Hey guys, I am still on the fence on whether or not I should buy a few new parts for my rig.

So far, my current rig is in my sig, and I have a single Samsung 216BW monitor. I really want to grab 2 monitors for the extra screen real estate, and maybe a third for eyefinity in the future.

The monitors I am looking at are:
LG

The monitor is relatively cheap, has good reviews, and most people mention that ghosting is not a major issue at all.

Uses for the monitor will be:
- Schoolwork(reading PDF, video lectures, word, etc.) and surfing the web: 75%
- Gaming: 25%

Also, I am considering adding an SSD, but still am having trouble getting passed the cost per Gb.

What are y'alls thoughts on the OCZ Agility 3 60 Gb? It'd be my boot drive and maybe store a game or two that I play often.

I am also contemplating adding another 6870 for Crossfire also.

Would a new power supply be needed with these additions, and if not, how much headroom would my PSU have for adding HDDs in the future?

Your current PSU will be fine. It'll have enough headroom for another four drives.

I don't trust OCZ's SSD quality due to their past SSD history.

Really? I was under the impression that OCZ was a top tier brand. Guess Crucial, Mushkin, or Corsair are the best options?

Very cool, I thought it had enough headroom too, just wanted to double check.

Any thoughts on the monitors?

Thanks.

Depends on your budget and if you want 1920x1080 or 1200, TN, IPS, or 120Hz/3D monitor.

IMO, the top tier SSD brand would be Intel and Crucial. Corsair and Mushkin may be ok depending on which of their SSDs you're talking about since many Corsair and Mushkin SSDs use sub-par controllers IMO.

Nope.

$250 for each max, maybe a touch more if the jump in quality was good.

I would like IPS, because I don't game too much and am reading many page PDF files and/or surfing the web a lot.

1080p is fine. It's still a good jump in resolution(15% more I think), and would double the desktop area(2 monitors). 6 bit panels are fine also.

EDIT: Oh, didn't realize that. Guess I should do a bit more research on SSDs. Guess that explains the extra cost associated with Intel and many Crucial products.

Your 216BW is a 1680x1050 monitor, where the E2370V-BF is 1920x1080. For dual monitor use, this is no big deal unless the antisymmetry of if it will bug you. However, looks like the 216BW is glossy, but the E2370V is matte; LG and Samsung will have different panels so they'll have different color reproduction (the Samsung is probably a TN, but could be PVA since Samsung favors *VA flavors, vs the IPS of the LG, things will look different); and it will be impossible to use both of these for Eyefinity because Eyefinity requires 3 identical resolution monitors. Also, one monitor will need a display port connection, neither of which these monitors have.

For more information on monitors check out the monitor sub-forum. They'll [H]elp you out but they're very picky too =) as most there are color enthusiasts.

+1, Intel has been the leader of SSDs for a few years now, and I don't think they're stopping any time soon.

I would definitely stick to either Intel or Crucial for a SSD. I used a Crucial in my HTPC, and the newer Crucial M4's seem to be getting excellent reviews without a lot of reliability complaints like you see on the OCZ drives.

Very cool. 216bw would be sold to my roommate, I owuld have just the 2 LG's.

Intel it is then.

Thanks guys!

Guess I shouldn't let the page sit while I work on things in the office. :D

The Intel and Crucial SSDs are much better than the competition according to what I've read. I can't stomach the price per GB, but if you're going to get an SSD you're probably best off getting a good one.

Also! Don't buy monitors from Newegg. Last I heard they had an 8-pixel (dead/stuck) return policy, which is a bit on the outrageous side.

Might just buy a 1TB WD Black or F3/4 for cheap and hold off until SSDs are a bit cheaper. $200+ for 120gb is too expensive for a college kid.

Thanks for the replies guys!
