Dell U2311H

Hey,

I'm looking to get another of these monitors but I'm just wondering... how can you possibly get it for $170? Where can I find the coupon that your using? Please let me know.

Thank you.

Currently its 250 at Dell’s website, but I wouldn’t call that much of a deal. Nothing like 170.

Saw the deal for $250. I might pull the trigger.

Currently using a HP w2207h for gaming and graphic design. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...c=en&cc=us&product=3543988&key=null&site=null

Would this U2311H be a good upgrade? I have read a lot of good reviews about this Dell panel.

I really like the glossy look of my current HP, however the viewing angles are terrible! Will I be disappointed with the anti-glare coating on this dell? If the anti-glare is not too harsh, this Dell might be perfect for me.

Thanks!

I've been reading through quite a few pages of this thread and there seem to be quite a few drawbacks to this screen. I have a bit of a conundrum here... I was able to snag 3 of these for 139$ CAD the other day at dell.ca. I'm quite anal about screen quality, but considering I got them for so cheap, I don't know... What do you guys think of the u2311 if it was at a 139$ price? Does it change opinions? I would be using it in an eyefinity setup with the system in my sig. Presently have one 2405fpw, which I am considering keeping as the central screen and using 2x2311 as sides, or possibly go all 2311. When running my 2405 @1080p, the actual screen size is just about the same as it would be on a 2311, so it should match up pretty well. That IPS glow is a bit of a b**ch...

Deal is done, It was marked down to $230 then there was a weird coupon that took off $90.

I picked 3 of them for my eyefinity setup and I'm very happy with quality.
On of them was bit darker comparing to other two and I could not compensate with the settings so I called dell and they cross shipped replacement.
No dead pixels, they look identical.

Thx again for all the info I was able to get from the great [H] comunity to help me make that great choice !

Just picked up 3 of these BNIB (A01 rev) and I'm very happy with the picture/quality. These are replacing my 2407's since one of them has some issues and it's impossible to find a another for a good price. I have a 6950 with mini DP inputs, would I be better off getting some normal DP cables and using the DP to MINI DP dongle or just get some DP to MINI DP cables and not use the converter. Also is anyone experiencing the vertical line issue using 3 of these in 2xDP and 1xDVI configuration? I've seen some claims of no issues but I would think there would be some on the DVI monitor?

I was in need of a new monitor and wound up ordering the Dell. Before, I've used a CRT/TN-panel combo, so I have no experience whatsoever from IPS-panels. With the price I paid, one wouldn't be able to expect utter perfection, but one question I'm still trying to figure out.

Should IPS-glow be visible from head on? In the bottom right corner, there's a clear, purple/blue 'glow/tint' that shows up on dark/black colors. Naturally, vivid and bright images tend to hide it better. For example, it shows very well on this forum. If I move my view clearly to the right, it lessens and moving head clearly below it, the effect lessens even more -- but that's not an ergonomically viable option.

I tried the monitor at different distances, different tilts as well, without luck. The blue-ish haze is there.

Now, like I said, I don't have experiences with IPS-monitors so maybe it's only a 'feature', but should it really be that pronounced from somewhat straight on viewing angles?

So, I have one of these coming tomorrow. Now, with two children and little time, I don't really have the time to read through this whole thread, so any help below is much appreciated and hopefully excused.

Problems to look out for:
Blacklight bleed: Is this when the screen is off and you see white light on the screen? Or...?
Purple glow: Normal with IPS from what I've heard.
Odd tinting: Is green or yellowish tinting still a problem?
Anything else to be aware of besides dead pixels?

Recommended settings:
I don't have access to a color measuring thingamabob, so does anyone have some recommended settings? Brightness, color etc. Start with custom I suppose? I imagine I will need to fiddle with it myself, but I thought I would try here for a start.

Thanks for all the help. My children appreciate that I'll spend less time reading this thread and more time throwing them into the air. I think.

Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying a triple monitor (3x1) setup for my new system which i will run in eyefinity. I've been researching for some hours and i think i have two choices.

3x Dell U2311H - 1920x1080, 23 inch but IPS - 200 euro each
3x Samsung 2443BW - 1920x1200, 24 inch but TN - 210 euro each

The main advantage of the Samsungs is the higher resolution. I can imagine this resolution paysoff the little price difference. However, I have serious doubt about the TN panel. I don't know if I can do portrait mode with the Samsung, because of the viewing angles. I think I will use landscape mode the most, but I want to keep my setup as versitile as possible.

I know I'm posting this in the U2311H thread, so i might get some colored answers. But I'm trying nontheless.

Maybe someone has a better suggestion for max 650 euro (without adapter) triple monitors?

just received a second monitor but this version is new a03
dont know but i dont see any difference with the a02

weird I just bought this monitor from Dell and I got a Rev.A01, what are the differences of A01 and A02?

So is the display port on the U2311H not HDCP compatible?

I'm using the cyberlink DB advisor to test my compatibility and it says my display is failing the test.

I have a Radeon 6950 and the U2311H over DVI it passes and my HDTV over HDMI passes, but when using a DP with my U2311H it fails.

