A Homeland Security official admitted under questioning by the House Oversight Committee that the government was aware that instances of imported components contained pre-installed malware and spyware. Watch the video around the 51 minute mark….reminds me of a dodge ball game.

Schaffer admitted he is aware of instances when foreign-made technology was built with embedded security risks but did not elaborate on what kind of equipment DHS has encountered

I thought the dude was going to have a damn heart attack over the question. Grab some ball MF and say yes. We buy our stuff from a potential enemy and I can't blame them for implanting this shit, to screw with us.

I remembered one time I bought something, plugged it in and it wanted to install something.

Can't remember what it was tho, but it wasn't anything to do with the device.

Needless to say, ACCESS WAS DENIED!

Mr. Chaffetz says to Mr. Schafer, "Are those the two droids we are looking for?", Schafer replies, "to my knowledge those are not the droids you are looking for";

Chaffetz: Dude, i have a picture of them on my holo-watch thing, they look like the droids i'm after
Schafer: wait, what? i'm sorry i forgot the question
Chaffetz: Gimme a fucking answer and stop pussy footing here.

Not to mention, lost jobs, lower quality and, overall loss to our economy but hey, at least we got cheap goods!

what? you mean capitalism, the very heart and soul of the United States, is bad? oh, the cheap goods are communism, i got it.

USA has more unions than Russia does... food for thought.

Not really. Just means we actually care about worker's rights. The idea of unions is slowly growing in China but it'll be a long time before it takes hold with any ferocity. Communism has not shown any desire to help people survive beyond the minimums required so the goods have to be cheap so people can buy them. Though we've had a fair share of really corrupt examples to go with...

I don't think ive got any US made components...their all taiwanese/japanese/puerto rican goodness. :D

Yes... we're aware of malware in these things, but we're focusing on more important things. Things like helping the RIAA! the MPAA, and everything in between!

Pfff, they only care about the worker's right to pay union dues. My dad was union for 40 years...and what they did best was take their union dues. They screwed the workers over left and right. Every new contract meant a new screwing, every strike meant unrecoverable lost wages. It's as if unions brainwash workers...they think it's all wonderful until you point out the facts on how bad they've been cheated over the years, and even then they'll argue with you about how great unions are. Seniority over ability, can't fire the dead weight (something he constantly complained about), how can you beat that? When 40 years have passed and after cost of living adjustments you find out that you're making less than when you started...Oh yeah, it's a wonderful life. I was starting out making as much at non union jobs (and I didn' thave to pays dues), and ability was promoted over seniority, and the dead weight was cut. The age for which unions were created has passed, and now they're as greedy and abusive as the industries they were created to protect workers from.

I couldn't have said this better myself.

Unions are done, thier time is up, and I have no problem being a scab cause those fuckers think they aren't getting a fair share. :D

And for the record, I have been a scab many of times. I love taking away from unions.:p

when i had my first daughter i took a job at a factory to pay the bills 30 days pass and they said i had to join the teamsters. wound up that my union rep didn't give a shit about my infractions for being Buddhist at the time and said it wasn't a legit reason to miss a mandatory Saturday workday, even though that's the only time i could make it up to the community center. or when i wound up with ganglion cysts on both wrists from sorting mundane parts, they said it was from something not work related.
when they put me in the center of the factory to make a scarlet worker of me and threatened my job because rumors that i had planned to sue about my cysts, was told "unofficially" by the production manager that a bad apple spoils the bunch and that i was to be fired, when they walked me out, i thanked them graciously for the enlightening experience and that i was happy to be leaving on such terms.

less than one month later, Mitch Hedberg died.

the union did fuck all to protect and serve me. sure didn't stop them from taking that bit of money each month though.

And unions say they look out for the workers.

That is be far the one of the most disgusting things I heard. I'm glad your outa there.

I can't say that I haven't had my run in's with unions. When I was working for a independent networking company, we had got a contract to rerun all the wiring closets, and server rooms for this law firm, it was about mid afternoon when we ran into the electrical union downstairs, and boy did they throw a hissy fit that we were running all the low voltage cables. By the end of the day, the damn union there threatened the law firm to go on strike unless they got to run the low voltage cabling, we ended up losing the contract, and 3 months later we found out that the electrical union had run all the wiring closets with cat3. Unfortunately we didn't get the contract to fix the wiring closets after the union had fucked up.

Ofcourse they are aware of it. Government requirements force these manufacturers to put hardware/software onto your devices so they can spy on you as a condition of selling in the U.S. No spy tech, no access to the U.S. market.

Capitalism combined with globalization is bad. Personally I think globalization is bad all by itself, and it's just amplifies the bad qualities of everything it's associated with.

Who's capitalism? Or, are you saying that as long as some corporation in the U.S. makes a buck reselling, it's all good?
