600 from the default 250/150. After that, I've had absolutely no instability with the card.

I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue, as I figured out how to bypass it so I never looked into it any further.

It honestly wouldn't surprise if NV did something in their driver system structure that could somehow negatively affect the installation of subsequent ATI drivers. Conspiracy theory? Maybe. Is there a possibility? You bet.

Neigther would I (latent feeling from one install gone badly), however, I have switched between... 9? 10? nVidia and AMD/ATi GPU on my current install, which has kept strong since late 2009/early 2010. Win7 is a beast, to say the least :) Changed platforms, and mobos, a few times already, too.

Sorry for forgetting about this but i reinstalled catalyst, tried the 2d thing in flash (right clicked flash video -> turn off hardware acceleration?), then all that happened was firefox would crash all the time and id still have the whole computer hanging up then screen going black. So i just gave up and uninstalled catalyst.
