Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

Just sold my i7 workstation and bought myself a T420 with the Optimus GPU setup + the dock so i´m running all screens on the T420. Those are 3*22" BenQ G2222HDL, LED backlight, 1080p. New setup for a new house..

What a setup!

What kind of desk is that?

I love 3-panel/boomerang/B-wing type desks... but in a large room I prefer boxing off a corner more or less with them, so I'm facing outward with the corner walls behind me. Thats how I have my 3-panel/chamfered corner desk now.

At one point a long time ago I had two large L-desks that I made a T off a wall with, so that one of each desks sides was up against the other, and the base of the T's was on the wall. (One for me, one for gf at the time).

Thats just my preference. It keeps the monitor faces from being blasted with direct room lighting, and keeps my monitor from being viewed by or distracting anyone in the room as well as keeping me from rubbernecking or spinning my chair to look behind me. I guess I always prefer back facing a wall anyway, even outside of computing. The side panels of the desk are large enough that I can slide my chair over to either side and not have my wall of monitors blocking my view from time to time as well, to do paperwork, reference a book, or eat a snack, etc. Also lots of peripheral room for g13, graphics tablet, netbook/tablet, laptop, etc.

So I do like that setup though hemmiandra. ;)

What image is that on your desktop? A worldclock/timezone screensaver? I'd like to know where you got it if it is.

I really would like to do my desks this way, but it is so f'ing hard to hide wires it just looks retarded. That why I always have to push my desk up against a wall.

The wallpapers are Lenovo computer defaults.

You can find similar ones here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lenovophotolibrary/sets/72157612297163774/ , but I don't see the one with the blue/greenish gradient.

The blue/greenish gradient is just color distortion from the flash and different viewing angles per monitor.

Here´s the link to the exact wallpaper : http://bbs.ouc.edu.cn/UploadFile/2011-5/201152921142150830.jpg

They dont ship the laptops any more with those world wallpapers anymore, sadly.

Anyways, thanks for the kind words. Will be posting a new picture when I update the monitors, soonish I hope.

Those monitors are Asus VW246H x2 (on the ends) and a Samsung SyncMaster B2430. I wanted three identical monitors, but i was being impatient so i bought the Samsung locally. The actual screen sizes are all the same dimensions though, so it works out.

I've been contemplating buy/try-ing a pair of those Behringer Truth monitors. If for no other reason then to see if I like ribbon tweeters. It sounds like you've had them about a year. Any problems? Would you buy them again?

First time Eyefinity user. Sold my Dell 30" for 3 Dell U2410 plus an Ergo Tech 100-D16-B03 stand. Amazing difference IMO. 3 24"s>1 30"

I've been playing with six monitors for about 6 years now. I like having that many monitors because it allows me to multitask. What I never liked was how I had to settle for an odd shaped desktop *OR* a relatively small main monitor and overly large secondaries. I recently decided to see if I could have the best of both worlds, and here is what I set up:

The layout is a 30" LCD in the middle, 2x20" monitors on the wings, and 3x20" widescreens above.

It's not perfect - the dot pitch aren't quite the same on all monitors, but the distortion is minimal. I'm still trying to get the colours to match. By far the biggest problem is that Eyefinity doesn't like monitors of different resolutions in gaming.

This setup is temporary because Eyefinity means I can explore using more monitors without breaking the bank. I'm thinking of incorporating a seventh monitor I have nearby:

It is a 46" LCD TV capable of 1920x1080. I would have to remove the HD4650 and replace it with a triple-head card to do this, as my motherboard has only 2 PCI-E x16 slots. I'm using a Q9550, so my next CPU/motherboard upgrade may very well have 3 or more x16 slots which is why I haven't rushed out to get a triple-head card. Furthermore, it might make more sense to buy a second HD6950 and go CrossFire.

My ex claims I'm compensating...

Niche setup! Are the monitors on the top mounted to the wall?

Nope - I have an Ergotron vertical monitor mount for the left monitors, an Atdec vertical monitor mount for the middle monitors, and a Moview quad mount for the right monitors. I'm using the quad for only 2 monitors because the maximum size of monitors I can mount on it are 22" widescreens. The nice thing about the Moview mount is that the monitors do not have to be vertically aligned - the Atdec requires that, the Egrotron does allow lateral adjustments but at the cost of making the monitors different depths (unless I can rig up some sort of spacer). I would like to get another vertical monitor stand so I can use the quad stand on my server (I have 3x22"widescreen and a 23"widecreen LCD for it), but I'm been considering an absolutely crazy idea - put the 46" LCD on the lower row, the 30" and 2x20" above, and the 3x20"W above *THAT* to make a triple-high display. I have one very big problem with this plan: the displays would extend thru the ceiling by about 20cm. I could mount it lower but then I'd have sit on the floor to use the computer

There is a reason she is the ex...

