Rift: Planes of Telara... looking good! (MMORPG)

Well, cancelled account after 20 days of playing... it's damn boring. The rifts are as funny, as having teeth drilled. The character system is boring... as it takes most fun of MMO - leveling alts. Too little races... RP on EU-RP does not exist, RP rules are not enforced, so we get all those "leet" names on the server, no big RP hubs, like I've Stormwind or Dalaran.

It's just big meh, and I'm terribly disappointed with this game. Another "wannabee wow-killer", ending badly. RIgth now, I'm back to Sha'Tar server :)

On June 22, a new raid raid zone opening event starts. New class balancing, gear, raids, etc.

both of the builds I played during beta got nerfed (reaver/paladin and reaver/riftblade).

My guildies are still playing but I lost interest... game is so full of WoWf4gs

Wow who would have thought a shameless clone would attract people from what it cloned?

Sarcasm aside Rift does do a few things right that WoW does wrong. Like class talent options , WoW has a pretty stale setup while Rift allows you to mix things how quite a bit more.

But in the end Rift is just boring , the "Rifts" are boring and the game lacks content. Maybe down the line..

I"m enjoying the hell outa the world events right now, especially the large scale rift water and death invasions in the highlands. Haters can go back to WoW and stay there, more server bandwith for the rest of us.

Check the HotDeals section for a thread with a link to the CE for $19.99 on Amazon.com if you're on the trial and thinking of buying.

Great price.

Yeah the events are still fun. The world PVP is picking up on my shard, so that has been fun as hell. 5 of us in one group and 2 other solo people wrecked 20 Defiants on a raid rift. Was fun times, pissed them off so bad, they missed the timers and failed to do the daily. We had a running battle for about an hour after that as well.

The turtle mount is worth the CE cost.

On our server it's commonly know as the "Failturtle". ;)

The USB drive, mousepad, and soundtrack have some value too. At $60 off normal price it's a steal if you really want to play.

Yeah I hear it called the failturtle on Deepstrike as well. But really, it's worth getting the digital CE for it. Makes leveling much faster.

Oh fuck yes indeed. I can't imagine trying to catch up with boss fights and rifts with no mount or a really piss slow beginner one and trying to afford it, especially if you die alot.

Oh most definately.

How so? I got my mount at 16 on my first toon levelling and I had the plat for it at like 14. You'll save like less than a few hours max in your leveling time with the turtle. Whats a few hours when it takes 3 days to hit 50?

First time that you enter the game world and there is an invasion going on. The public group you are in all mount up and rush the next rift. You start spacebar bunny hopping like Tigger in a mad dash to try and get there fast. You missed the first 3 stages and barely got any dps in on the boss because the level 50 in the group doing his saga quest is so cool. They get 50 planarite, and goodies; you got 6 planarite and no bonus items.

That's how it happened to me. I know I could have bunny hopped and racial leaped my way around. I wasn't too far behind the group most of the time. But being slow in a MMO where you show off by sporting the latest gear doesn't work for my psyche.

:)

Getting mount at level 6 saves quite a bit of time. Yeah maybe only a handful of hours giving the linearity of quests, but for chasing rifts, emptying of bags, running to AH to auction items for cash, it saves time. More time killing and having fun and less time trying to get there.

You also started with a larger backpack, and it applied to all characters! The CE version was, from day 1, only a few dollars more. I think I got mine, pre-release for $42. (Coupon code + special sale)

Been playing a lot recently, I got bored of my assassin getting completely owned in warfronts so rerolled a pyro mage, seem to be downing people in warfronts much easier now and less of a target as well.

I still play a bit. Not as much as before, but still a few hours a week.
I've always wanted assassin to work in PVP, but it just doesn't unless you're P6 with all the gear. I switched to a markmans/ranger/inf build and it works well enough. I just get torn up to quickly and easily if I'm in melee range - I'm only at P3.

If you get level 50 in three days, you really do need to get a life  I'm only level 40 since playing in May and thats even with several weekends of 4-5 hour stints.

Of course, these are the same people that bitch that current MMO"s are too short/have no content/grinding sucks/ a clone of WoW ect..ect....

I don't play rift as much nowadays - but I still do go on from time to time. The game got pretty boring for me. =(

My character name is " Soleil " and I'm on Molinar server. ( guardian side ) so come and say hi to me if any one of you ever catch me online! =D

This game got boring really quickly for me, it started out so well and crashed and burned in teh flames!

I quit a couple months ago due to in-game issues that needing fixing that weren't being fixed. Addons, pyros, etc. I hit rank 6 prestige and ran all the expert dungeons multiple times. I got the most out of it I could at the time, and still don't regret my purchase as I had a ton of fun.

just got done with the trial and the first thing that stood out was how populated my server was. I thought the game would be in kind of lull right now in the summer but Rift seems to be doing well population wise (at least on my server).

still couldn't believe how crowded both the Deviant and Guardian cities were.

probably going to get a digital version of the game since it comes with a month of play time.

Its obviously very similar to WoW, but that's not a bad thing because the world and graphics are so much different.

Wonder how many of the 1 mil lost sub wow players are in Rift now? must be alot

An oldie but a goodie...

