Would depend on what the company is doing. I'm sort of a black sheep because i'm the logical one. Many of my friends are die hard religious nuts. They're all technically christians, but they have some very strong animosity towards each other churches (i.e. a friend of mine was screaming at his girlfriend because she went to a catholic church instead of his).

And unfortunately, they really do let their churches sway their decisions. One 'god fearing' company refuses to hire non-christians. Another hires muslims but then pressures them into converting to the christian church they support (Wish i had a recorder when i was a guest in one of the churches).

And the worst part is that they don't at all see the hypocrisy in what they're doing to each other. They're still good friends of mine, but i make it a point to stay away from religious topics when around them. They've tried 'converting' me quite a few times already. I am now weary whenever they try inviting me to yet another 'job seminar' because every f*cking time it turns out to be 9/10th of the time is spent listening to some preacher talking about the bible rather than actual work topics.

Yet going by the definition of faith entirely correct. Christianity and other religions tend to view faith, or a belief in something despite having no evidence for it as something that is desirable and virtuous to possess.

Faith is essentially the exact opposite of reason. Sorry that he didn't put religion on a high enough pedestal for you. Moving along...

Companies are able to discriminate in virtually every way, which pleases me not one bit, because once you give people enough power they tend to abuse it in manifold ways.

What says that people with poor credit aren't desirable to hire? Given my current credit rating my company probably wouldn't have hired me, this despite the fact that I'm a top performer there and I have had a veteran accountant call me responsible. Tons of people have to take out debt to get by when they're out of work or even while they're working (if like many they have jobs that don't pay much) and that no more makes them irresponsible than someone who stops working for a time due to injury or illness.

Which BTW is another thing they tend to use against people, even if it was a one-off thing that isn't likely to impact them much in the future. Almost worse than even this though is how people who committed crimes when they were teens are so quickly dismissed by the majority of companies out there. Most of what you do when you're 16 I think you would agree has little bearing on who you wind up being when you're 26, but companies act as if this is the case all of the time, even in industries where their crimes would have little relevance or risk.
 
Just wanted to add that sometimes, all that's needed for a person with a poor credit ratings to get better financially, is a steady job. So good judgement and evaluating the specific circumstances of every applicant instead of automatic dismissal is very important.
 
I don't understand, don't people make their facebook totally private? Or is there something I'm missing; a way for companies like these to still see the data.

A lot of people don't make their profiles private, but even for those who do, there are a lot of ways for companies like this to get data.

1.) Likes.

Whenever you like something on facebook, whatever person/company who owns th ething you liked gets instant access to all your data.

2.) Applications:

Have you ever taken a quiz, or played a game on facebook? Those apps usually require you to accept an agreement in order to get started which allows the author of the app/game/quiz/whatever access to your private information. Many of these crappy apps that float around are nothing but clever ruses for information gathering companies to get at your private information so they can sell it to others for either marketing or more nefarious purposes like this,

Here's the kicker. even if you don't use these apps//games/quizzes/whatever yourself, many of them will share your information with the author if any one of your friends uses them. This can be disabled, but its buried in the security menu and most people don't think to change it.

My guess is this company collects the data by creating pointelss quizzes that people take. The chance that you might have taken the quiz yourself may be relatively small, but look at your friends list. What is the chance that one of those 144 bozo's may have taken it? Your info is now compromised.

These are only the ways I know of, but there are probably plenty more ways to get your personal data out of facebook. I still use it, because unfortunately it is more or less a social requirement today. I try to post limited amounts of personal data, and to protect my privacy, I have completely disabled the applications platform on my profile (to my Wife's dismay, as this means the mobile Scrabble app we used to play against each other on our phones no longer works)

Facebook may market themselves as a "social media" company, but what they really are are a "personal data acquisition and sale" company. They are absolute experts in thinking of clever ways to make you think your data is secure, while completely raping it out to the highest bidder.
