Classic games that could be AWESOME remakes

Stratosphere
Planescape: Torment
Unreal Tournament and UT 2k4
Warcraft 1-3, Starcraft, and Diablo 1 and 2

They *did* sell well...
They sold well, but not like Half-Life or Starcraft sold well. They were popular, but they weren't mainstream.

And I think that's about the best-case scenario for a follow-up; no matter how well-made and well-received they are, it's still a niche market.

I would really like to see a remade Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment

Mage Slayer
Descent
Bard's Tale, a proper remake, not that crappy crap that happened a few years back!

The best nes remake I've ever seen was A boy and his blob for the wii.

For purely nostalgic reasons i'd love to see a Milon's Secret Castle remake

Some of my favorite NES games, like Balloon Fight and Mario Bros (not Super) that were intended to be co-op were much more fun in "deathmatch mode". I imagine they are forever destined to nostalgia land.

(yes I know about the remake of the Mario Bros in SMB3, I just wasn't impressed)

I really think if you're going to remake a game and want to make the hardcore nostalgia fans happy you're going to have to throw in a "classic mode" where the rules/mechanics and optional graphics are identical to the original. although now that I'm thinking about it, it would be fun to have to have options for the others as well.

didn't scan the thread, but Crusader No Remorse and Crusader No Regret were awesome, and would be awesome to revive.

A very very underrated gem of a game, Rocket Jockey.

(only works in 240p)

That game was such a blast back in the day, it'd be RIPE for a great XBLA/steam release with updated graphics, online multiplayer, etc.

Also REALLY would love to see a new Road Rash game, I wish EA would make a new one.

I'm 100% convinced that the first developer to do a modern Mechwarrior/Battletech/Giant Death Robot game *right*, and takes full advantage of the power of modern PCs to produce an intense and action packed sim with tons of customization, location specific damage, destructible buildings and environments, etc, will have a hit on their hands on par with Half-Life or Starcraft with the modern PC gaming crowd

in other words: NO FUCKING CONSOLE PORT

in either direction

What I wouldn't give for new, not sucking, Xwing Tie Fighter or Mechwarrior game.

Edit:

Ok I got nostalgic

I remember playing these so much in high school. God damn I got old.

On a side note, Betrayal at Krondor too.

Riven: The Sequel to Myst

A good remake in real-time 3D would be amazing. It's still my favorite game in the series.

Metal Gear 1/2 in the MGS4 engine, full voices, cutscenes, the works. :D

Surely you dont mean MGS, correct? You mean the original NES Metal Gear? I hope?

Suggesting that MGS be re-made is like stating the Mona Lisa needs a mohawk. To this day I consider it the greatest video game of all time.

Crusader: No Remorse
Crusader: No Regret

...as first person shooters with multiplayer capabilities. I would love to see the game using a moderin graphics engine. Even more so, a cooperative battle between the resistance and the WEC. Us vs. a smart computer AI. :D
