Now that the white iPhone 4 is available, it would stand to reason that we should be seeing genuine white OEM digitizer assemblies, back covers and Home buttons available in various channels fairly soon. The question I have is: Where could I begin looking to acquire these parts and does anyone know if a simple conversion to a black iPhone to white iPhone is feasible at this point? There have been apparent changes to the proximity sensor but what I don't know yet is whether these changes are trivial to doing a swap or substantial enough to prevent a simple swap job being feasible.

Any info would be appreciated.

I like using Amazon for iPhone parts.

I don't know details about the sensor, but I'd guess that any changes that may have occurred were only with it and not its placement in the casing or connection to the logic board.

I've heard that the white iPhone is slightly larger than the black one, which would make me think that such a conversion would be difficult.

According to what I've read, the white iPhone is 0.02 mm thicker than the black iPhone. And from what I've heard, the difference in thickness is due to the white needing more coats in order to actually look and retain the white.

With that being said, I wouldn't anticipate the thickness being a roadblock for what Phide is wanting to do. Please note that I cannot speak to the proximity sensor issue, I am simply speaking towards the thickness of the white iPhone.

White uses a different camera as well, you already mentioned change to proximity sensor, might even be different calibration data in firmware for light sensor. The case is much brighter and light may reflect differently near these optical devices.

Just thinking out loud, have no clue if any real performance degradation would be noticed.
