Netflix Relief Fund

That was great. The sad thing is some people were acting like Netflix raising their prices was a huge travesty.

Jason looking pretty good, time has treated him well.

As for the video, pretty funny, and the last line pretty much sums it up. No hassle, no frustration.

Don't forget the The Mercer Island Mission Fund from Seattle's Almost Live.

I completely agree with everything you said.

I was never a fan of the actor though, since the only thing I've really seen him in was Seinfeld, and was not a fan of that.

Agreed, I was surprised both on Jason's appearance and the video itself being funnier than I expected.

The whole price issue is admittedly more of an inconvenience than a genuine financial hardship (who actually NEEDS Netflix?) and Jason parodies that well. Still, I think Netflix wouldn't have opened this can of worms if they'd just had a smaller price increase. The most popular plan suddenly goes up in price 60% ... that's just a dumb move. Why not $11.99 for now, to keep everyone's good will, and couple further increases to the amount of available streaming content ?

I also think they'd do well to try breaking up the streaming content in some fashion ... such as packages of TV shows or movies by studio(s) ... if there are say, 3 available packages and you know you won't watch content from 2 of them, you're not wasting money and Netflix would save on licensing fees as well ... something closer to only paying for what you watch/deliver would be more efficient.

That was funny at the begging but really dragged through the middle with the last statement making it worth watching.

Well since your the only one to think this wasn't funny I take it you've been filled with emo-rage over the $6 price increase? lol!

Nope, I don't have a netflix subscription because most movies are crap, so I just use redbox, so I couldn't care less about them raising their prices. This simply wasn't funny because it made light of the tragedy in Japan.

You completely missed the point  but let me explain it to you ...

By comparing the 'outrage' of people to a $6 price increase to the major catastrophes it shows the shallowness and lack of perspective people have to things that actually matter.

Chances are the people that are mocking those that are complaining about the price increase are probably people who do not have a Netflix subscription. It doesn't take a business major to realize the ridiculousness of a 60% price hike. I don't have netflix but I can say that paying $72 more a year all of a sudden is ridiculous.

I have to agree with the post below - Netflix simply could have handled this better - but apparently they missed their marketing and other business courses.

thanks, now hand over your man card lol

It ain't"Sex and the City." I didn't spot horse-faced Sarah Jessica Parker (hard to miss)

Guessing, it looks like one of those "Real Housewives" reality show line-ups on Bravo.

The video is nothing but Hollywood's way of helping Netflix justify
their price increase.

As if actors and studios aren't greedy to start with.

Wrap it in humor, and they laugh all the way to the bank.
Their slimballs.

Its 6 dollars.

6.

And its all optional.

$72 year!?! holy shit, i'll not have to eat out one whole time over the course of the year to cover that.

I think alot of people dont realize how much more the anticipated costs of the new contract negotiations that netflix has to go through with the film studios is. Sony films have already had their movies pulled because their contract has expired and has to be re-negotiated. More film studios contracts will be expiring soon as well, all these studios see $$$$$ in their future since netflix has become so popular. How else is Netflix supposed to cover its increased costs to run as a viable business.

It is my understanding they have about 12 million subscribers, at the anticipated price increase of new contracts, it will take over 40 million subscribers at $6 a piece to make up for the new contract prices. Or its current 12 million an extra $6 over the next 3+ years. And who knows what the actualy new contract prices will be, may be even higher than the anticpitaed amounts. At minimal $1, $2, or $3 price hikes, I do not see how a company can absorb over 250 million dollars of increased expense without passing extra fees on to its subsribers.

It's not? 60% increase in price isn't a travesty?

Good thing they didn't offer their service for $1, because if they increased it to $4 that would be a 300% increase and people's would have even more sand in their vaginas then they do now!

Basically Netflix simple removed bundling of the Streaming and 1 DVD plan, which was an amazing deal so now without a bundle saving the streaming is still a good deal, but it's up to each person to decide if it's worth $8 a month for the 1 dvd at a time plan.

Personally for me it isn't since I never get dvds anymore but if I did it would be well worth it.

Also to those questioning why, was this the first Netflix news you've read this year? I mean there have constantly been stories all over the media about how much more they are having to pay for content now that they are successful then they had to when the studios assumed they would fail.
