Hellgate London returns!

I really liked the premise of the game to start... and then it just fell flat on its face. The first few levels were great, it was fun with friends but then the game teetered out for anything to to end game for me. Just like AoC.

Hopefully they re-make it to be more interesting this time lol

I wasted 50 dollar on HG:L ...

Since this is suppose to be taken over by the kimchi game company, I suspect this game going to be worse or at least more grind......

I think they completely ignore those who actually bought the game ages ago.. :p

I feel bad for those people who bought that lifetime sub they offered when it first came out.

Interesting! My wife and I both really liked the original demo, but by the time we completed it and were going to go out and get the final, word had already gotten out that it was on borrowed time. The joys of being late to play a demo.
So...is it a remake of the older game, a sequel, or are they just kicking up some new servers for the same game?

The game, way before the release, promised soooo much. If any of you followed the game, you must have seen the amazing cinematics that they created. (A la Blizzard North) None of that was in the game. Their website was awesome, too, ~2005ish, but somewhere along the way they must have fired their talented web development team, and replaced the entire thing with a run-of-a-mill website (or whatever the saying is).

I purchased a collectors edition of the game. I obviously wasted money on it, but thankfully I didn't get suckered into the "Founders" thing (150 USD).

A friend of mine worked for Flagship. I have a huge Hellgate poster signed by Bill Roper himself with a dedication for me.

This is THE GAME that I really hoped would succeed. In the end, it was fun, but a terrible disappointment with such huge expectations. When it released, I gave it a 7/10, which ain't bad, but I was hoping for a lot more.

let this turd die. another game i wasted 50$ on because i believed the hype. Never again....

I spent 70 bucks on the collectors edition. Only to find myself running through the same tile sets for 20 hours....but I finally did finish the game.

It looks like it's the same game as before. Word is that they should be adding in some of the content patches that never released too.

I remember liking what I played of it (and thinking it looked good) but that was some time ago.

I did the machine gun spec, as enemies ranp up in health, it seems like all you do is listen to a non-stop drone on and on of SMG fire. It's was really monotonous =/

I couldn't stand to finish it =/

I'm not able to get a key :( Are you guys getting a popup?

I was pretty hooked on this game.

same not working for me says "download available after login" but theres no where to register. Really really want in on this can someone help me?

Bringing HGL back now would be like Gamersfirst bringing back APB, but waiting about 4 years to do it so that everybody who had ever cared even slightly about it gave up and moved on.

Give the game a chance. What's it going to hurt being released for free? Just because you guys are pissed that you got burned when you bought it doesn't mean that the rest of us don't want to give it a try. It's hard to wrap your head around how people can be so opinionated about something that doesn't effect them even slightly.

right at the top of the screen on the right is the register button, took me a minute to find it as its small

The game sucked then and I'm sure it sucks now What's the point?

Have you played it?

One thing that I hated when the game released is that it received so much hard criticism from players. Most of it was undeserved. The game was by no means amazing, but I thought it was quite solid. At some points in the game, I actually thought the game was great (maxed out group, tons of mobs, a lot of action... Fun!). It just wasn't as done as it should have been. No awesome cinematics, no storyline, less then ideal loot system, and the virtually pointless subscription fee.

The original beta was hellishly glitchy. I did buy the collector's edition but I felt burned when the whole game felt like it was trying too hard to be Diablo 2.

I'm sure that a whole new set of people will find the game to be bland & boring.

The game has endless potential since there isn't much like it out there, but most of that potential was wasted on little to no variety. Everything in the game has a very "been there, done that" feel after the short honeymoon period wears off.

Exactly. Great potential but that's all.

I'm amazed anyone would want to come within a mile of this.

Same, but if they've done some upgrades and added more variety they may fix much of that. I loved the game and the potential it had, but they really screwed the pooch on some of the basic premises.

Thanks Im in now. I played this on a friends computer a few years ago and I wouldnt mind checking it out again.

I did play it and it wasn't a good game.

I did play it and it wasn't a good game.

Was it terrible, though? So bad that you couldn't bear to play it for 5 minutes? I doubt it. If it just "wasn't a good game" perhaps being available for free instead of having to pay for it will make players feel less ripped off and more like playing the game.

Why are so many of you defending such an obvious bad game? It was so bad that the company went under.

Yes, the game was TERRIBLE, not just bad but terrible. It is an insult to even consider giving it another try. Games don't fail as quickly as this one did unless it is in fact a bad game.

It was an over hyped, buggy, unfinished, really a non-mmo yet subscription based diablo wanna be game. Everything looks the same. Why did you everyone even buy this game? The movies were amazing. Too bad that same quality wasn't put in the game otherwise they might still be making games right now.

Was it terrible, though?

Yes

So bad that you couldn't bear to play it for 5 minutes?

I would never play it for another 5 minutes.

I doubt it.

You must of played a different game

If it just "wasn't a good game" perhaps being available for free instead of having to pay for it will make players feel less ripped off and more like playing the game.

Trust me, any person that purchased the game will likely still feel ripped off, especially those who bought the founder subscription.

I actually enjoyed the game... no, it wasn't the best game ever, but I am actually excited its coming back (especially if there are bugfixes/new content)

I only felt ripped off in the sense that the multiplayer went down so soon. I almost feel more ripped off by Brink than I did this game (and I enjoy Brink more than the masses)

Bought the original, fool me once.....

Interesting thing to bring back.

Yeah.. the premise was great. I was really rooting for the game to succeed. Damn... was it a let down. I still came out ahead with it, so at least my time's been compensated for.

Cinematics were made by Blurr Studio. This is pretty much the only reason why they looked so good

BTW. Who's your friend? There's a good chance I met him when visiting FSS a couple of times.

And yeah, I've got a shit ton of swag from them as well. Posters, shirts, hats, mouse pads, christmas cards... you name it. Hell.. they paid for my vacation, too. Well, it was all EA, but still... FSS branding on the label so I'm giving credit where the credit is due :p

let this turd die. another game i wasted 50$ on because i believed the hype. Never again....

Sorry for hyping the game. We did get paid to do just that. Also, if you think the hype in the US was big, you should see what Bandai Namco was doing in Asia. That shit was out of control!

You could beat the game using nothing but grenades, too :D (it was fixed just before the release... I think).

The pay-to-play is what really killed the game. The moment they made that decision, is the day they killed the game, IMO.

BTW. Who's your friend? There's a good chance I met him when visiting FSS a couple of times.

His name was Mariusz. A Polish guy. He was my sister's boyfriend for quite a while.

I actually don't remember what his affiliation with Flagship was. But he did spend some time out there in the Flagship offices.

Hellgate had a lot going for it. I will admit though, I didn't get very far. And by far, I mean I got stuck in the terrain outside the first tunnel exit, and didn't feel like making a new character.

I don't know why, but I really liked this game. Until the repetition got to me.
I loved the sound effects!

I have a copy of Hellgate:London that I'll give to somebody for the cost of shipping. PM me if interested.

I played the recent closed beta and enjoyed myself. Never played it the first time around. I'm not sure how much longevity it will have for me, but I'll most likely give it a go. I think it really appeals to a certain type of gamer that loves tons of randomized useful loot, and tweaking builds a lot. I completely understand how it could be a pretty repetitious game to some. Randomized loot + different classes/builds to play with is fun for me, at least for a while.

Exactly, what a crappy game, im so annoyed i bought that steamy pile.
