Hey guys, I had picked up a 32 gig wifi version and i cant, for the life of me, get it to stay connected to my wireless network.

5 minutes it works, then 5 minutes later its stops working till I reboot the network settings on the ipad, then it works again. When its not working, its still showing full bars, connected to wifi. I changed all my router settings accordingly and have 7 + items connected wirelessly that have and continue to run flawlessy for over 2 years now.

xbox 360/ps3/netflix 3d tv samsung downstairs/laptops , you name it. Not a single problem on my 50mb/s connection. I have tried everything and I feel like im not getting $600 worth out of it. Apprently im not the only one with these issues. What gives? Is this problem that every ipad 2 owner is having ?

The only network problem I’ve had with iOS 4.3 specifically is that since my router supports IPv6, it added an IPv6 DNS address to its wireless profile. Once I deleted the IPv6 DNS address, everything worked fine.

Had the same problem with a MBA. Unchecked the IPv6 box on the MBA and all is well. However, you can't do the same to an iPod so I still have that issue. I just turn off wifi on the iPod and then back to on and it works.

Wrath, i could easily do that too but its just that you spend frickin $650+ and it does this fucking shit? Its supposed to work properly. You shouldnt have to turn it off and on to make it work. Should be working flawlessy 24/7. Well, i just ended up doing an exchange with a black 32gig right now since i cant return it. I dunno :/

Terpfen, i have a belkin router. If i disable that option, this problem will go away?

Just go into your wifi profile on the iPad and delete the IPv6 DNS address. That should do the trick without needing to disable IPv6 on your router.

I dont see that option at all in the ipad network settings :/

Settings -> WiFi -> click the blue button next to the WiFi network you’re currently connected to. Look for the DNS entry. If you’re using IPv6 and IPv4, there’ll be two addresses listed under DNS. Delete the IPv6 entry manually. It’ll look like some crazy hexadecimal number, like 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334.

If your router isn’t using IPv6, it won’t assign an IPv6 DNS address to the iPad, and so your problem is something separate.

Thanks for you're help man. I dont know the difference between IPv6 and IPv4 but im looking where you're telling me to look and im seeing 2 addresses side by side. They are the same.

192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.1 ( same numbers side by side seperated by a comma)

delete both ?

Just delete one. Both of those are IPv4 addresses. Weird that it would double-list the same DNS.

I've had mine since the day it came out and it work perfectly. I use it at home, at work, and at one of my local McDonalds.

Thank you for you're help, greatly appreciated. I'll delete one of em right now and report back by the end of tonight and let you know whats up.

Thanks again!

You should see immediate improvement if the double-listed DNS IPs actually caused any problems.

Still have the prob. Shit..........

I turn wifi off and turn it back on and it works. But who knows how long it'll last now.

Troubleshooting step #2 would be to set up a static IP on the router for your iPad.

This is the same thing that was happening to my 3GS, I had to restore as a new phone to get it to stay connected to my wifi.

I would love to do this if I knew how lol.

I wont be doing that though because this is my 2nd ipad 2 and its the same exact issue I was having with my original earlier today. This ipad 2 i have now is like 6 hours old lol. Same god damn issue. FCK.

Obv its your router thats the issue seeing as 2 different iPads have the same issue on your network.

Best way to test is try it either on a friends network or local mcdonalds/starbucks/apple store/etc.

Also what model/brand router is it? Updated firmware?

Use my iPad 2 with a linksys with tomato firmware (home), a dlink (work), and a trendnet (g/f's apt) routers just fine and all fairly regularly.

The easy solution is to set the IP of your iPad manually(On your iPad).

Use the following settings:
Gateway 192.168.2.1
DNS 192.168.2.1
IP: 192.168.2.69 (If your current IP is 192.168.2.100-254, otherwise use something above 100, below 255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

The real problem lies with your router and the iPad having some sort of incompatibility.

I’d love to tell you, but the process is specific to each router, since their interfaces are different.

Thanks anyways man, appreciate you're help.

It works fine out but I dont stay there long enough to see the problem arise. Im seein this issue on the forums too, cant seem to find a legit fix. It shows you have full connetion and are connected to the wifi network of choice but nothing internet related works.

The router is a Belkin:

http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=459640

Its that model right there and its currently on the latest firmware per the router login page.

I will look into this too, thank you all. Im just happy its not only me that this is happening too. I usually have pretty shitty luck lol.

Upgrade your router to a dual channel job and spend $100+. I recommend one of the later models by Netgear. I have the 3700 but it is starting to get a bit older.

If you're referring to the WNDR3700 (Rev 1) router, this is still one of the best (if not the best) consumer routers compared to even the newer models that have just come out. I wouldn't say it is "old" at all, especially when you can find benchmarks with it performing better than recently release Linksys or the Rev 2 of the WNDR3700.

Thanks for the info. I'm not in the market for an upgrade yet, but when I heard of the new model I just assumed it had bested the rev 1 version. Maybe the OP can benefit from the info and get his iPad 2 working 24/7.

Unfortunately I won't be able to tell you myself until mine ships on April 1st.

been using my iPad2 for almost a week now and never had a single WiFi problem. Hope you fix your soon. Try buying a cheap router from Crap Buy (best buy) and see if still doing the same thing. Good luck OP.

It does this because it uses a primary DNS server and a secondary DNS server, because his router is handling DNS, it uses one IP.

Try changing your DNS server to an external one like 4.2.2.2 and see if that fixes the problem.

Just FYI. I had to return my first gen Ipad THREE times till i got one that always kept the wifi signal. Never had a problem after that.

OP,

I'd first try setting your IP address manually as instructed in a previous post. That should do the trick as long as your are 1) within the right group of numbers and 2) don't pick an IP already in use. Pick the last 3 digits as something in the fairly high one-hundreds.

Another option might be to buy a router at Best Buy and see if it fixes the issue. If it does then you know it's your router. At which point you could either keep or return the newer router but either way you have diagnosed the issue. If it doesn't resolve the issue then you should return the iPad2 again and get yet another one.

I don't think Belkin makes great products, especially their networking stuff so it may be worth considering an upgraded router anyhow.

If all else fails, exchange the iPad again and resell it on eBay. Given the shortages out there currently you could probably get near retail especially from the idiots on eBay :)

Thanks for the info guys, I will do that. Worse come to worse, I have a 90 day exchange policy with my receipt next to me, Ill go change it out for another. I will try to figure this shit out by the end of this week, just been kinda busy.

EDIT: Guess it was only a matter of time till it ended up on engadget ???

EDIT 2:

On apple's own forum, that fastbike guy has pretty much hit it dead on right ? on page 9 and 10.

Hey guys, the people who are saying manually set the ip. I do it directly on the ipad or from the router ?

Because once my network is seleted this is my layout.

DHCP -------------- BootP ------------------------- Static

Both bootp and DHCP show the same settings and all it allows me to change is the DNS option on both those categories, it doesnt allow me to change anything else like the ip.

ONLY on the static section is everything blank and i can adjust whatever I want. What should I be doing now ?

Thanks again,

Arbi

I came to the thread to post the engadget link as well. At least you know you arn't the only one out there having this issues.

Very interesting. One would think that iPad 1 owners running 4.3 would be affected by this as well, but apparently that isn't the case (or is it?)

Possibility A: iPad 2 sucks.
Possibility B: Your router or its configuration sucks.

Ended up selling it yesterday for $700. Will pick one up again when this horseshit is sorted out.
