Amazon 20GB cloud service 69 cents for the year PRICE ERROR?

LOL - Amazon are genious's.
Get tons of folks to buy in on $1/per GB, suck all their files up there and raise the price every year.

And the record labels are already attacking Amazon for this. I wonder what the outcome will be... either way, I now have 20gb of storage for streaming mp3s. :)

You give us the right to access, retain, use and disclose your account information and Your Files

Blatantly illegal rubbish. Wouldn't stand up in any court.

I agree. For example, if you put some proprietary device information, program, etc., in your cloud and they decided to "use" it for their own purposes, consider yourself a very wealthy person.

Cause you can sue the hell out of them.

A note on upload speed: my speeds were all over the place. Took 20 minutes for a single album, and even then the metadata came out wrong for 2 out of 13 tracks.

disclosure statement for Amazon Cloud Drive:

You give us the right to access, retain, use and disclose your account information and Your Files

We may also restrict your access to the Service if we determine that your use of the Service violates this Agreement or substantially exceeds normal use by other users

In other words, True Crypt is your friend when using the Amazon Cloud Drive

UUGGGHHHH. That means the hassle of encrypting/decrypting individual files? Unless True Crypt integrates with amazon cloud software somehow.....

That's well after the fact. And, I don't think it's that clear cut. Because they're stating this as terms of the agreement, then you have no expectation of privacy, secrecy, etc. So if you upload nude photos of yourself and they end up on NudePhotosOfMatrices.com, you've really got no case against them.

Companies are well protected against law suits anyway - it's not easy to sue them and not easy to succeed, EVEN IF you have a good case, which this is not.

I would think there is some reasonable use expectations; for Amazon to monitor the files to insure stability of servers, capacity management, even marketing and other intrusive things. But to actually do as you say and take possession of individual's files and use their inherent value (such as aforementioned proprietary business documents, etc) for their own profit should stand up fairly well.

But of course, in the court of law, "should" is pretty damn broad.

Lol, I bet that Intel, Rim, Apple, Microsoft, and ATT might disagree with you sir!

It takes a crapload of money to fight them. Not that people don't try when there's a crapload of money at stake. But are you willing to throw $50k at lawyers to sue amazon, knowing they have a $50m legal team? Maybe pro-bono, but even then you'll get a minority share of the proceeds.

That's why America is such a litigious place. It's easier to sue someone when their pockets are very deep. There would be no shortage of lawyers waiting to dive on that case.

LOL you don't even need to buy anything. I clicked on something random, and I got an error saying order failed. And was like "whatever", then got an email about 20GB of space, LOL. Double checked account and I never actually bought any music.

Is there a file size/type limit. I have a bunch of tax stuff etc. in encrypted virtual drives of about 1 Gb. Can I upload those?

Yep, Amazon's cloud drive isn't only for music. In fact once you activate your free 5GB of space they have a directory structure very similar to Google Doc's. Default folders include Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos and individual file size can be up to 2GB in size. Not only do I use it to play my library on the go (with Amazon MP3 player for Android), but also use it to xfer files between machines.

I'm sure someone already answered the question, but I figured I'd add my $0.02. =)

Google and Amazon ostensibly intend on taking Apple's market with Amazon Cloud + Android. In most ways, it seems to be capable of becoming a superior platform and media conduit.

May want to invest your cash now..
