It is expected that the rumors about automatic downloads through iOS 5 will be confirmed at the approaching Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, which opens on Monday. If the rumors pan out, the task of visiting the App Store for updates and installations will no longer be required to stay up to date.

Looks like you will be able to get the latest application will be automatically installed on your iPhone or IPAD without visiting the App Store or sync with ITunes.

Nice, but I hope I can disable this. Sometimes new versions don't work too well.

Jobs: Welcome to 2007, Apple fanatics! It's been a long hard road, but we're finally here and boy do I have something magi...hold on, getting an update in my ear piece...I mean VERY magical for you! When I said 2007, I meant the 2007 of the past, when other companies did OTA installations and updates, they did it all wrong.

Today, I'm here to show you how it's done right. Our OTA the updates are built on innovation, magic and the experience. When you download your software updates and installations OTA on our prodcuts, it's a REAL experience! Not like years ago in 2007 when they used mere wireless to do the job. That's right, here at Apple we've invented a new way to connect your Apple products to our iTunes servers.

That's right, we've gone and included iWireless with iOS5. That's right, the same wireless you know and love except now, it's a magical experience. When you download your favorite tunes and updates from our servers, it'll be like nothing you've ever experience before.

Sorry, I had too. :D

Sounds like a great way to go over AT&T's 2 gig bandwith limit and get charged out the ass per meg. It best be an optional "feature".

RTFA...
It indicates op-in, and it's probably logical to assume there will be a 'when on wifi only' option as well.

You can already do OTA updates as long as it's less than 20 MB. Unless you jailbreak.

Hmm... just lemme look at my Android phone... oh yeah right there on that screen... automatic app updating... move along people nothing new or revolutionary to see here...

Yeah, we know.
But this is Apple. As far as Jobs and his fans are concerned, Apple either did it first, or are the first ones to have gotten it right, and it is everyone else that is copying them.
