Lian Li V1020 Case Mod(No name yet)

Well I think I got my hardware back up and running, I just have to reinstall windows 7 and try the same process in windows 7.

So my current plans.
Touch up paint
Reassemble case
finish drafting faceplate
get pc up and running-play games, lots of games
start planning water cooling

AutoSave_faceplate.jpg

And heres what I have for a face plate as of now, I took a Cad class in high school, now I wish I had access to it, much easier.

Just a small update, I have gotten my hardware back up and running, and I was given a quote of $100 a piece for the bay faceplate and psu cover. So thats out of the question, but If I do it out of acrylic I can get it down to $55 a piece, which is much more doable, so Im back in the emailing process. I wonder if i can make black acrylic glow.

Oh how I love you removable motherboard tray, your a normal case and test bench all in one.

Case with my current hardware in it,(I have a hard time taking pictures with this type of lighting.)

Well hopefully in the next two weeks I will be able to have my bay panel cut out, oh yeah forgot to mention, I've decided to use white acrylic(I hint to towards my next build, a scratch build) for the bay cover and ive gotten a great deal for the laser cutting for it, i've just to busy with work and working an edition 2 1/2 shifts so I can continue to work on this mod.

Update time, just a small one, Ive been looking for suitable fan controllers, more or less ones that I liked that were reasonably priced, I didnt want to spend more than 30 dollars, especially since I have one I really like, well I got bored and took it apart, only to realize it was still what I needed, I just had to replace the red leds with orange and bam done, although I should have taken a picture of it first. Well here you guys go.

P6051400.jpg

Stripped down to parts.

P6051403.jpg

The stock red lights.

P6051405.jpg

One led down 4 to go.

P6051408.jpg

The light diffuser back on.

P6051412.jpg

The finished product, sorry for the blurry pictures, my tripod is packed up.
Now I just have to measure the light diffuser and change my faceplate to include this fan controller, and fabricate a mount for the pcb because im not going to use its case.

Just a small update. Since money is a bit tight at the moment all the major stuff is just not doable at the moment, but that doesnt mean I cant knock some other stuff out of the way first.

Here is the 75% completed HDD holder, as i decided I only need one HDD because I want to finally take the leap with SSD.

P6081419.jpg

First piece rough cut.

P6081422.jpg

Both pieces cut and filed(just some high grit sanding is left to remove the file marks.)

P6081425.jpg

P6081427.jpg

Brackets installed, now I just have to drill the mounting holes for the case and do the required sanding.

Small update, Ive started on the other portion of the fan controller mod and part of another portion of the case. Ive been tossing the fan controller idea around since I got it 3 years ago, and well here it is 40% done(I have sanding and polishing to).

P6101428.jpg

I know they need to be cleaned up, mostly .30-06 and .41, I got them from an older buddy of mine, with a decent little gun collection, but most notable, the fully auto uzi, with the butt plate attachment, and not some recent remake, this thing was like 30 years old. Anyway.

P6111432.jpg

2 down, 2 to go, I didnt realize how hard these little bastards were to cut. Im going to finish the other two tomorrow and then start working on the other part of this project that involves these guys.

Ok here is just a mock up of the idea Im trying to work out, right now the led is sitting where the primer normally is, but I want to put the led where the actual bullet sits and encase it in JB Weld and shape it to look like a bullet. I just wanted to show you guys what I had in mind. Sorry for the shitty pictures, I really need to start setting aside money for a better back drop and light setup, unless anybody has a easy to do cheap setup they would like to show me.

P6111442.jpg

Ill probably do all of these in white leds.

Small update:
4 shells cut, not just some filing to even them out(trying to find a good method to do that) and I have to to come up with a way to actually mount them, Im thinking small washers and JB weld and then center drill until its ready to be fully glued to the dial.

P6131486.jpg

(Hopefully you find the quality of the pictures better, Ive made a light tent and im fine tuning it.)

Well the washer Idea was bust, and the guy who is going to do my laser cutting is getting ready to go on vacation so thats on hold till the start of next month, but the guy who gave me the shells also game me a 10"x48" sheet of 1/16 inch aluminum so im messing around with hand fabricating the faceplate, its going ok, one of the holes is not quite perfect but its really hard to notice once the shells are set in place, well anyways here you go.

P6141562.jpg

I have to fabricate a plate to hold the fan controller PCB.

P6141569.jpg

Right now the shells are being held in with modelling clay my roomate had floating around, so im going to have to figure something out.

Next I have to drill out 3 holes for the vandal switches, and I have to cut out 2 squares for the temperature displays, I just dont have the money for that right now, im going to finish the plate and paint it and see if I want to keep, although I doubt I will its more of a test run.

All of this is being done with a hacksaw, coping saw, and bastard files, its time consuming lol, well its time to grab some sleep.

Well I got the face plate cut out and most of it filed were need be. In my exhausted stupor, I thought it would be easier to just use the step bit i had attached to my drill, mistake, so right now im trying to fill the 2 spots(yes not once but twice) where I messed up with a 2 part epoxy, if that doesnt work Im going to buy some JB Weld(Yeah I know its another 2 part epoxy, I just think it will work better), but Im almost positive the XSPC temperature displays im going to buy have a border around the screen that will cover my mistake anyways.

Next up measuring and drilling the mounting holes, sanding, and drinking a few beers. I cant paint until I have the necessary parts, as I still might have some filing to do. If all else fails, I still have plenty of this aluminum and I can always remake it but Id rather not.
Now when I have some the finances Im going to order the vandal switches and XSPC displays.

More stuff to come the is tomorrow.

That fan controller mod is fucking awesome! Nice work!

Thanks buddy, I have the faceplate for it pretty much finished, but this on is only a mock up panel until the guy who is going to do my laser work comes back from vacation.

Looks awesome dude! I have the same case though it's completely stock. I have no plans to mod mine but I'm going to keep an eye on your worklog because I'm really curious to see how yours comes out.

Thanks man, I still have a lot left to do, right now im playing with idea of a stealth switch to switch between orange and white leds on the side panel, and im trying to plan the water cooling portion.

Sorry for the lack of an update, Ive been trying to work on the case but some things didnt come out as well as I wanted and other things im still trying to finalize. With the fan controller, I finally have the new dials mounted, I just have to polish them and wax them or something so the brass doesnt oxidize. The faceplate for the most part is about 75 percent done, but I really want to got with white acrylic so this is just in case the guy doing my laser cutting cant get what i want done.

But anyways here is a prototype led bullet for and another section of the case, I used .45 caliber with 10mm ultra bright white led, one of these leds cost me $4, I need minimum of 8 so thank fully I was able to come up with a different, cheaper plan, Im going to use 6mm cartridges with 5mm leds because the diameter of a 5mm led at the bottom lip is as you guessed 6mm. I have 6 of the shells sitting here I need to call a buddy and see if hes got about 10 floating around for me.
