Rift: Planes of Telara... looking good! (MMORPG)

Anyone else an artifact junkie like me? I can't seem to stop roaming around looking for them. I'd be higher level by now but can't stop looking for dang artifacts.

Quick question, are there any large, heavily populated, major cities in the game?

As a newbie I'm really not sure, but it seems Meridian is the big place to chill for defiants. Guessing that the guardians get their own neat place.

So now that its been out for a month or so, what do you guys think about its chance to be a real contender vs. WoW?

im guessing none. I didnt think the beta was bad or nething, but not compelling. I have seen a few guildies playing rift, but back on WoW.

No. WoW will always have it's fan base until something bigger and better comes along. Rift is a WoW clone with borrowed ideas from a few other MMO's. Thus the people playing Rift are the type that are sick and tired of WoW like me.

I cancelled my sub until they figure out a better method for dealing with afkers in Warfronts. Warfronts are my end game, and having afkers just killed it for me. Especially when there are 2 guys in full Prestige 2 epics afk and we lose 980 - 1000. Over and over again...

I like the PVE in the game, but I had a tendency to fall asleep in raids during the 45 minute explanation phase when I played WoW. :) So Warfronts were going to be my fun in this game. Oh well maybe GW2 will satisfy me.

Guess I'll go back to playing BF:BC2 in the meanwhile, as I have no desire to fire up WoW again.

The server pops are still high, but no queues. Real test is in a few weeks when the free 30 days ends, April 4th I think. Then we will see who continues their subs.

As for a contender against WoW, not likely. WoW has a 12 million user base.

Basically, like has been stated few times already, if you like WoW but are bored, chances are you will like Rift. I am enjoying it, but my laptop is not quite up to the task when there are 40+ people going nuts...

Personally I have seen many wow guilds fall apart and go to rift. I've spoken with my buddies and coworkers on other servers, one in a high end raiding guild(who ghostcrawler is a member of) who have said the same thing.

I think people are just plain bored with wow. I know that's why I quit.

WoW will get some of these people coming back simply because they don't want to learn a new game. And they have so much time invested into wow that it's hard to walk away from that and learn a new game. Even one that is so similar.

I don't think any game has a chance of competing with WoW in terms of subscriptions. WoW is an anomaly. Very much so. Rift will do fine, but will not have the huge player base WoW has. I don't think 250k-350k is out of reach for Trion. But I would be surprised to see more than that long term.

I cancelled my WoW sub yesterday and plan on staying with Rift until the new SW MMO comes out and actually delivers. Right now, I like Rift and will stay here until something better comes along. Although I don't think a lot of people will stay, as I have seen a fair amount of our server already die out, with the most commonly used complaint being too many skills/buttons, (which is why I like it btw). I think the game is intimidating to the people who like to spam a single/dual dps combo ftw.

It's funny, people always complained that WoW had too few skills.

It feels about right to me, some skills are not used while questing/grinding. More that for that Oh snap PvP moment when someone 4 levels above you jumps you. (<3 my Warden...almost unkillable one on one.)

I agree there are a few too many skills, but honestly, too many is probably better than too few. I find theres a good amount that I just don't need/use, or have limited use. The bread-and-butter skills for each class are usually a good number.

Between sent/warden I have alot of healing spells. I use alot of them but some are case by case use.

I have been playing this game for about 3 weeks now and I like it. The pvp is fun and the class system is what really got me. Being able to tank as a rogue and support heal then also dps is just amazing. Lvling is not horrible because you get good amount of exp for the Warfront pvp and Rift invasion give you blues/epics and mass amount of EXP. Its a good looking game and fun for now :) . I play on Deepstrike and there is a queue after 9PM EST which sucks :(. If anyone wants to join my guild hit me up Puffyjay on Deepstrike Defiance side :). See you on the WF!

I picked this up on the weekend and so far am having a blast. The environments I've been in so far are detailed and filled with life that I haven't encountered in an MMO to date. Works hassle free with eyefinity and with slight adjustment plays well @ 5760X1080 on mostly high/max graphics on my single 6950 2GB.

Yeah, the game looks amazing I love the gfx and rifts look insane. Its really fun to run around with friends and closing rifts / killing the other faction. All the classes make it so much better, was a good move to quit WOW and play RIFT!

I'll find you and shank you! Guardian on Deekstrike...slowly leveling, 36 Cleric named Nasana. About to head into Droughtlands. Though I may pvp and dungeon for a bit to hit 38 before moving on.

I will be on the look out. I play a War so GL killing me 1v1 :) .

Actually the only two classes to give me a hard time, Druid/Shaman clerics and Rogues (Bard and Not sure of rest of souls). Other classes and soul combos within 4 levels have been pretty easy.

Seriously though, I'd probably let another warden finish the gank as I don't really want to spend 20 minutes killing a Warden. I generally level as an Inq/Cab/Sent. If I get ganked more than once in a short time span, I switch to War/Sent/Pur and basically am unkillable 1v1. (I've also lived through 2v1 ganks as a W/S/P but they sucked and didn't coordinate CC)

I'll just say that right now warriors are so grossly overpowered it is a crime. My reaver/paladin/riftstalker build is a beast in pvp, both warfronts and open world. If I switch to void knight anything with mana is generally dead just as fast. Champion builds are for sissies. My best open world kill came the other night. 4 vs 1 and I walked away with 20% life left an still had my 100% insta heal left. The more foes around me the better I like it.

