Ikea desk gallery

Wow, I know somebody who has the FREDRIK and i didn't like it... with these mods it brings it ALMOST up to par with the JERKER in my opinion. Great job might have some questions for you when i show my friend these pictures.

the thing I don't like about the FREDRIK is that to me it's too cramped.

the JERKER is a fantastic desk and just that a desk. no top level attachments.
drawers if you want, or 2 swinging trays on the edge.

I think the Fredrik has like multiple sizes. The larger one has just the deskitself which is a pretty decent size desk.

Yep, there is a 3ft version and a 4ft version.

@sillybilly - awesome setup!

I just got myself a new (used) Fredrik last night off Craigslist for $30. The desk is in great condition and it looks pretty damn good as far as space.I'll post some pictures this weekend after I get everything setup :)

Can the drawer be added onto the Galant after it's been built?

Mine's all setup and it's great, but I kind of want a drawer...

On the IKEA site there doesn't seem to be an option to purchase just the drawer, only the desk with a drawer.

Someone that was selling a jerker on Craigslist sent me this pic and said they were the dimensions of his desk.

I'm confsused about the different sizes. Are there basically 2 versions, one being 57" wide and 30" deep, with the other being 47" wide and 36" deep? I would love to get one that is 57" long to be near my wall, while the 47" would not reach it.

The actual dimensions of the Jerker (like the one shaped in your picture) is 120cm wide by 90cm deep (actual desktop size). I think the mk1 desk may be slightly different. Hope this helps.

I need some help, anyone know what desk is this? or something similar?

It has everyone I want, L-Shape keyboard in the middle and monitor stand. Can anyone point to something similar?

Not sure where you would buy that desk at, the ikea gallant can be customized similar to that, and with little to no building experience of any kind you could easily make a monitor stand like that. Otherwise all the materials can be found here...

Just picked up a free galant corner desk in great shape off craigslist today to replace my fredrick! Can't wait to get it setup after seeing these

nice setups! id post pics but you see more clutter than anything! lol
maybe ill pick up a little then put some up

Is than an external internal card reader? Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I would be worried about my system being up that high.

Yes, that's a inturnal card reader, but since I don't have any decent looking way of mounting it in the antec 300 at this time and the back of the card reader has standard USB plugs it sits beside the PC :)
As for the PC being high up, it's safe. No kids/pets to worry about causing a topple.

Here's my ikea fredrik, it's the bigger version and wasn't too bad of a find on craigslist for like $80:

I kinda wish it was a little wider so I could put another monitor on there but you can't have everything.

I wish my Jerker was wider for the same reason. I have two 23" and would like to fit my 25" as well, no luck.

I think the biggest advantage of the jerkers are the swing out shelves..still, no bigger than a 20" lenghwise or a 24 verticially.

My old school 40" takes most of the center, but I'd bet a thinner 46" could probably fit in the center

Galant right corner with extension, and half round on the right, 63" Galant table attached to the corner desk. 2 Logga shoe racks used for hard drives and networking equipment.

What we learned... I need a new damn drill since mine doesn't have enough oomph to get a hole saw through the top for the cable caps. The rest of it though... wonderful.

Nice set up. Also, it's good to see another Bears fan on [H]ard.

Bear Down!

I don't know how so many people here can deal with such small desks. I just bought a 63" galant, and I would have gone for a corner version if I had the room. With that being said, here is my current setup, minus the keyboard which is on its way. Im looking to get another monitor at some point as well.

Can someone that's bought a Galant throw some information my way, if at all possible?

I'm wanting to put a Galant along the corner created by a bar and a wall (I've just moved into a more "studio"-like space and never used the bar in my old place anyway), and put a half circle on the "right side" in a corner desk-right config, but without the left-hand extension. So basically I want this . . .

. . . without the extension on the left, but with the half circle added on the right (and maybe the half-circle added on the left too, but without the extension) with T-legs. This doesn't seem to be a listed combination on the website, but I was just wondering if this is easy enough to build by just buying the right bits? Thanks guys.

I think you have to buy the pieces you want separately. I've seen someone else (in this thread) with both rounded edges on the Gallant table.

I know you can buy the legs separately, but is it possible to buy the desk frame separately for Ikea desks? Not having any luck searching.

You can order the frame separately, but you have to call Ikea to do so. they do not sell them separately online. You can go to this link to see the various sizes they have. Look for Galant in the list.

Hey there,

I've been searching for a desk that will accommodate all of my electronic equipment and have been unsuccessful thus far... That is until I came across this awesome workstation gallery. I'm not sure which desk exactly would be perfect but I think I like the Fredik best. I had a few questions about the desk and if anyone can answer them I'd greatly appreciate it.

I work from home as a graphic artist and I use a Cintiq 21UX for most of my work. It's pretty big and is a pain to work on right now because my current desk is too tall. About 29 inches high. For me to work comfortably the desk would have to have a height of 23-25 inches. I'm pretty short as it is (around 5'2"). Is the Fredrik desks height adjustable?

I've seen a few on the website and noticed some have lights when others don't. Can you purchase the lights from IKEA and are they easy to install?

Also, my desktop tower is quite big as well and I'd need some sort of shelf to accommodate it. It's around 22 inches high, 22 1/2 inches in length, and around 8 inches wide.

I haven't been able to find a comfortable desk and it seems like IKEA might have what I need, I just don't exactly know what I'd need to modify it just right. The closet store is around 6 hours away so I'd probably have to get it all shipped.

Anyways, if someone could suggest or help in anyway I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Miss Munster

This desk is particular I like very much because of all the space: http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/764/p2110156.jpg

1. Yes, the desk is height-adjustable (although not continuously as Galant desk)
2. Many lights that you see here are IKEA Dioder. "Easy" (to install) is relative ... I'd say they are easy to install, but it may be a bit more difficult (or involve extra steps) if you want to hide cables.

If $100 is a material amount of money to you, check local craigslist for Fredrik and Jerker (another desk, not sure if you caught it in the thread -- some will argue it's better than Fredrik) before you order from IKEA.

I know you can buy the legs separately, but is it possible to buy the desk frame separately for Ikea desks? Not having any luck searching.

Piece of frame is sold bundled with the piece of table-top it supports.

I just purchased this same desk (minus the extension) in person at my local IKEA warehouse, and it came in three separate packages that I had to gather individually:

1) Wood surface
2) Metal supporting framework
3) Legs (x5)

This only applies if you are physically at an IKEA location, but yes you can walk in and purchase the frame & legs by themselves if you wish to add your own wood surface.

On a similar but different note, I am wanting to apply some kind of epoxy or extra-durable sealant on my desk (I have the dark brown version). Has anybody here done this to any IKEA desks? If so, what specifically did you use? Polyurethane of some kind?
