So I currently have the GigaWorks T40 and I am totally disappointed in the bass (the low bass can only be heard in the other side of room). I'm thinking of getting KRK rokit RP5 monitors to improve the bass response and general audio quality, but will I notice any clear improvements in bass if I invest my 300€ in them? Or should I maybe just go with the AE Aego M 2.1 for example?

i have the krk rp6g2s on my desk and the bass is more than enough. I would say the rp5 g2 are similar enough in size that they will still have very good bass (i would probably be fine with those, i was going to buy them until i found a deal on the rp6 for the same price as rp5). The slot port and huge cabinet size mean that the rp5 are going to be moving way way way more amounts of air than the gigaworks t40 could ever hope to accomplish

have the KRK RP5's (G1) and while I'm not sure how the bass would compare with the T40's, but they definitely needed the sub to really fill out the low end punch

RP5 does not have great low end at all. The RP6 is a little better but Id add a sub to either. If you want a 2.0 setup, get the RP8... or if you want to stay with a smaller 5" driver go with the A5.

Well the bass of T40 would definitely suit my needs only if the bass port was frontal firing so the sub-80Hz bass wouldn't skip listening position. It literally sounds like someone turned on a subwoofer when I walk into the middle of the room.

T40 has 3" woofers, but there's 2 of them... still shouldn't the 5" of RP5 be able to produce at least same amount of bass, and because of the front firing port, I would actually hear that bass?

As long as you position a rear-ported speaker correctly I dont think the bass output is that much less than front-ported. You need at least 8-12 inches from the wall with rear-ported speakers. The RP5 is still weak in bass unless you turn it up really loud. There is some bass but I dont know how it compares to your T40. The overall sound quality will be MUCH better though.

If you want a 2.0 setup with bass, Id go with the A5.

Yeah but the T40 is not rear-ported, it is roof-ported. The bass flies over your head into the middle of the room.

I could always postpone my purchase one month and get the RP6, if it brings that 100€ worth of beefiness to the bass?

Well low freqs dont really work like that. If there is bass, it shouldnt matter where the port is. Low freq is "felt" more than "heard." Now for high freqs, that's a different story. That's why you can "feel" a sub at any corner of the room, no matter where the port is as long as it is properly positioned.

well that's how it is. When I move away from my PC, it suddenly sounds like somebody turned on a subwoofer. If I boost low frequencies in EQ I won't hear much difference, but when I move away from my PC again it's madness.
