Rumor: Crysis 2 Will Be DX9 Out of the Box

IF this ends up being true, then i'm going to simply wait for a Steam sale or something. I don't pay full price for incomplete and broken games as why else in thell do us PC gamers spend the money for our hardware in the first place. I can wait a long time too, since i've got a very long backlog of games that I can work on for now.

+1

Crysis 2 Pre-Order cancelled. I'll wait for the Steam bargain-bin sale.

hmm lets see how long have they been working on this game? maybe 2 yrs or so right. they could of made 10 or 11 support but nooo. they cater to bullshit console. will not spend my hard earned pennies for a bullshit title like this one.

Longer than that, Crysis came out around late 06, early part of '07, warhead not long after that. New (dumbed down) engine for consoles in the works (trying to get Crysis to run on consoles) as of late '07, early '08, so more like 3 1/2 -4 years in the works.

November 2007, actually. Right when the G92 nvidia cards were king.

These console ports are not only bringing along shitty graphics and poor character animations, but even worse...

The $59.99 price tags.

I was going to get Bulletstorm from Steam. Not for $60 I ain't.

I agree. Charging 59.99 for a console port just adds insult to injury.

Like someone mentioned in an earlier post, on Steam less than 7% of people have a DX11 capable machine,

That's from May 2010. Steam Survey, and explains shit as to why Crytek made DX9 game,
when more then 70% PC's have DX10 hardware.

At what point does this become comical?

It´s a Greek tragedy by now... lots of killing, deception and dysfunction.

Well well, this is just ridiculous! Oh they joy of being a PC only gamer these days. :mad: ...good thing there is lots to look forward to beyond this travesty.

I will be buying Crysis 2 when I can find it on sale for $5, and here I was planning at getting it full price, well that is if I even care at that point.

Can we expect a round of Dirt 2 style DX11 glaceing Crytek? Some character tessellation and then the odd asset here and there perhaps? No thanks! You were supposed to create a visual show case, a real time front runner, the standard, the benchmark the pinnacle.. instead you decided to travel back in time 6 years and pad us PC gamers on the shoulders with a stinker of what will most likely be your DX11 overhaul.

What a surprise to kill off the Crysis IP for any serious PC gamer here today. OK, you have one chance to prove us wrong, but you have just managed to annihilated my confidence in your competence.

PC game sales increased 20% last year, every other game market saw decreased sales.
May be true but I also think the increase is only seen in the top 5 games.

Still makes the market seem unattractive to many developers.

I don't know if its developers so much as big publishers and their moronic share holders.

I think it's hilarious the hype over dx level when in real world games are proving this is not a real factor in producing good graphics.

Quit b*tchin... It's like you all are eating sushi and loving it and then all of a sudden someone tells you it's raw fish and you puke... YOU LIKED IT A MINUTE AGO, and probably wouldn't even know if someone didn't tell you!!!

Have you seen the Battlefield 3's trailer using the new Frostbite engine? It looks amazing and is a huge step up from DX9. DX11 features turn on in other notable games like: Metro 2033 make a huge difference in image quality. Yes, there's a performance hit but it does look beautiful.

Battlefield 3 is amazing in its youtube video in that the lightning and atmosphere makes it seem almost like an interactive hollywood or independant documentary about war-in-____. but even one step further than CoD: BO in realism by losing the blockbuster cheesiness and notable step-up in graphical fidelity. Comparin CoD: BO based of DX9 versus Battlefiend 3 based of DX11, you can immediately notice a difference in quality. These are 'real-world' games.

Ironic prediction: Crytek caters to the console market to bolster sales they believe are limited by piracy in the PC arena and tailors Crysis 2 to the lowest common denominator (i.e., DX9). PC gamers are outraged by the perceived lower quality of the product and vow not to purchase. Lower than expected PC sales are again blamed on increases in piracy. Crysis 3 becomes a console exclusive.

want to get back at crytek for shitting all over PC gamers, and giving us a lackluster crysis 2?

dont buy it, save that money for a few months, and lets make Battlefield 3 the biggest fucking game in *years*.

seriously.... I never buy games when they first come out, or at full price... ever.....

but as long as the reviews are good, BF3 is a day one buy for me (and I wasn't even a fan of BF2 or 1...)

