better deal for < $350

What resolution?
The GTX480 is just a plain terrible idea. GTX570s are cheaper, brand new as opposed to refurbished, much quieter and more efficient, and actually slightly faster.
The pair of 460s is the fastest of the lot, but the most power hungry, and the 1GB video memory might be a limit if you use a large display (2560x1440 or 2560x1600).

I saw a EVGA GTX 570 HD for like $309.99 After MIR and that seems like a much better deal.

1050 or 1080 (i have both)
i have a cm850 silent pro psu, would that be enough to sli 570's down the road? the 460's would actually be about $60 cheaper than the 570 would be.

That should be enough to run two 570s fine. CMs aren't the greatest units but the SilentPro's one of the better ones and 850W is more than sufficient to run two 570s.

would you still give the 570 the nod vs. the soc 560 by gigabyte? seems to be similar performance at a $100 discount

if i understand correctly, your resolution is 1600x1050 -or- 1920x1080 (both are available to you) and your gpu choices are:

1 new GTX 570
1 refurbished GTX 480 ($60 less than the 570)
2 refurbished GTX 460's in SLI ($60 less than the 570)

my suggestion is to go with the GTX 460's in SLI. you save yourself $60 and once overclocked you can achieve greater than GTX 580 performance. the major downside is that they are refurbished. the new GTX 570 is tempting for this reason, even so i would go with the 460's.

I would go with the 570. In case you upgrade your monitor later on you can add another one for SLI to handle the increased resolution. Also, the 570's have more RAM to handle higher AA levels and texture rich games.

I honestly don't think 1GB will be an issue at 1920x1080 for a long time. If the GTX560Ti SOC is cheaper you might as well get that. If it isn't, then go with the 570.

Buy new. The refurbs will have a crappy 90 day warranty. The new card will have at least a year.

New card. Refurbs are cards that had issues before. Unless they are REALLY cheap.....Get the 570 or 560 new. At your resolution, should be fine with either for a good while.

not feeling comfortable with a 90 day warranty i have decided to stay with something new. so what would be the better route, costing about the same:
a) 560+ssd
b) 570
i'm thinking a, but i don't know if a ssd actually improves performance from a gaming standpoint. obviously windows performance will be better.

I would get a if those are your choices. A ssd does help gaming, especially loading screens. They are dramatically faster on an ssd.

Assuming all your games fit on the SSD, that is. Personally I'd still go with the SSD even if they don't for how amazing the performance boost in windows is.

so how much heat would 2 non-ref 560's or 570's (still can't decide) add to a haf 932 w/stock fans? looking at the msi tf2 cards. i'm also looking to add the fan controller sam has in his sig for more control.

The Kaze masters are good controllers. They don't suffer from intensely bright LEDs like their rivals from companies like Sunbeam, they're full voltage range (including completely off), all the connectivity to them is optional, they support rpm monitoring without needing the motherboard, and the (annoying) alarm for low speed / high temp can be disabled quickly with a jumper.

Two GTX560s will vary between around 350-400W max, two GTX570s will vary between 400-500W max, but obviously, with the reference 570s most of the heat goes out the back of the case. Two HD6950s are 300-350W max, and their heat also goes out the back of the case (and they're faster and cheaper than 570s)

well after having a few frosty beverages with my buddy who got me into this expensive hobby this weekend, he made a pretty good point.
" why don't you just throw another 5770 in there, stop crying about drivers and just wait and see what kepler brings in 6-8 months."

you guys think it's a good idea?

i'm torn because the egg has a ref 570 by msi for under 300 w/mir and the sale ends tonight.....
