It looks like PS3 gamers are tired of sitting around waiting for Sony to fix the PSN and have decided to trade their consoles for cash or Xbox 360s.

“In the first week of downtime we did not really see any major change in sales or trades,” says one source, a store manager at a major UK retailer speaking on condition of anonymity. “However from the second week onwards we have seen an increase of over 200 percent on PS3 consoles being traded in, split almost 50/50 between those trading for cash and those taking a 360 instead.”

I would trade for a 360, but the only reason why I am keeping my PS3 is for the blu ray. :)

You really can't blame them for being upset about it, I just hope this lowers the cost of PS3's so I can get another media box lol

A long time ago I chose an xbox over a ps3. Mostly because I thought $400 for a game console was too much. Now, I'm okay with this choicce.

I have an old Fat with full hardware backwards compatibility, thank god, else I would have to find another way to play my beloved MGS series.

Doesn't bother me really, I have several ways of watching Netflix, I haven't played Black Ops for over 3 months now, and I have little interest in the PSN network, unless there are DLC packs for games I like, or a demo I will try out, not missing it that much really.

Certainly understandable.

I won't be trading any of mine in though. I have 2 PS3's that are hardware BC and I shall not be letting them go. Also netflix does work psn or not, I stream pretty regularly. I just can't play any games online is all. Which is not too terrible all in all since I mostly play Sc2 right now.

That said, I am livid with sony over this entire thing. The "make it right" offering they have offered so far is more infuriating then anything.

Anyway why would I trade my 500GB PS3 in, for a box of fail, can't even play Blu-Ray.

call me crazy, but there seems to be a number of people out there who buy a gaming console to play video games and could care less what the platform is, or what else it can do, as long as the games they want to play are available for it.

i know. this concept has been a very difficult one to grasp for many.

Now here is where some fanboi should be piping in that even with a month's down time, at least the PSN is free.

I would but I can't since I have both PS3 and X-box, yet I still buy most online games for the box and pay the gold fee's :/

Numbers? I read in another forum that the store being quoted normally gets 1-2 PS3 trade-ins a week and now it's around 4, and that this was the ONLY store experiencing an increase in trade-ins/sales?

Funnily enough I was chatting to a mate of mine who's a manager of one of the local branches of GAME this morning and asked him about this.

He said that normally they'd get 3 or 4 PS3's in a week but in the last week they've had 15 and last week there was about 10  Sales of them are down slightly too but Xbox sales aren't really up so that may not mean much.

While I dont think the down time will cause a large percentage of PS3 owners to jump ship in will cause some people do get pissed off and switch.

And to think I actually considered gettnig a PS3 so I could have a Blu-Ray player upstairs and so I could get Mortal Kombat on it. (I prefer the PS3 controller to the XBOX 360 controller for fighting games.)

Use my PS3 for blu-rays mainly and don't have PSN so no problemo for me... :)
Can always play on the PC if i want to play online stuff.

LOL I feel bad for my brother in law who just recently sold his 360 and Wii to buy a PS3

I've got 2 RROD Xbox 360's I'll happily trade to anyone stupid enough to give me their PS3

Can play online though... :p

Ooooo, someone trying to bash the 360 just don't PWND!

Anywho, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.. console gamers are generally do want things quick and easy. Having to wait so long is probably unthinkable.

Why would you trade a reliable PS3 for an Xbos 360 which is practically guaranteed to die.

A month without PSN pales in comparison to the cumulative time people have spent sending in XBox'es for RROD repair/replacement.

Ever heard of YLOD? The people I know that actually use their PS3's have all had it and lost their PS3's. So yes electronics die regardless, may it be a PS3 or Xbox.

Out of PS3 owners I know, only 1 has had YLOD.

Out of 360 owners I know, I'm the only one who never got a RROD, and most of them have had 2 or more.

Quite a difference.

From what i'm guessing most YLOD happens from neglect and failure to clean out or reapply thermal paste when your ps3 starts sounds like a hairdryer.

