Yes, I know, another "suggest me an LCD for my needs" thread, sue me but I need the input.

Had a beautiful Dell 2405fpw back in 2005 that I sold because I was a dumbass and i've been on a pretty good Viewsonic VX2025wm that i've been pretty happy with all around.

Cept, im doing more multitasking and video editing on my machine and I really miss having all that extra real estate with 24" Plus, the little gaming I do anymore, I wouldn't mind having a bigger window of fun for my basic gaming such as RISK, StarCraft 2 with a little bit of Team Fortress 2 and random FPS.

That being said, im not a diehard color accuraccy, must not have any motion blur whatsoever, God forbid ANY backlight bleeding picky type person but I do want something quality that will last me years down the road that will be a nice upgrade from this Viewsonic.

I would REALLY like to get one that has a freaking adjustable VERTICLE and angle stand included. I've been outa of the monitor loop for awhile so I was immediately looking at the new Dells but I haven't been seeing much info on them here, whats peoples take on them? Is the 120hz refresh rate worth paying extra for even for light gaming. Has LED back lighting gotten better for the price? Sounds like TN panels are still preffered for any gaming vs IPS panels due to ghosting issues from what i've read so far, true?

Newegg has got craploads of 24'' that are popular but all of them are on freaking, non adjustable stands. My Viewsonic came that way and it pissed me off so I got a NeoFlex adjustable stand for it and threw away the base stand. If I was forced too, I suppose I could use my Neo Flex on a 24" and somehow sell my Viewsonic with no stand unless someone else has an idea.

Basically, I just want a quality screen thats an upgrade all around from my Viewsonic VX2025wm that won't cost an arm and a leg that will do well for my needs.

The LG is twice as slow as the Dell U2311H which is the same price.

I thought IPS still wasn't popular for gaming due to ghosting and mouse input lag issues? If TN is just better all around for gaming then i'll take that instead of color accuracy

Maybe a few years ago....most IPS panels have around 2ms of input lag and the ones with resolution scales have 17ms. The problem with the IPS panels is the aggressive AG coating which makes whites and light colors look very dirty/dull/grainy.

The Dell U2311H is almost as fast as a 2ms TN while the LG IPS231P/236V is very slow. Ignore ms GTG ratings and goole search "x" model Review to see how fast a panel is. The only thing that is ever accurate is the 5ms rating for TN's which are usually slow.

If you are a light gamer but get very good frame rates a 120hz monitor is definately worth it.These 2 are the best 23" 120hz panels, the rest have issues:

Glossy Asus VG236H Review

Glossy=clearer images and more vibrant color at the price of relfections. The VG236HE is 350$ and doesn't come with the Nvidia vision kit, the VG236H does.

Matte Planar SA2311W Review

Matte=AG coating which prevents relfections, this monitors coating isn't as severe as IPS panels.

If you want a 27" 120hz panel wait for reviews of the Glossy Samsung S27A950D which comes out this week.

If you are fine with your current TN i reocommend sticking with TN. If you don't want to spend the money for a 120hz panel (350$) take a look at these:

Matte Acer H243H Review 200$ from walmart/Amazon

Glossy HP 2509b Review 240$ from Staples. They don't have the adjustable stand though...

My framerates are not the greatest with my current rig, but thats my choice I guess. 27" is a little to big, 24" is just about right for my needs. I prefer either to order from Dell directely or newegg

As far as antiglare, it needs to be cat claw proof so that probably rules out glossy screens

You are happy with your vx2025wm wich has a very harsh AG and lower pixel pitch. If that doesn't bother you, then dont worry about any IPS with matte screen. Trust me.;)

TN will be a downgrade.

The VX is TN and he likes it, how would a bigger TN with less AG, better color and contrast be a downgrade?

Anyways the Asus ML239H Review has been confirmed to not have Aggressive AG coating and is only 200$. If you want an IPS panel this is the one to get.

The AG is nice because my cat claws my screen and I hate glare, despite having the extra contrast as a result of a glossy screen.

Oh yeah, I forgot its a PVA panel . Honestly, if I could have my 2025wm in 24'' size, i'd be very happy

Mind blown! I was thinking it was some cheap 20" TN this whole time. Berg, how do you know it has aggressive AG?

Basically AG is just a piece of plastic sheet glued to the polarizer and you can remove it with water, but really, dont bother.

Man, such hate for AG screens. I personally hate glossy screens, despite even the contrast increase. To each their own. Glossy screens don't last long with cat claws

Yeah, that's why you can choose any matte screen. It cant be worse than the vx2025wm! :)

FYI Best Buy has the HP 2509b for $199, I picked this up last week after reading the review from NCX. It really is a great monitor, I can now play Thief 1 & 2 or any stealth game that has very dark areas again (Metro 2033) and enjoy it.

That's funny. I just bought this monitor and I hate it. 2 dead pixels and reading text on it is a real pain.