I'm still subbed to Rift from my initial subscription package, 1.4 patch supposedly added some nice open-world PVP stuff, and between that and 1.3 there's a bunch of new content such as 10-man raid slivers, a big new 20-man, more prestige ranks, open-world pvp rifts, etc. etc. I'm actually re-installing it now to try for a few days (I have 2 months left on my sub). I loved the game but it was seriously lacking in the PVP department for me, plus I had done basically all of the PVE content to death. Hopefully with a little time to mature the game will turn into a beast :D... I hear a lot of happy people on the official forums offhand. Maybe 1.5 or whatever the next patch is will flesh PVP out even further if I'm lucky...

If anyone is looking into Rift, I'd love it if you could use my recruitment link to sign up (it gives me a pet/mount/etc. depending on how many, up to 3, buy)... :D . The link is: http://www.riftgame.com/en/products...&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ascend_invite

The new PVP rifts are fun. Leads to some fun battles and nice "Favor" for gear upgrades. That and they revamped the PVP gear buying, so you can progress gear wise instead of hoarding Favor until R5/6.

Question: Do people tend to pop these in the evening? When they do, are people participating in them on normal pve servers, or is it really moreso on PVP ones that there is any action at them? I patched up and logged in, got a couple of random people to fight me by manually flagging since no PVP rifts were up (I died miserably since I hadn't even fought a mob since trying again haha), then went into a warzone instance for a few to practice up. I could be happy with a mix of instanced and open-world PVP...

No clue on pve servers. On pvp servers, they were getting popped by both factions all night on Saturday, so got a chance to defend and attack. And there was awesome open world pvp in the daily quest zone and at the rifts.

Hm.... may make an alt on a PVP server for funsies, and see what's what :). I saw they did some server mergers a few ago... have populations stabilized at this point well enough? The game had ungodly high amounts of people on when I logged into Wolfsbane in the early afternoon on Tuesday... so I'm guessing yes, but just curious.

EDIT: Hm, in fact since it looks like you can transfer a toon once a week, maybe I'll finish my Rogue off to 50, give him the gear I had gotten for him that was BOE, and see if I like the PVP server action... if so then x-fer my Mage :). That's a nifty little feature...

My interest is slowly dwindling. I think the entire genre is losing my interest due to the demands of my adult llife. I just don't have the time to sink into an mmo anymore.

I feel the same way to an extent, also since there seems to be so little new to the genre since daoc imo. I love rvr type pvp but 10 hours of raiding plus 30 farming and 20 pvping just does not work for me nowadays.

I think of all the Post-WoW Fantasy MMOs, Rift is by far the best. It includes a lot of content done RIGHT, and brings some of the Warhammer Online/Dark Age of Camelot dynamic play into the world that really most others haven't gotten right. (WAR itself for instance - fabulous characters/classes, excellent teamwork, but the game structure itself fell apart for a number of reasons).

Though I haven't had as much time as I'd like to play ANY MMO lately, I still keep my Rift account open. They're adding lots of new content patches, and I really appreciate their jab at Blizzard/Activision by allowing users unlimited FREE server transfers at a rate of once a week per character, something that costs $20+ in WoW. Now that I'm back and able to play MMOs more readily, I'm going to be starting over in Rift.

If anyone would care to join me, http://www.riftgame.com/en/products...&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ascend_invite - is my referral link. I tend to play on Roleplay servers, so if that's not your cup of tea, no worries, but I'd welcome anyone who wanted to group.

I also have a Steam copy of the FULL Rift Digital Collector's Edition (including gametime - the $30 Upgrade does not include any gametime) that I'd be willing to sell to someone getting into the game.

I agree with you that Rift is very good. It's easily a challenger for WoW.

RIFT is a dying game and the only reason they offer free transfers is a desperate move to keep their dwindling playerbase.

They jumped the gun and opened WAY too many servers and when 3/4 the population quit after the first month many servers where literally ghost towns. I know the one i was on was practically deserted, the guild i was in went from 30-40 on at any given time to just me.

I have played nearly all the wow killers early in their release and i have never seen one die as fast as RIFT. Started off SO promising then everyone got bored and moved on.

Right now RIFT is not even a challenger to EQ. This game is dead.

I enjoyed WoW till the Sunwell came out. I have been enjoying Rift as well, but I just have not had as much time to play as I did before I got married. I honestly would like more depth in the game, for example, I really loved EQ1 just because there was always something to do. Like grind AA or such, wish it wasnt just grinding for gear once you hit 50 is all.

It was recently stated by Trion (was it Hartsman?) that they game is still seeing an uptrend in subscriptions. The game is far from dead.

To be fair , what else would they say? "Yea the game is dieing far more rapidly than we thought".

The problem with Rift is that if the population isn't strong the games out door mechanics just don't work out. You can't have a low population and expect to take on all the Rifts , the Rift mechanic doesn't function well without a healthy population to exterminate them as they are spawned. I would sometimes have to wait a few hours before a large group showed up to deal with a Rift that had despawned the NPCs I needed to complete some quests.

That annoyed the shit out of me.
