Hello fellow Sim racers! I thought we could use a space to talk about our rigs and what we're playing. I'm rather new to sim racing myself. I just built this Obutto / T500RS rig and have really been enjoying it.

I have been playing a fair bit of Shift 2 and I must say it feel amazing! The sense of motion from the eyefinity and all the feedback you get from the T500 is just incredible fun. I want to add a butt kicker but they are sold out as far as I can tell.

Here is me breaking my lap record twice in a row. :D

watch for my break lights, they come on exactly one time...right before I'm about to hit the wall. On this track I can steer the car using the gear box and throttle control alone. Feels good man. :D

Anyway, all of that's great but I'm finding Shift 2 multiplayer to be more or less none existent. I know there are active racing communities like iracer but I'm not quite ready for all that. I'm wondering if any of you are actively racing. Are there any leagues or anything like that? If not does anyone want to race a bit?

So lets see your rigs and hear what you're playin! maybe hook up for some [H]ard|Forum showdowns! :D

Hell of a set up you got there. How much you got into the system, not counting the computer unit?

No pics handy but have a Fanatec PWTS Clubsport setup and a Playseat Evolution. Been on a bit of a break from racing but have Shift2, Dirt3.....rFactor and many of the the SimBin titles. Also have an iRacing account but lacking the time/dedication and skill to compete :D

You have a great setup, I'd love to try the T500, looks like a beast!

If you want to meetup online let me know, I'm not too far along in Shift2 though...15% or something.

I don't have Dirt 3 yet but I've got shift 2 and just picked up Grid, I hear that's pretty good but haven't loaded it up yet.

Tizzrid, the cockpit with mounts was about 600. The wheel and pedals was another 600. Each of the monitors was like 220 I think. Sooo 1900ish give or take not counting the pc that was also, well, considerably high. :D

Should try out Simbin GTR2. It's an older game, but I think it still one of the best racing sim game of all time. Still playing it to this day and with all the mods on the web it still get even better.

 wow! Thanks for the response. It looked like a pricey setup, but I had no idea it was that expensive! Is there any brick and mortar store that you can try a setup like this out before purchasing?

Yeah, I love GTR2 with the Power & Glory mod!

Isn't there a GTR3 coming soonish or am I mixing that up with something else?

Part of the team that made GTR2 split from SimBin and went on to make the Shift titles, they just announced C.A.R.S. which could be epic and the spiritual successor to GTR2

SimBin has used ISI's (rFactor) engine for it's PC titles, so I'm guessing ISI wants to release rFactor2 before it's licenses their new technology. rFactor2 should be out in 2011

I like your setup a lot. Those obuttos are pretty pricey, aren't they? I've been thinking about building a custom one because I don't have the cash to buy a premade one. What is the rest of your equipment (PC specs, monitors, etc)?

Sort of off topic: I don't think your computer should be that close to your right speaker as your speakers look to be just regular bookshelves and more than likely aren't magnetically shielded. Computer + big magnet = not so good.

compared to other setups I think the Obutto hits the best price to quality ratio. It does get up there when you add the extra monitor mounts but the thing is pretty solid. I've seen a lot of amazing custom setups and that's a route I would have explored but apartment living doesn't allow me such luxuries.

As for the speakers, yeah I hear you. I've been dealing with the speaker computer issue forever. I figure the main risk factor are the hard drives and those are all at the front of the case. Anyway, it's changed since that picture was taken but thank you for your concern.

This is the same game right?
GTR 3 release date in 2011

I actually had my eye on GTR but I figured it's so old now I should just hold out for the next one.

You wouldn't be disappointed if you bought any of the SimBin titles or rFactor, but rFactor2 is right around the corner and I'm sure SimBin won't be far behind.

Busted out the cockpit...for the consoles and driving I use a 40" 1080P TV, kinda hrad to make out in the pic.

race07/gtr2/gtr evolution still has new addons coming out for it. racedepartment.com has massive online community for organized racing using these titles and others.

I've played live for speed for years, came close to a couple WR's with the RB4 too. It's showing age these days but the online racing is still fantastic.

I'm currently racing in GT Legends and Power and Glory (mod for GTR2). We have races on thursday in my league, if anyone is interested in joining. here's the race announcement thread for the next race: http://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9428.0
One nice thing about SRou league, your racing history is kept. Here's mine:

Both GTL and GTR2 have hundreds of addon tracks and dozens of addon cars, and new ones a still being made in the community.
I don't have a cockpit, just your regular comfortable chair and single 24 inch monitor. I do use Logitech G25 wheel. Had it for 4 years now, never had any issues, and it's seen a lot of hours of use.

Just found this thread!

Nice setup, OP. I have an obutto also. I'm currently out a gaming video card right now as MSI didn't have any replacement 6970 lightnings so they just gave me a full refund...blah. I've decided to be patient and wait for AMDs 7xxx series and while I'm waiting I'm going to make an eyefinity setup for my obutto. I definitely love my 37" tv right now, but I would like to have the peripheral vision in racing that eyefinity delivers.

Hrm, maybe I'll also try to get a buttkicker in the meantime since I've read they work awesome with the obutto.

Here is a pic of my current rig:

I need a favor if you don't mind, Spiko. What size screens are you running and what is the measured width from one side to the other? I have a space constraint and that might be the deciding factor on which size screens I purchase for my eyefinity setup.

They are 24s and it's about 60 inches from one side to the other. I've actually removed them from the rig. As much as I LOVED them for racing the obutto wasn't cutting it as a desk replacement. Now when I want to drive I have to slide it in front of my 60 inch. I can tell you right now those 3 24s beat one 60 inch any day of the week. I've stooped using cockpit views because I just can't see the track anymore. Still works pretty good with the front bumper view though. It's not ideal but it will have to do for now.

Shift2=POS drift mechanics.
Real sim games that are worthwhile are Iracing or Simbin Race07+expansions.