And this is why we have 6 hour single player games. On line goes down for 2 weeks and people start shitting their pants.

my fat PS3 died with the red blinking light of death a couple of weeks ago. Actually I think it was the one that took down PSN :)

No PSN doesn't really both me much except no HULU:eek:

This and most of the smack that's been said about the PS3's PSN problem is hilariously hypocritical. What about the ridiculous number of Xbox owners that have had to deal with MULTIPLE RRoD's, or the constant downtime back in 2007-2008 holiday season (Modern Warfare 1 and Halo 3) on Xbox Live? You don't think that has caused people to not be able to play the games they want, when they want? Just a single RRoD could potentially be as long as the PSN downtime so far if you're unlucky. Yet somehow gamers are willing to forgive all that? At least with PSN downtime you can still play single player. With a RRoD you are out completely.

I really don't see a difference between MS and Sony. Both problems were created from sheer negligence and neither were going to deal with the problem unless it blew up in their faces, which it did.

Another source, working for an independent retailer in the South West, said he had seen a “massive increase” in the volume of PS3s traded in in recent weeks, with most exchanging for an Xbox 360. He describes those trading in their PS3s as “the hardcore online shooter crowd” – players who spend most of their gaming time playing the same game online, and who are therefore greatly impacted by the outage.

I can't believe no one caught that. "Hardcore online shooter.." L.O.L.

People that make comments about the RROD now are like Mac users talking about the BSOD. If you've bought a brand new Xbox between Mach of 09 and now most likely you'll never have that problem its only with the older systems. My son's Xbox had suffered RROD's in the past and all under warranty fixed for free usually a 10 to 14 day turn around it sucks yes but not the end of the world. Considering my investment in games 60+ retail and 20+ arcade its worth buying a new system if its dead. I also own a Wii and a PS3 and they collect dust hell my PS3 hasn't been turned on since sometime in 2010 the damn thing isn't even plugged in right now.

Thing that people dont think about when they say things like that is the PS3 may have always cost more but it comes with things that MS will nickel and dime you for.

I avoided the 360 early on because of this. When you buy a PS3 you are good to go, wifi, rechargeable wireless controller, HDD, HDMI port and blu ray all included and ready to roll. With the 360 you had no HDMI, the HD DVD was another $100, The wireless adapter was another $50, The charge kit was another $30 and the HDD another $80(?).

By the time you got it setup with what the PS3 comes with stock you have spent more than a damn PS3. Then on top of it to play online you have to pay for LIVE.

So yeah, getting the 360 is cheaper... USING it is more expensive.

I call out BOTH Sony and MS for their horrible quality control in their consoles. I don't care if 10 million 360s failed vs 2 million PS3s so you can just bury your head in the sand about the YLOD . The failure rate of the PS3 is high enough to be unacceptable, stop comparing it to the higher level of the 360 and sit pretty.

What's the use of people saying that PC gaming is "dying", when the consoles (at least early "fat" models) are LITERALLY dying? :D

Besides, these people should ideally be trading towards a gaming PC. ;)

I could understand people being upset over the databreach but if they're abandoning the platform because of a few weeks of downtime then that is the very definition of 'not having a life'. I lost more time on dead 360s than that and I had to pay for the last one.

Hell, free PSN saved people enough money to just buy a new 360 instead of trading it in. And at least they would have gotten the Slim instead of an RROD prone earlier system.

So because they have 2 out of 6 years of decent reliability the prior 4 years are just FUD?

I dont mind the PSN down time. I have been using my spare time to drink and rebuild my comp. It's fun.

There is also the dreaded cracking, popping noise issue with the PS3. I know that my slim does this and its loud. From what Ive read its the plastic expanding and retracting. Heck the first time I shut the new system down I thought a firecracker or something of that nature went off. It truely is loud. To me though in the end its Microshaft knows what there doing and rapes ya for it, Phony doesnt and gives it way for free. Pick your poison I guess, I picked both.

I already had both an Xbox 360 and a PS3. Then again I mainly use the PS3 for Blu-ray. Still I'm really upset with Sony, and the fact that they are just being such huge jerks about the whole thing...

First they don't inform us that they were compromised. Then they can't get things back online for so long... I mean who is going to really care when they do come back? The whole management team should be replaced with people who have a "clue"!!
