cooler for 1gb 6950 ?

I have an XFX 6950 1gb. I would like to purchase an aftermarket cooler for it. I have no idea what will and what will not fit on this card and the googles is not being very helpful too.

What will fit on the card ?

The Zalman vf3000A is a great fit, but you could use any aftermarket cooler compatible with the 6870, as your card uses the same pcb.

That Zalman Cooler looks really really good!!! But honestly, spending $50 on a GPU cooler is not practical IMO. What's wrong with your XFX 6950 temps anyway?

same pcb as 6870 ? thought it was the same pcb as the 6950 [ 6970 except with less memory ?

nothing is wrong with temperatures, I just want it to be quieter.

you might want to check arctic for anything, as long as your card is reference they will have a good, quiet product

Pretty sure there is no such thing as a reference 6950 1gb

I absolutely recommend the XFX version with dual fans. I have one myself. I pretty much never hear it - idle or load.

Oh and... I used to own an XFX 5830 with the VF3000A, so I know what low temps and quiet means.

Yeah its the 6870 pcb. I have two Saphire 6950 2gb rev2 (11188-00-40r) and their design its the same. Futhermore the new Xtreme version of the 5850 also uses the 6870 pcb.

The best aftermarket cooler for a HD6950 is the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus. It's a 3-slot solution, so make your measurements... It's also quite expensive and needs a specific adapter for the VGA, the VR001, to purchase apart. But if you want the best out there, it's your guy!
Other valid options come from Thermalright: the Shaman and the T-Rad2 GTX have been used with good results. These are also 3-4 slots solutions...
If you want a 2-slot setting, for CrossfireX or for case/MoBo limitations, the Scythe Setsugen 2 is your best call.
I own a XFX HD6950 2GB, flashed to 6970, in a MINI-ITX case, thus the Setsugen 2 was my only possibility. Very satisfied with that! Silent and powerful. I'm describing my experience in this thread.

I was talking about the one with dual fans. From what I have read it makes a huge difference.

ended up getting the gelid icy vision. so far, so good. 45 idle with the fan on a fan controller.
