APB: Reloaded Open Beta

the download manager sucks ass -- it's crashed 5 times doing it's little updates.

These guys really arent impressing me at all -- and I havent even gotten into a game yet!

alright -- strike three -- this whole setup blows. I finally got into a game... looks cool I'm sure it can be fun. HOWEVER:

The problems i Had simply getting the game combined with their buggy download manager, the nail in the coffin his this gamers first software you are required to run. It sits in your tray running a bit torrent client uploading the install file to others. there is NO option to turn it off, or limit the amount of bandwidth it sucks up. Seriously? Even after you close the gamers first client it STILL continues to upload. So they don't give you a choice here huh?

Because this company doesnt want to pay to get their game out -- the burden is not on me?

Fuck this company. and maybe their game would have been fun had they not assed it up with a cumbersome setup and then totally hijacking your upstream traffic.

I suspect they are a little overburdened and overwhelmed with the Open Beta player influx. Try again later. I have not had any problems with their tools.

Screens, please? This doesn't run on my PC. Once it's done, you should just be able to run the APB launcher.

+1. I am removing/scanning as I type this. Under the startup tab of msconfig, the entry for this is flagged /silent. Is this bad, or am I just being paranoid?

Several players, myself included, are getting PunkBuster "losing key packets" errors (even after manually updating PB, and running both PunkBuster A and B at high priority), which makes the game unplayable. This needs to be fixed ASAP...

Had one hickup on the install during the update but other than that I've yet to have any problems playing this game, other than completely sucking at it that is.

The program does install spyware.

lets see

there was game something that dl adp
also there is some pando mediabooster that got installed.

I didnt notice that until i looked at my net limiter.

HA HAHA I didnt even see that :p

that's why I posted him (same reason for the chick with blood on her dress and running down her legs...wtf?). There are a BUNCH of people playing the game that think penis tattoos and swastikas are okay...ummm, not sure why.

Thanks for the link. Does the [H] community have a server they play on or a way to hook up?

Yeah I'd like to play with some [H] Members too... didn't see anything in the General Gaming sub-forum.

We will have to make a list with our names / servers so we can all put each other on our in-game friends lists.

Played a few hours today. Kind of annoying until you unlock a weapon.

Kettch, Enforcer, East

Sweeet.... I've been playing quite a bit. BlueNyx, Gang, East

Been playign with all regular weapons. This game has been pretty awesome.

I just set panda boost to 1kb and firewalled it. I'm still running around tutorials. fun stuff.

Was kind of intrested now its free...but the spyware crap has put me off... Is it removable or how this thing is "paid for".

You can remove the GamerFirstLive and Pando Media Booster easily and you dont even need them to run APB. There must be some way to suppress them during so they wont install but if you can't find a way just uninstall them.

I have played for a few hours now, Jubuntu - Enforcer - East. I must same the game runs so much smoother than before. The new mission system keeps things going at a fast pace and you can get access to nice guns quickly. I seriously have been going at it and three hours flew by like nothing..

People who are able to do a lot of customization are probably "premium" so the really detailed vans and people are paying. I doubt they will police those people too much since they are paying to be obscene basically.

The things that bugged me most and have stopped me from playing for a couple weeks are:

Matchmaking - I get paired up against people all the time who are impossible to kill alone, they are high rank and high threat (rank is something you gain via contacts, threat is something you gain via winning missions, I admittedly do not understand fully how threat works but it helps you get better rewards the higher it is). The game rarely pairs you up against people who are your own rank/threat with the same number of people. I once was in a team of 4 who got paired up against 8-10 high threat criminals. We were able to call for backup once, we got 1 person. So it was 5 to 8-10 (I think 2 of the people might have been linkdead). So we were essentially 5 people against 2 full groups.

Spawn system - So if you can live with a broken matchmaking system, you end up dieing a lot. And when you die the spawn system kicks in. It spawns you around the objective point, sometimes close to two object points. So you'll end up being 200meters out when you spawn usually. Although a couple times I ended up being 500m out. You also generally end up having two approach points maximum but you tend to more heavily spawn in one direction. You rarely spawn along side teammates. And sometimes you even spawn next to enemies (which means you got a "close" spawn of 50m or so away), and more or less you end up with your back to them 8 times out of 10...dieing again and being spawned far away. So if you don't die within seconds of spawning, you end up having to run a long distance back to help.

