Sandy Bridge adopters -- post your new build.

that zalman is a good looking cooler. how have your temps been? any way to turn the fan LED off?

No way too turn the HSF light off. The pictures are a little deceiving, from exposure. The glow from the HSF isn't that bright and it's more of a light cyan color than a primary blue color like most blue LEDs.

It idles 1 degree over motherboard temp, in that case that's around 30c. Under prime95 100% on 8 cores it stays around 66c with the CPU at 4.4 ghz. I haven't tried pushing it past that.

Is that the fan spinning or the plastic guard?

very nice! try not to stare at the clock all day at work :D

p.s. the D14 is a huuuuge bitch.

I wish I had time to stare at the clock. I teach highschool students, and the semester ends on tuesday so they are all racing to get things done.

I really hope the D14 fits in my case. I did measure, and it should ... but just barely. If not ... well I guess its time to do some more case modding.

I'm running prime95 again and the temps are bouncing between 60c and 63c under full load.

Guess the AS5 broken in some.

becareful here, a 6950 might not fit in a storm scout

Well, I can now state that a 6950 will NOT fit into a Storm Scout without modification. Had to remove the 3.5 internal drive bays and also notch the bottom of the 5.25 bay.

On the plus side the Coolmaster Hyper 212+ does fit in the case with no problem... but if you use the MSI P67A-GD65 board and Corsair Vengeance 1600 ram the heatsink on the ram will hit the CPU fan in stock configuration. Had to move the fan to rear and set it to pull instead of push. :D

Here is my build so far.

Intel i5-2500K ($300 microcenter deal, cpu + board)
Asus P8P67 motherboard
16gb Corsair DDR3-1600 (free, bday gift from my friends)
Antec Dark Fleet DF-30 case ($100)
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ ($30)
LG DVD-RW ($20)

Old stuff that I'm using temporarily until I upgrade it.

Antec 430 psu (thinking about upgrading to Corsair 1000 watt psu)
40gb Kingston SSD (Flashed w/ Intel firmware for trim support) (waiting on Sata3 drives besides the Corsair SSD)
500gb WD hard drive (1tb WD Black will replace this and also planning to put 5 2tb drives in a raid5 array and adding a Raid controller)
ATI HD 4670 (not sure what I want to do, HD6970, HD6950 or 2 6850's?)

My new Sandy Bride. How I love her.

dsc04118y.jpg

Actually the only new components are:
i7 2600K
Asus P8P67 Pro
8GB G.Skill DDR3-12800

Replaced:
Core2 E6600
Asus P5B
6GB OCZ DDR2-800

Yeah, I suck at managing cables. But luckily my case has no windows.

I just got it up and running. I still need to do some cable mangement, and I may remount the heatsink. I managed to get it up to 4.7, with temps at 68-69 100% load on prime, by increasing the vcore to 1.4. I would like to hit 5. Not really sure what other settings to change.

Not much clearance between the fan on the D14 and the ripjaws.

From an i5 750 @ 4ghz + EVGA P55 LE to:

i7 2600k @ 4.2-4.5ghz + MSI P67A-GD55

Fantastic upgrade, scoring higher frames in games/benchmarks/synthetic tests -- was able to reuse memory / heatsink + sell previous cpu/mboard for a healthy amount AND have Fry's price match Microcenter on the CPU (!).

i7 2600K
Asus P8P67 WS Revolution
16Gb Corsair Vengeance

Either a Radeon 6970 or GTX 580, have both but I haven't decided which one for this system yet.

The engineer checkin on stuff.

Here is the new build - mostly a bang for the buck system (all from TD unless noted):

  • i5-2500k ($229 fr TD)
  • ASUS P8P67 Pro
  • OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) 1333
  • EVGA GTX460-SE 1GB DDR5
  • Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus cpu heatsink
  • Cooler Master HAF-912 (two 200 mm fans/LED blue in front)
  • Cooler Master RS600 SilentPro 600 watt power supply
  • OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB SSD
  • Seagate Barracuda 750 GB / 7200
  • Roccat Arvo keyboard (Ebay UK)
  • Roccat Pyra wireless mouse (Ebay UK)
  • Windows 7 Professional x64

Some things like memory might get bumped up down the road, but this should be a substantial upgrade after skipping the "tick" of the core i series.

Up and running stable at 4.579 GHz - (104.1 X 44). Runs prime with CPU @ 60C and that is with the fan mode set to silent! I'm glad I waiting for SB - great performance gain all the way around using only air.

Still waiting on my UK parts though (kbd/mouse/mat) - Grrr.

For those who are hitting 4.8-5 what are your VCCIO / VCCSA voltages ?

I am stuck on 4.7, right now, but I am also waiting for a stable bios update, for my ga-p67a-ud3p, which has PLL over voltage.

This is my Sandy Bridge build: I have it overclocked to 4.7 right now.

Default VCCIO and VCCSA for me.

I bumped mine one notch each (on the Gigabyte UD4 board) to get 4.8 stable at a lower Vcore.

does anyone have pics of a their ASUS P8P67 mobo with two cards in SLI/Crossfire? i just ordered a second GTX 460 :)D) and i'd like to see how much space there is between the cards. i can visualize it based on the PCI-E slot layout...but you know, pictures are always better :)

i7 2600K
8 gig G.Skill 1600

Currently sitting at 4.8 ghz. vcore is 1.325 with ultra high LLC (second to highest level).

I set my VCCIO/VCCSA to 1.00/.900. I've also set my PLL to 1.65v, apparently undervolting ot helps with temps but doesn't mess with stability?

EDIT:
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge
CORSAIR A70 heatsink
ASUS P8P67 PRO
Patriot Viper (2x 2GB, 8-8-8-20 @ 1333) (From old rig)
HIS Radeon 4870 (From old rig)
750TX Corsair PSU (From old rig)
Antec 1200 (From old rig)
160 GB WD, 1 TB WD, Seagate 300 GB, 2 TB Samsung (From old rig)

This was mostly an upgrade of necessity, as my girlfriend's mom desperately needed a new computer. Figured I'd get a nice new Sandy bridge for my trouble. :D

Check the sig for new build. Loving it a lot now that I've settled in. Very smooth general computing experience and it completely owns all games at 1080 which is all I need for now. Although still some loading hitches in certain games which is probably down to not using the SSD for game installations. Have not had much chance to put the SSD through its paces. Have to say, not real impressed with boot speed. Everything is still stock speed.

Going from a Pentium D 805 @ 3.8Ghz to this.... its like 10 times faster... its insane