I am also looking forward to buy an U2311. Is it worth waiting for U2312?
Will they replace only the backlight or will they remove additional features like the great stand, etc? Or will it be priced above $300 USD?
Any guesses?

Quick question:

How inadvisable is it to have the monitor at 100 brightness? (It's only completely silent at 100 brightness, less than 95 and it buzzes, need to see if I can hear it sitting in front of it)

I'm currently thinking about buying this, but I've heard there's coming new Ultrasharps, like U2312HM,
Would it be wise to wait for it or get U2311H now?

buy u2311h

the new u2312hm can be in the market after summer but for a good review u will wait many time, and ....... the 2312hm is only a LED version of 2311h, not better as quality, is possible to be worst.

the u2311h is older but much knowed.

Hi
I am about to get a U2311H.
Is there a way to identify the Revision from the serial or the box without opening it?
Where is the Revision written?

Which is the latest revision ? A02 or A03?

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

(tl;dr below)

I'm new to the forum, and i'm not exactly that knowledgable and this is my first post: be gentle!

I need 2 screens to go with my new music production PC, and I can't decide between these two dells:

U2311h
P2411h

I am aware that the P2411h is a TN panel, and the U2311h is an IPS. I have read every page on this thread to try and get my answer, but still can't come to a conclusion.

Because i'm not going to be doing any sort of graphics, i'm wondering if the TN panel will suffice - the extra 1" screen size will really benefit and a dual screen setup, and i wonder if it might be better for normal day to day work,

I have read so so many comments on the IPS panel and backlight bleeding and the UPS glow - the UPS glow is what seems to bother me most about the u2311h, especially if it's visable under 'normal usage' (i.e google page).

Can anyone compare the u2311h vs the p2411h? I'd just like the panel to be fairly uniform from a straight-on viewing angle, I don't need any wide viewing angles. However i am wondeing is there an IPS glow equivalent on a TN panel (I have no experience).

Although my PC has a Blu-Ray drive in it, i'm unlikely to be watching movies - it's just for music production.

The other most critical and MOST important aspect of the screen (for me) is the height! I have a Mackie MCU pro which stands at 4.5" tall, and i NEED to be able to see the monitors above this without buying monitor risers (extra cost).

If sombody has either the u2311h or the p2411h I would appreciate a measurement on both pannels from the bottom of the stand (the table) to the bottom of the screen (including the bezel in the measurement) at the full height extension (cm/inches - it's all the same to me).

tl;dr: For just everyday use u2311h vs p2411h - colour not important to me, viewing angle not important. IPS glow could be an issue as one of my programms is grey backgroung and might easily see IPS glow even from frontal viewing angle.

Can someone please measureme both pannels from the bottom of the stand (the table) to the bottom of the screen (including the bezel in the measurement) at the full height extension and post result.

Thank you all for your time in reading and any extra time in any response.

Just got 3 of them. Fantastic monitors.

Still trying to decide how to arrange them for desktop work. They are sweet in all portrait, but the bezels are annoying for desktop work (vs. gaming which I dont really mind them there for). All in landscape they take up a ton of room.

Can you do me a favour and measure one of your u2311h's from the desk to the bottom of the screen (including bezel) at it's full height please?

Hi there.

Revision 03 is the latest to my knowledge. It's on the box, and also on the back of the monitor itself. You might want to fire off an e-mail to support from where you intend to buy it from to check the revision no they have in stock - they should be able to do this as it's on the box and doesn't require opening to do it.

I just received mine. On both the box and the monitor it says RV A01. Why would they send an earlier revision to me? Could this be a problem? The monitor seems fine although on an all black screen, there are minor discolorations in corners.

It really shouldn't be that big of a deal....I have three A01s and they are great.

I just got my U2311H and its Manufacture May 2011, Revision: A01
edit: been running it now for several hours and it is indeed a VERY good monitor at this point..albeit having only received it today.

How do you get sound if you want to play xbox 360 or ps3? My brother is interested in an IPS monitor but is really unsure about ghosting for FPS and fighting games. He is skeptical and he is a highly competitive player.

Got the same Rev and MFR date. No dead pixels or issues from what I can see. I think we got a good batch :D

The u2311H does not have any sound output capabilities, so you'd need to use an external component for the audio, such as a receiver + speakers.

I route the HDMI out from my consoles into an Onkyo HT receiver - sounds gets output by the speakers, and the video gets output via an HDMI-DVI cable to the u2311H. Works wonderfully for me, and I have no issue with the minimal ghosting.

Dunno about the PS3, but with the 360 you can use the av cable it came with along with the hdmi cable. So the HDMI delivers video and the AV cable delivers the sound.

They may not fit together, because the AV cable connector is pretty big, and in that case you can use something like this:

Oh wow how awesome. if anyone can please tell me how to make the ps3 hook up sound that would be nice. I am assuming its the same for the HP zr24w? Would you guys get this or the HP?

Does anyone have a clue what the difference between REV is?? I didn't find any information what is the difference between REV A02 and A03?? Are some screen issues fixed or what?? Any information would be much apreciated.
