There is a spy photo making the rounds of what is supposed to be a new dual-GPU Radeon from PowerColor.

An unnamed, undressed dual-GPU prototype of AMD's latest in southern-island graphics cards surfaced over the weekend. Flaunting twin Bart chips with 1,120 stream processors a pop, this card totals up at 2,240, with each GPU packing its own memory for a total of 2GB of GDDR5

Reminds me of the 460 2 win, 2 midrange cards sandwiched together on one pcb. I hope this becomes a habit, as it makes for an appealing value.

Why was it the first thing that came to my mind was from Bruce Bigalow: That's a huuuge bitch!" Apparently, others thought something similar....

So, is PowerColor that only ones going to make this card? It is listed in some of the Catatlyst driver infs as a 6890.

It seems as though this will slot in between the 6970 and the 6990.

Indeed sir, indeed. Let me pour a bit of my coffee on the ground for the homies that ain't with us no more... :(

LOL, poured some as well! Thanks for the laugh and yeah who wouldn't miss 3dfx...Voodoo 2 SLI FTW!

Me likey, most likely a revision to the existion 6990 or an addition to the AMD line.

The card is just too big. If they'd put memory, the bridge and other low-profile components on the back (top side) of the card, they could squeeze the GPUs and bulky power components closer together.

Im confused... what chips is it using?

How is it different than the 6990?

Probably a dual version of the lower tier cards like a 6870x2.
Interesting we're getting stuff like this more and more. Don't know if people will actually buy it though

The inner nerd is slightly tickled as long as the price is right. Though I am considering a 6990.

1,120? So it's dual 6870s?

I never get why card makers are so secretive about appearances..90% of the time it just ends up being a in a 2 slot box that look like the other 2 slot boxes. All the PCBs look pretty much alike too, unless they are a fancy color... :p Like purple!

It's always baffled me why they don't do this. Probably violates some standard or something, but it just makes sense to make better use of the backplane area. My old Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack! Ultra/750-8X XP Golden Sample had half of its memeory on the backplane with heatsinks, so it's not like it can't be done.

Now if they can do that and then make the ducting slightly lower profile, even if just around the fan area, it would help with the current problem of choked airflow between cards in xfire/sli.

It's Rob Schneider; who the fuck cares?

Corrected it for ya, kid. Now, where did Bruce come from? If I start leaving my keys in the fridge and buying huge ass cards like this for $700+ dollars, then I am really getting old and insane.

If I put that in my 486 DX2 PC, I'd have to remove the 2X CD-ROM drive and 3.5-inch floppy drive to make space. lol

:p

Hell...you'd have to cut a slot in your steal beige-colored case, probably having to remove the internal 2lb PC Speaker. :D

WOW,that 3D 2000 is loooooong.I actually still have a voodoo 2 card in my collection of computer history. The dual GPU card looks sweet, but I couldn't justify the cost of one, yet.
