There is a Radio Shack in Montana handing out free guns to customers that sign up for Dish Network. Seriously.

According to Strand, it has tripled his business since the promotion started last October. And, he said, easily hundreds of people have stopped in to see what the sign is all about. "Protect yourself with Dish Network. Sign up now, get free gun," the sign reads. "We have people literally stop in to take pictures of the sign," Levy said.

Guns in the hands of satellite tv owners: bad

Guns in the hands of radioshack customers: really bad.

Wow! Thank god this does not happen in civilised countries! Simply breathtaking!

How's the violent crime rate in these "civilized countries"? What counties did you have in mind?

This is pretty laughable though. As pro gun as I am...a free gun for a satellite purchase. Um...random disconnect?

Nice value, though. You can flip and sell that gun right away if nothing else.

lol Highpoint .380 worth about $135 and you are more likely to club someone with it then shoot them

There's a car dealership about an hour from here that has run a promotion a couple of times: buy a new truck, get an AK-47!

Made national news, so mission accomplished in getting more attention!

I'll be honest, I checked to see what my trade-in would be worth and if they had anything I'd want...!

they still have to pass all the background checks and local/federal/state laws, it is not like criminals can just sign up for a dish and bypass gun laws. Good idea, too bad it is for a crap ass hi-point

not a big fan of them (I refer to them as birth control versions) but that is hardly fair. they actually shoot pretty damn good. they just LOOK like junk.

that said its nice to see a deal like this going.

QFT, That hi-point .380 is about the most miserable excuse for a gun you can buy. Its cheap, heavy, unreliable and bulky. I would take the 20ga any day.

I agree on both points. A sufficiently even distribution of arms is a net negative for tyrants and criminals.

I don't know if I agree with that last part, but it definitely wouldn't hurt. It's not like firearms are magical devices that compel people to murder each other.

Love this quote:

"We're not just giving guns to felons," Levy said.

...even the insane get them too!

Its amazing how many people cant comprehend this...

At least I can spell civilized in my civilized country of the USA.

Hehehe, yeah that's right. I forgot you yank's couldn't get your heads around proper English spelling, and had to simplify it. I guess the simplification must go deeper than spelling?

In other news: Dish Network now offers free NASCAR network to appease its legions of gun-toting subscribers.

lol@ some of the responses in this thread.

It's a coupon for a gun from a gun store. You still have to go to the licensed dealer and fill out the paperwork and do the background check.

Playing devils advocate here, but regardless of what people say, among my collection of stuff i do have a hi point in 9mm as well as a carbine, never had any issues with them. They're well known to be reliable weapons on the cheap, but with a ton of hate following them, probably because of the common attitude "I spent twice as much, i must have twice the gun", which isn't always the case. Not to mention, they are a company that stands behind their product, their lifetime warranty is transferable, and no questions asked, even with modification to the weapon. Would i have ti as a carry weapon? Personally no, because it would be quite heavy and is relatively large to carry concealed. The carbine is an entirely different story than the handguns though, the hi-point carbine (the latest revision, with the ugly but quite ergonomic stock) shoots quite well and i've yet to see anything come close to matching it's performance for the price.

Except that the .380ACP in modern loadings is more comparable for self defense. I am guessing the 20ga is a NEF or similar single loader.

Highpoint, may be ugly, but some people cant afford pretty. At least they go bang each time you pull the trigger.

oh come on, im all for the right to own guns but trying to imply some slippery slope into tyranny is silly and only makes it easier for some to dismiss gun proponents as Waco loonies

CANADA :D

But bring your internet bandwidth with you ...

As the owner of several firearms I had to lol at some of the responses here. My guns haven't compelled me to commit any crimes, and they only fire when commanded to. They don't "go off" accidentally. Call me uncivilized and well... I guess I can't help but laugh at you. I'm sure criminals would be civilized if they broke into your house at 2 AM and the cops are 5-10 minutes away...

Oh, NOW you've done it. Stay low, Brother Duncan. They have guns and will be able to out-tweet us when the water runs out.

Hi-points are what my SA1911 eats for breakfast. At least with the car salesman who's been doing this for years you get a WASR10 or some other junk AK. I'd rather get that any day over a shit hi-poin.
