Far Cry 3, who knew... first footage, though I don't really know what to make of it myself.

Some of the visuals look great, even through the low-res vid, but it doesn't seem like anything fantastic from what they've shown so far. Seems a bit "meh" to me. At least it's back to the jungles, though...

So this is going to be another Crytek "On a very pretty island/jungle rubbish gameplay" release then? *sigh*

I really enjoyed Far Cry 2 and I hope this game will be promising. I just hope this is not some shitty console port though.

I loved FarCry, FarCry2 was kind of a let down, but when you put expectations behind you, it was not a bad game at all, was rather decent actually....

FC3 looks very impressive so far, 7 min video however, wont do justice till I see it in HD =]

Far Cry 2 was good looking and I enjoyed some of it. It just had such bullshit mechanics. Literally get out of viewing distance and the checkpoint you just cleared and the enemies instantly respawn. What the hell did they do call 1-800-Bad-Guys and order a drop shipment with a rush? Make it take a whole day or at least 4 hours to get more guys in there.

The jungle setting looks ok, I just hate the glowing gun thing, and most of all, that annoying red colored threat indication. I can understand the indication when you're hit, but just having them on screen each time a bad guy is nearby is annoying as hell.

Without that two thing, I would love its realistic view where you do not have any HUD with bars and numbers indication. That two feature pretty much kills the realism

Its extremely unlikely I will ever buy another farCry game whether its made by Crytek or not.

Looks very pretty. I'm not a fan of the threat indicator either, FC2 had a really nice, clean interface and it's spoiled by the big red rings. I hope you can turn those off. And that you can still set fire to things.
FC2 for all its flaws was underrated (or more accurately, over-criticised), personally I'm glad they're doing another. At least it's not about aliens or interchangeable "modern warfare" scenarios.

You know what this game needs? Zombies. Every game needs more zombies. :p

The gameplay did look kinda neat without the HUD ruining the little atmosphere it had. Then they started shooting... :(

Looks pretty good - is this using Cryengine2? You can tell the npc characters are still in rough stage, but the terrain looks very promising.

If they would just fix some of the horribly annoying gameplay mechanics of FC2 (namely the npc spawn patterns and rabidly hostile AI), they could have a pretty good title on their hands.

Speaking of which, are there mods out yet to fix some of the horribly annoying gameplay mechanics of FC2? It'd be nice to re-play that one some time with a few "fix" mods.

Looks like a continuation of the second game or at least its along those lines rather than being a real sequel to Far Cry. So no mutants, or Jack Carver. Obviously thats good or bad depending on your perspective but this one reminds me of the second game more than the first which will make it a deal breaker for me.

This looks good. Hopefully more of a throwback to FC1. Because 2, was not that good.

On rails shooters make great trailers but boring games.

The second game wasn't on rails. It was very open. It lacked direction and was overly repative which made it suck worse than if it had been on rails.

It looks more like a sequel to 2 than 1.

I don't mind if it's more like 2 IF...and this is a big one:

Please let me actually have an impact on the game world. Please let me not live in glass bottle where people and foliage alike reincarnate and regenerate into infinity.

The player makes NO impact or difference of ANY kind in that game world.

A little more color wouldn't be bad, either.

Please let me have a diversity of things to do and in different places. In FC2, it was laughable how many missions happened in the same places with the same enemies and same everything over and over again. It was madness.

I'd be hard pressed to name a game in recent years at least that offered LESS incentive and LESS satisfying than Far Cry 2. It looked gorgeous but that's about it. It was a huge prick tease.

Just make Far Cry 3 fun and satisfying. That's all I ask.

it will end up being a console port for PC and be gay. I know we aren't suppose to talk about the death of PC gaming, but on the FPS front, it is pretty dead....least until, hopefully BF3 brings back some glory. Luckily we still get things like ARMA.

Don't forget Red Orchestra 2.

The first Far Cry was epic...so far ahead of it's time. Graphics were amazing, and the free roam game play style rocked. And the story was quite good too.

FC2...I could take it or leave it. It was a let down for me...

I hope they get back to their roots with #3. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Red Orchestra and the rest of the shitload of great-looking games recently released/scheduled for release in the near future.

That's how I feel about it. :)

I see a LOT of money going out of my pocket from now through the end of the year.

I will probably buy it since I somewhat enjoyed the second one, at least enough to beat it once. Hopefully they remove the respawning bad guys as soon as you leave mechanic and the drive to the other sde of the map, do mission, drive back where you just were, drive again, etc BS. Those two things right there were the biggest flaws of the game.
The second game could have used some predators in the wild as well. I kept wanting a lion or hyenas to randomly try to eat me in certain areas if other game was around. I got tired of doing drive by's on gazelle or zebras. Crocodiles should have been in some of the rivers and lakes too.

Far Cry 2 was pretty and fairly fun until it got all repetitive. My girlfriend called it 'the driving game' which I thought was fairly apt. Of course she also called Fallout 3 'the talking game'...

I liked far cry 2, even though it wasn't popular, I liked how you had to plan your attack and things weren't scripted, I hope they fix some of the more serious flaws in it (like enemies respawning the moment you get out of sight.

Sounds like your girlfriend should do some game reviews. They'd probably be better than most that come out and would save us all a lot of time and money.

The first 10 seconds of the video had me wondering if the plane was going to fall and kill Boone again.

Don't forget Red Orchestra 2.

I bet this gets bastardized as well to appeal to the masses cause niche communities don't make money and RO1 was a pretty darn small and close knit community.

PC exclusive only. :) No console ports, no nuthin'. PC only. :)

I hate all of that crap in console games. Takes away all the realism when your enemies glow and there's a stupid: "Follow" over some guy's head.

I play PC games with HUD and GUI all off and no crosshairs if I can.

Also, LOL @ the guy's swimming technique to get to the surface. Did they reuse the crawl animation?

I wish games would give us new worlds. Whatever happened to things like Origin's "We Create Worlds" ? I don't want to play another stupid FPS with AK-47s against a bunch of guerillas/mercs in a jungle with shacks!

That's like every freaking game from Far Cry to Crysis to Uncharted, blah blah blah.

Looks good, though after far cry 2 there is no way this will be a day 1 buy. I'll see if it turns out to be as fun as the trailer looks or just mindless shoe leather like FC2.

As for online one thing FC2 nailed ridiculously well was the Map editor, it's just too bad it was crippled by lousy online structure and performance. Bring back the map editor & make a fun and competitive online multiplayer component with good performance and this could be a real gem.

The editor was kinda fun, but everything turned out looking too similar. If they could let designers bring in their own assets somehow, do some basic modeling, and get it online and distributed easily, it might be worth it. But hell, I think they've tried that now with a couple games and maybe they figure it's not worth all that effort.