I'm sure they'll nerf my dots and life healed from them soon but certain warrior builds just can't be killed 1 on 1 no matter the class or soul spec.

Is that 100% heal a reaver talent?

Only warrior I lost to, I was in my leveling spec at half HP, 2/3rds mana and he was 5 levels above. I did make him use his 100% heal...Either I am better than than many folks out there or the players that have tried to gank me are terribad.

It's a Paladin talent.

Level 50 warriors wreck face, especially Champions. I could see some Clerics going toe to toe, but they just output too much DPS.

They wreck face, but currently they wreck more face than they should due to some bigtime bugs.

Firstly, Shifting Blades(out of the Paragon) tree shouldn't be proccing from a 2H weapon. That adds a ton of dps right there. Additionally, there's an armor penetration bug coming out of the Paragon tree, and lastly, Path of the Wind, obviously being created for dual wielding, is proccing way too high damage numbers @ range.

Trion needs to knock the bugs out, and then we can look @ how great Champs really are(don't get me wrong, they are beasts, but the bugs are really throwing them way out of whack right now)

Until last night I had given up on fighting Champions in Warfronts especially Port of Scion. Then I specced Archon and debuffed the inhuman wrecking ball that was soloing our whole team at once with his pocket healer. When his health suddenly dropped to 25% instead of his usual 90% when 5 of us were attacking him, he just paused. Then tried to run but it was too late.

I spent the rest of the night with my "/tar OPWarrior" macro spamming debuffs on them. Sure if they got to me I was toast, but so were they! The unkillable clerics weren't so OP either after I debuffed them.

Archon ftw!

Finally pulled the trigger and bought Rift on steam. Digital collectors edition. If it's any good my wife will join me and we'll play together.

Making my Defiant characters on Corantha.

Looking at a rogue build of riftstalker, bard and nightblade
Mage as Archon, Cholormancer and not sure what else
Not sure what to level as for cleric, maybe a justicar, shaman and druid
no idea about warriors, maybe riftblade, reaver and paladin?

What are the pet classes in the game? From some quick reading, beastmaster, Ranger, Necro is what I gather. Druids have Fae spirits? I assume elementalists can summon elementals?

I've been hearing Archon's are pretty good in the right hands.

I've also heard that clerics don't scale as well at 50 and other classes take over. I am still enjoying my bit of OPness while leveling. (only 36)

Nice another name to look for while im in Droughtlands. :D

Level 50 cleric here on RP-PVE Faeblight, really enjoying the game and pretty deep in T2 right now with my group, anyone else here play on Faeblight?

I started a character there briefly (wanted to try out a RP server, PVP isn't really my thing, picked that one randomly) but I got in to the first areas and people had stupid names like Supercoolguy and Demonprincess and shit, and I determined that whatever idiots like that might believe RP was, I wanted nothing to do with it. Are you surrounded by retards, or is it just early game? I just went back to Greenscale where all my "normal" PVE characters are. There at least if someone has a dumb name I don't have to pretend they're "real."

Come get some! :p

Unless your 50 :D What is your toon name? Though good luck finding me. I play pretty casually. Between work, soccer, girlfriend aggro, etc...I play 4 to 8 hours a week at random times.

Better to quest to level over all I imagine? Grinding after like level 6 seems an exercise in futility -- not that I'm exactly complaining, grinding bores me. That said, I prefer to be massively overpowered at all times; if I'm not damn near one-hitting things, it's a bad day, so the inability to level without questing (to get over the recommended level for the quest) frustrates me. I've been doing more Rift event stuff, but I'm more of a loaner, don't like relying on other (often stupid) people. Healers that let me die when they have full mana, warriors that don't aggro things and keep the pain off my mage, mages that run away when I'm about to die with my warrior rather than helping kill the stuff around me, people that run off and mine in the middle of doing a rift, etc. Lots of stupid people.

Its not going to compete with wow but i think it has staying power that all the other WoW clones lacked. It wont be posting record numbers 3 months from now but i think the community should remain healthy.

This is the BEST option for WoW burnouts.

For me its always grind quests unless a rift is near then i do that and then back to questing.

Well I play on guardian side and not sure what the low level areas are like now but when the game launched I had no issues at all with them everyone was very helpful too. As for where I am now playing with 50’s everyone here is very supportive and no retards that I play with but Iam sure they are out there (every server will have some) the community here has been great and lots of folks (older too) since original EQ1 days.

I know before the head start launched it was labeled as the Old School server so you defiantly have people here with lots of experience oh and the RP part I think I only see about 1% of it which is cool opens it up more and no one is forced to RP either, btw loving the end game stuff atm like for example every dungeon will have an expert mode at 50 which extra bosses are added and story line changes as well :)

I'm on Faeblight with my girlfriend. Have a 39 mage, 33 rogue, 26 cleric, and a 20 warrior. Although I haven't played much lately because I'm waiting for my girlfriend's compromised account to be fixed so we can play together. Hopefully it's fixed soon.