Enforcer mechanics - Criminals can basically rob stuff for money, they don't need enforcers around to pull off the money making. Enforcers need criminals to make money outside of missions. They need criminals to steal cars and abandon them, they need criminals to mug or ramraid so they can witness them doing it. They need criminals to abandon items and such so they can recover them. Basically enforcers boil down to either doing missions or following criminals around trying to witness them, a built in "camping class" because criminals can't fight back until they've been witnessed. Which often boils down to a criminal out of his car picking up ramraided loot while police guy is hurtling toward them in a car, witnesses them 5 seconds from impact, lag delay, mission starts for "witnessing", and criminal is ran over...they get out to pick up the money bag and hoof it to the turn in. So in other words, unless an enforcer can mission at all times or doesn't mind stalking other players to grief them.....you're going to be poor. While criminals can do their own thing with a little caution and get money...or pick servers light on enforcers. Also note, if you are a criminal on a mission and you are not paired up against enforcers already. Enforcers outside of the mission can witness you hacking/ramraiding/whatever and start you on a completely un-related mission...so they can even influence your missions to some degree. It's like enforcers were designed to be griefers, and there is nothing you can do about it most times.

I finally got in some game time and its pretty damn fun. Feels like the gamer is just a few more ideas away from being something really great. Hope this sticks around for a while...

It surprising noone has made a "clean" installer. I don't really know what they are thinking filling it with junkware, even with the ability to remove it it feels like random clicking on myspace ads. It's not going to help the adoption rate, and I don't know of any of the other free RPGs offering this kind of "service"... especially during a beta/opening phase where they will form peoples opinions.

Had a blast most of the day with my buddies. Then the crowds died down and the hacks started to appear. I saw a dude with a bounty get hit by 2 cars. He then shredded 6 of us as we all unloaded on his ass.

This was not the only BS we witnessed but, that guy wins the prize.

Sad really. The game looks like it has potential. I guess when there is no financial penalty for getting banned(Free Game) the low lifes just do as they please.

I gave it a days worth of play. I dont know if I was doing something wrong or what, but I would do missions where I would unload 2+ clips into a guy, have him turn around and pretty much one shot me. Either theres some hacks going on or a serious situation with unbalance. I got about 4 hours of play out of it and its uninstalling as we speak. Great idea for a game, very very very bad execution.

Haha. If I remember from last year each weapon has an internal timer until the weapon's firing pattern becomes too spread out to hit anything. If you can't kill someone try feathering the trigger in short controlled bursts. This ensures the best possible accuracy.

That chain gun couldn't kill a fly last year. It was designed to strictly kill vehicles. Yes it was dumb sounding, but I suppose it sorta makes sense. At least that's what I told myself.

My post was based on last year's game. If they changed those aspects of the game I apologize.

You are definitely doing it wrong. It takes less than half a clip with most guns, or two well aimed shotgun blasts to kill a person. All guns in APB have a ridiculous recoil which takes a while to get used too, it took me a while when I first started playing to win exchanges. However last night I was destroying people with my OCA getting kill streaks left and right. Every guns strength and weakness is it effective range and each one requires a different play style for you to win most exchanges.

It also help knowing all the maps already. :D

You are doing it wrong.

All guns have an effective range -- OCA/Colby and shotguns rule CQC. Assault rifles tend to work better at medium range. Sniper rifles better at long range. LMG are more anti-vehicle, etc.

You need to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the weapons, plus learn each gun's recoil/bloom pattern.

If you are unloading 2 full clips, you are probably shooting everywhere BUT the actual target. Recoil/bloom in this game goes up very rapidly.

1. Customization -- actual, a lot of the "customized" people are non-premium players too. You can have 25 layers per symbol, I believe. So if you plan ahead, you can map out your patterns and symbols quite easily.

2. Matchmaking -- it's not about rank. It's about THREAT LEVEL. There were some threat level bugs, but they appear to all be resolved as of Monday as far as I can tell. Just because someone has rank 100+ doesn't mean they are a good player, it just means they have been grinding out the contacts. The asymmeterical missions are part of the fun. It looks at your W:L, K:D, etc., and matches you up accordingly. I've played 3v6 as part of the 3 and won because we had better teamwork. I've played 7v4 as part of the 4 and lost because the other team had better teamwork. If it is matching you up asymmeterically, it's because it believes you are capable of winning (and the same holds true for the other part of the equation) -- i.e., 4 great players vs 7 average players.

3. Spawn system -- not much to say here, has its pro's and con's. Some people love it, some people hate it. I don't have any problems with it. Generally speaking, the better you are doing before you die, the worse your next spawn is.

