Newegg has the P3 Killawatt on sale for $16.99 and is running a free shipping code (EMCKHHF92) in their 72 Hour event. If you select the 3day UPS it still works even though it defaults to egg saver :D. Havent used one personally but I've heard great things about these so I thought I'd share.

I won't have to keep borrowing one now :D Really useful to see how much folding is *really* costing you.. haha.

finally broke down and ordered one...

Haha, I have had one for a while. I use it to make sure the builds are in a good range for the psu's I put in them. That way the person doesn't come back with a crazy look on their face after it pops and blows smoke.

i want one just for the geek factor...but i feel like the money it could save me is probably less than 17$ :D

I have one of these and have used the EZ version as well and would recommend the EZ over the vanilla Kill-a-watt. It can track kWh and apply price/kWh to tell you how much something costs to run, plus it's a bit slicker looking and the button mappings are a bit more useful IMO.

Had one for a long time, hooked it up to my reef aquarium just to see how hurtful it is ... singed the plug it was drawing so much juice!

TED is a nice one to try too, however it's MUCHO expensive compared to this.

Damn now I will have to go check my fish tanks...

The EZ version allows you to see power draw over time even when the device is off. This is much more useful when calculating usage per month, for things like the Water Heater, Refrigerator, Laundry etc, where power usage isn't constant.

in for 1

was sad when i missed this last time. can't wait to see what my panny plasma draws

im trying to buy one, but the newegg paypal link is coming up unencrypted. anyone else?

This may sound REALLY random but I found this for 7 dollars cheaper at Bed Bath and Beyond....

It was on sale (from 39.99) to 19.99... Then clearance for 50% off... total 9.99 out the door (well plus tax) ; ) And "freest" shipping lol...

YMMV I picked up the last one in my store... check yours out!

I bought this a few years ago and it's a pretty useful and entertaining toy. $16 is a hot price. It's also on SD's front page.

so my calculations must be off ... google shows dominion power roughly 3 cents per kwh. if my little fan is running at 30 kwh it costs me 90 cents per hour to run the fan?

Are you sure you got the units right? What is the real-time power usage of your fan?

Nah, your units are off. Remember that kWh is a unit of energy; that is, a device consumes 1 kilowatt for an hour. Not sure what type of fan you have, but it is probably a 12V fan at 1A or so. So thats 12 watts, or 0.012 kW. So to run your fan for an hour, that means 0.012 kWh*3 cents, or 0.036 cents. I doubt your power is 3 cents per kWh though (sounds low), then again I live in CA where power is expensive.

I have one of these things plugged into the outlet that powers most of my HTS. (DLP HDTV, A/V receiver, DVD player, and HTPC; the sub goes to another outlet.) I checked it the other day and it shows over 50 kW-hr. in over 5 weeks of usage. Therefore, if I pay an avg. of 14 cents/kW-hr. (taking account of fees, etc.), it costs me a little over a buck a week to power my HTS. Nifty to know.

One of these days, I'll relocate it to my fridge outlet to see how much that sucker is costing me (not that I could do anything about it). I also got a new HTS for my bedroom and have been meaning to measure it.

Have seen them around this price before but it's worth buying. Can really give you some useful info on your devices around the house.

The free shipping code doesnt work for me and I am signed up for the newsletter, any suggestions on how to get free ship?
