Legit Reviews has posted a review of ASRock's Core 100HT HTPC today. I know most of you build your own Home Theater PCs but if you are shopping for an off-the-shelf unit, you might want to read this first.

The ASRock Core 100HT HTPC offers a well rounded home theater experience for those who do not need or want a beast of a PC running 24/7. Many users run their HTPC non-stop and having low power consumption keeps money in the bank. The ASRock Core 100HT uses less power at idle than two 13W CFL energy efficient lightbulbs! As far as performance goes, the ASRock Core 100HT is a more robust system for playing HD content than most nettop platforms such as the Intel Atom platform or the AMD Fusion APU platform if you plan on running any tasks in the background like ripping DVDs or Blu-Rays or even re-encoding video content.

Since the price at the egg has DROPPED to $580...
I don't think so. I can do better and cheaper on my own.

No Slot for a TV Tuner, and no room to add a 3.5" 2TB drive. aGood CPU, but too small and to limited.

I am beginning to dislike HTPC reviews with only Windows being reviewed. There are tons of great Media Center applications, like Xbmc, Mythtv and more. These reviews really don't mention anything about linux compatibility and performance. If you really want a cheap yet effective one, the Zotac Zbox barebone at newegg, especially since they run a deal that includes a free HD and RAM for it, every month or so. Add XBMC live, and your good to go.

did I miss it, or did they now mention sound (fans), heat or size of the unit?

Don't need my HTPC to do anything other than play media. My current box is only as 'beefy' as it is because I occasionally like to play things on the big screen. Next wave of HTPCs will be as small and low powered as possible with smooth playback. Ripping and burning is work for a workstation/server box, not an HTPC.

My next HTPC might include an i5 or equivalent, the 4850e is getting really long in the tooth and over all I wasn't very impressed with the performance when I got it 2 years ago. My bitching really isn't warrented since the processor was only $35 at the time from the egg.

About the ASRock HTPC mini guys. Those things do rock, but not for that price, they don't need to be that small if thats what is rocketing up the price, the coolness factor however does go up. Its easy enough to hide a well made, low powered HTPC and hide it easy enough with out going to these extremes and have HDD upgrade availability too.

Nice size, bad price as one must purchase an OS and Blu-Ray software (100HT-BD).

Since they compared to the E-350 Zactate platform for a couple of processing benchmarks, it would have comprehensive to compare heat, power and noise tot eh Zactate also. I am still contemplating a E-350 build for bedroom with slim Blu-Ray optical using Habey 800 enclosure. Another data point.