Oh yeah - she was full of comments like that. I bought a microwave oven and her comment was "Wonderful - something *ELSE* in the house that heats up instantly and goes DING! in 30 seconds.."

She's an MCSE and knows computers herself. She uses a dual-display setup, so when she started getting into website design I said I'd give her 24" (LCD). She said I was lying, because "You can't get it up 12 times in a row"

Wow, sounds like a man hater, thanks for the info on your screen setup.

rtangwai I have a 19"(900x1440) - 27" (2560x1440) - 19" (900x1440) PLP setup now, but next year I'm considering adding a row of three 27" 120hz 1080p lcds, or two more 27" 60hz 2560x1440's depending on what I think of 120hz performance during the return period.
..
.. Have you ever consdered building your own desk like I am considering? If you make a slope downward on the back(far side) half of the desk to an lcd mount/sunken-shelf area, you could have a row of lcd's partway/halfway or more beneath the surface of your main desk, angled up as necessary. That way you wouldn't have to stack monitors up high and angle your chair or neck upward so much. I was thinking the eyfinity gaming lcd's on the top layer, and the PLP array directly below, halfway beneath the main desk surface.
..
...I've always liked the idea of a second row of lcd's and I like where your setup is going.. but I don't want them that far above.

edit: always liked nicole k. lol smokin'

I ab-so-lutely love these monitors - I wouldn't trade em' for the world. No problems at all; I rearranged my room a bit to allow for a cleaner set up. I was thinking about purchasing the speaker isolation platforms being sold on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Auralex-SpeakerDude-Speaker-Isolation-Platforms/dp/B00266HBSU/ref=pd_cp_MI_2), i noticed however that the platforms are a bit smaller width wise compared to the speakers width. Shouldn't really matter i suppose, and i don't hear anything rattling, vibrating or anything that would force me to purchase the pads to alleviate any flaws for not having them - but maybe in the near future.

Superb quality, they're running through an asus xonar essence ST sound card, latest drivers and these RCA cables http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001MHZM8

I haven't really been tempted to purchase a sub either, for these create a dynamic bass boost all around. Of course if you want an extra punch you can buy a behringer woofer to go along w/ the speakers, and i believe they released a new line of subs since i last purchased these monitors. Cheers

A lot depends on the technology of the monitor. If it's a cheap TN panel then angling is always a bitch for viewing. I hope to angle the upper monitors slightly downward to help the viewing angle. I'm not that concern on the height of the upper monitors as they are mostly for work I don't have to watch constantly, such as code compiling or virtual machines testing software installs.

I so far am finding this layout working quite nicely - it is actually slightly narrower than a 6x22"W (1920x1080) setup I previously had, which is an advantage in that I don't have to exercise my peripheral vision so much, yet the primary monitor has nearly twice the number of pixels over the 22".

A suggestion from a fellow multimonitor enthusiast is to use 3x30" 2560x1600 across the bottom and 4x22" 1920x1080 across the top. The pixel width would line up perfectly, but as always dot pitch becomes a challenge. I stuck two pieces of cardboard on my setup to approximate the extra width switching from 20" to 30" and concluded that while possible and intriguing, my neck will get pretty sore from all the swiveling, quite apart from the cost of adding 2x30" LCDs.

I swear though that sometimes I think the primary goal of my rig is to gauge the shock and awe it inspires in people who see it for the first time. According to my latest survey stats, "HOLY SHIT!!!" is the most common initial reaction, with "OH MY GOD!!!" in second followed closely in third by "WHAT THE FUCK?!?!" :D

Not weird, just vicious.

Bitches aren't worth your time; real women are. My wife is not at all a gamer except for Sims but she doesn't attack me for having a hobby at all with pseudo-psychology. If anything she finds it cute/amusing. Heck I even got her liking some of Star Trek TNG. :)

I'm just amused on how people can afford all this stuff! :O

For most people like myself is just working for it. I know that everyone is feeling doom and gloom over the current state of the economy but there's still opportunities out there to have a decent life materially without having to kill for it.

Exactly. Having a good eye for good second hand deals is all it takes.