the big problem i see here is what crysis is. Lets be honest the original game was breathtaking in graphics...but meh everywhere else. It has it's stigma and almost every console gamer I am unfortunate enough to call a friend remembers it as that nice looking mediocre game that only pc the elites could actually play at a decent framerate. That is not good hype for a game and it's most likely going to be passed over by console players.

the short answer is...it's not halo or call of duty so the mainstream action gamers don't give a shit...not enough brand recognition among that crowd...look how well farcry 2 did on consoles...

in for this...i was pretty salty about dropping bf1943 for pc... but if they can redeem themselves and bring bf3 in all its glory to its true home (PC) then i'm in for a first day purchase. especially poignant as it could turn some heads at EA

Rewind 10 years ago... OMG DX9!!! THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE WORTH BUYING...
~~~~~~
Start playing today....WTF..HAPPENED TO DEVELOPMENT..Did everyone take a break to go to sleep?
wow, seriously.... DX9 is almost a decade old....
amazing how things have slowed down since the turn of the century....
The original is one of the best playing FPS if you play on Hard or Delta. I did not think much of it the first time through when I blasted through the game on Normal, but the game is awesome when you have to be creative about how to play it.
Not condoning anything on Crytek's part - but PC gamers abandoned THEM for bashing their coding ability (which, may I add, produced the de-facto standard for PC graphics to date) for years post release. This is what many of you guys asked for.
If the game comes out a better product than the demo currently is, with DX9. I'd be okay with it as long as the DX11 path brings some good improvements mainly AA cause the game needs it.
The Witcher 2 is probably also going to be DX9. At least they've not commented on using anything later for their engine.
They sold well over 3 million RETAIL. For a game that lacked decent multiplayer, that is quite a bit of support.
What possible difference could this make to anybody's enjoyment of the game? If you've got a raging boner for tessellation, go jerk off to a DX11 tech demo.
For the same reason I want a hot wife. Ugly wives may learn better "gameplay" "ballhandling" and "multiplayer :eek:", but we still want the hotter one.
People like visually appealing things. You don't go to see Avatar for the story.
Well going by the demo the gameplay is worse and so are the graphics. Crysis didn't have great gameplay in the first place anyway, at least not as soon as Crytek stripped away everything fun in the second half. All the game had going for it after the aliens showed up was that it looks good. Crysis 2 won't even have that.
Haha, well, no doubt about that; on the other hand, does DX9 so brutally restrict the graphical quality that Crysis--of all games release in the last 5 years--will suddenly look sub par?
I freely admit that I want to see maximum eye candy [Crytek inside jokes? anybody? :(] but I don't feel like we've been terribly disadvantaged during the long twilight of DX9 and, if the game's core graphics are all designed for DX9 one could reasonably assume they will be of very high quality. I think this will be true enough that Crysis 2 DX11 will be much like Crysis 2 DX10 was: a subtle benefit and an increase in graphical fidelity rather than a very necessary technology jump.
I've spent a lot of keystrokes deriding Crysis' gameplay over the years and, in point of fact, referred many times to Crysis 1 itself as a "tech demo stretched thin". That being said, I haven't been able to play Crysis 2's demo because their user account system was in a shambles on release day.
I was unimpressed with Crysis, to say the least, but: the graphics were top notch in DX9 and I think the same situation will play out with Crysis 2.
I'd have to reinstall it, but I think the MP in the demo looks worse than Crysis Wars even, which doesn't bode well for the final game. It will still look good, but I'm the type of person that is completely unimpressed by graphics, haven't seen since the PS1 era. If the textures in the final game are like the ones in the demo, yuck.
As if the $59.99 price tag and the lack of a single player demo wasn't enough to make me not want to buy this.I don't own a DX11 card but it's the principle of it. The first Crysis pushed the PC hardware, this doesn't seem to be the case with Crysis 2.
Probably not. SM3.0 is, for the most part, ample for most purposes. Like I said in another thread though, when you're using a g-buffer (for deferred shading), you lose the ability to do hardware RGMSAA in D3D9. Crysis 2 should use D3D10 or greater on the PC for precisely that reason.
Wrong: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey
This survey is from February 2011 (i.e. 3 days ago). 5.6% of gamers can run DX11, 62% can DX10.
And remember, this is all still speculation at this point. I'd be surprised if it didn't have at least some basic DX10 features (e.g. for MSAA).