4. Enforcer earning mechanics -- Criminals have the potential to earn moremoney, however, it's not hard to earn money in game. Just do missions. Weapons and vehicles are proportionately pretty cheap. Enforcers also have less-than-lethal weapons, which Criminals do not have any access to.

5. Weapons -- there aren't really better weapons so much as there are modified weapons. It's more along the lines of specialization instead of upgrades. I.E., you can have a faster rate of fire, but you just reduced your ammo count by 20%. It might help you get that first kill, but you are going to have to reload far sooner.

The first thing I do when I am in a match is hit Tab to see what the enemy team is using, then come up with a loose strategy based on their weapons. IE, maybe Enemy 1 is using an OCA (smg) but Enemy 2 is using a sniper rifle, and I am using an assault rifle. I know that if I run into Enemy 1, I need to turn it into a mid range battle. If I see Enemy 2, I want to get up im his grill.

There is actually a lot of depth and strategy involved in the game. Best bet is to use the VOIP in game to coordinate with your team and play to the strengths of your weapon while playing to the weakness of your opponents' weapons.

Lastly, it's BETA. If you aren't submitting bug reports, posting on their forums, etc., they are not going to necessarily know your issues.

Played it for a good chunk of last night, pretty fun game. It never installed properly, but i just force quit the installer at the end and have been running it as such (after manually downloading some files).

oneos (Enforcer) on Joker

All I know is the teams I was in....I was the highest threat guy, and I was below everyone else on the enemy side nearly every mission we did for the last 2-3 days I played before I got fed up. This was when VOIP was not working and the servers had a fairly consistent lag delay due to a recent patch and possible open beta influx. I have no idea if these things are fixed as of today, but a little over a week ago everything I listed was there and being bitched about constantly in the public channels by a lot of other people.

For instance, what lloose described with emptying multiple clips into someone and them not dieing. Well at the time, there was a lot of people complaining about it. I had problems with it when I played last because people were rubber-banding and I was rubber-banding at times. I would watch enemies run forward then snap back, do 180 turns and shoot me dead after I had been shooting them in the back as they ran away from me.

And I just don't care for the disparity in gameplay between enforcers and criminals when it comes to non-mission gameplay. If you're getting raped in missions, it'd be nice to have something to do to try to get some ranks and unlock some goods where it it doesn't involve being raped more. Criminals can basically do that, there's a chance of being witnessed but in general...enforcer has to be really lucky or a toolbag to catch you unless you're blantant. Enforcer on the other hand, you have to drive around getting out to look at each car to see if it's stolen (can't just mouse over while driving like criminals can do with storefronts).....or drive around trying to witness criminals and run them down in your car for a quick kill and turn in so you're not being raped by his high dollar weapons and mods...or his back ups high dollar weapons and mods. Enforcer is a little overly safe with extra griefing thrown on top, criminal just has a slight chance of being caught unless people are camping the contacts for good money and OK rank advancement. Im sure enforcer is much better when you own stuff to make it easier to kill and win in missions, but I find missions to be pretty boring especially when you get paired up against enemies 4-5 missions in a row and they drag out cuz it never fails someone goes linkdead or something weird happens.

Its not really "junkware", the GamersFirst installer is essentially Steam for F2P games, and pando media booster is just a more efficient download client.

I havn't read through this whole thread, but just in case it hasn't been posted yet, theres a direct link to the APB installer here:
http://setup.gamersfirst.com/installers/APB_Reloaded_Installer.exe

I don't knwo if you guys know or not.

But Gamer's First seems to be required... it updates the game.
That installs panda booster... =(, but I still have it capped.

The Gamer's First client isn't required, I never installed it and I have been playing APB for months. APB:R has its own launcher that updates the game. You can also uninstall pando media booster if you don't need it.

What's the file name for apb:r's launcher? I thought I found it but apparently not.... if I can get rid of them I'd like that... I don't mind gamer's first so much but panda media is sooooooo wrong..... and to have one you have the other so....

The file i found said I didn't have the right version, and wouldn't let me join districts.

oh... hah, nm i fopund it. i usually look in binaries... man thay was dumb of me.

had some fun last night on this thing only 1 enforcer on thought it was strange. But for some reason my game crashs/lags out after about an hour of gameplay. I did reformat recently so maybe im missing uptodate drivers some where.

My buddies and I played for the first time last night, before we knew it, 3::30am rolled around... Good times. good game. I like the free to play model. I'll def toss down some real money to pay for some items to support the game.

I posted in the other thread but:

Name: Reverand
Server: Joker (East)
Side: Enforcer
