Three Foxconn workers convicted of leaking iPad 2 specs have been sentenced to 18 months in prison. After working for Foxconn, I'm sure a year and a half in prison will seem like vacation...only, without the suicide nets.

A trio of Chinese workers from the Foxconn manufacturing facility that produces Apple's iPad 2 tablets will pay fines of up to $23,000 and spend up to 18 months in prison for leaking information regarding the device 6 months before its debut. The employees were charged with leaking Apple trade secrets, and convicted in China yesterday.

Sending people to prison for leaking some corporate info? Damn, China's going to be as bad as the U.S. someday.

:p

I'm surprised that Jobs didn't insist that they be executed.

Good! Apple nearly went bankrupt as a result of all this and now ipad 2's just sit on the shelf because no less then 14 other companies came out with tablets that were better in every single way imaginable all because of these terrorists. All of this information is true and questioning it means you support terrorist.

Seriously? Hope this was a joke.

haha nice. i thought that china didnt protect intellectual property, as in no copyright laws?

Now you go farm gold in WOW! Then go make iPad3! Then kill self!!!
Brief synopsis of life in china!

This just means that some Communist official has his hands in some money from Foxconn/Apple.

lol... whats funny is that some people didnt see the sarcasm in this..

Lord General of the Western World Steve Jobs has now extended his mighty hand into the Chinese Government's pocket and given them enough iMoney to consider these three extremely poor and overworked men dangerous enough to sentence to 18 months in prison. Seriously... WTF? $23000 in fines a piece? These people will never be able to pay that off.

Sure they can pay that off. They just need to sell a few iPads on the side to supplement their income. Or maybe Jobs will take half off if they give him a new kidney.

How is this even a criminal case? Wouldn't this be a civil issue at worst?

Seems pretty harsh when you consider murderers here in the US get that much time in prison these days.

Wow. 18 months is a little long.. their fault for leaking trade secret though! My 2 cents.

$23,000 fine (if in USD) will take these workers at least 10 years to pay off.

I spent one day in an American jail. 18 months in a Chinese prison... I'd rather just kill myself. That's ludicrous for telling some people some specs of an electronic device. Not that I'm an apple hater, but if it ever came to light that apple had some sort of influence behind this ruling I'd probably devote a good amount of my time to discouraging apple and their products.

it doesn't matter if it was Apple! Any company that had info leaked would end up with the same problem. And people would go to jail. To many kiddies here. This is how the world works kids.

I think Steve Jobs needs to show us what a humanitarian he is and intervene. If he doesn't, I for one, will most certainly boycott anything Apple. Wait, I already do that anyway.

The world can be changed but thanks to people that think like you it never will.

They are getting what they deserve.

18 months and $23,000.00 fine is hardly justified for leaking a few secrets. I would love to put you on a slow boat to China because you are a freedom hater and have no right to live in a freedom loving country.

China has a long history of valuing of honor, and personal responsibility, breaking oath of secrecy seems like a major insult to those, I'm not surprised harsh punishments were ordered.

US rolls over and says awwww you'll do better next time we see you felt 'all tore up', like the guy in TN who plowed over the 22yr old girl, killed her, and walked away without cops filing charges..

"China has a long history of valuing of honor, and personal responsibility"

Sure they do, that's why most counterfeit products are made in China, right?

Assuming true, unclear what relevance that has...?

Sounds like your saying that when large minority behaves unethically, govt/nation should pander to it?

No, I am saying they are not so honorable and turn a blind eye to the counterfeiting that goes on in their country.

But they do, and that is the point. Blatant Ccounterfeiting and copyright infringement is a major industry in China, and is at the very lest is it condoned, although the reality is that in such a tightly controlled country it could not go on, to the extent it does, without official sanction from the government.

Those situations aren't even remotely comparable and you are being intellectually dishonest for even using them in the same post. No one died because some people leaked "secrets" on the iPad2.

Not counterfeit, third party products that are cheaper.
And how do you think they make these third party products? By reverse engineering the originals, which in turn usually violates copyright on one thing or another.

People don't go to jail in the US for violating a corporate NDA. You get sued in civil court.
