Mousepad Recommendations

I am using a Microsoft Sidewinder X8 mouse and would like some ideas on a good mousepad. I have narrowed it down to either Ratzpad or SteelSeries. Steel has so many it is difficult to know which one to go with. Any input/ideas would be appreciated.
 
zowie g-tf or p-tf, I have tested nearly 30 mousepads, this is the one to get , i already own 2 :D
 
I personally don't like cloth pads, my sweaty palms make the pads wet -.-, Ratzpad are great they are made with some kind of plastic not sure what material but I use one atm. Also steelseries sx mousepad has a really nice feel to it, just my preferences
 
The biggest question when choosing a mousepad is what type of sensitivity do you use? Basically it comes down to two regimes: low and high. The low sensitivity players will come in here and ape their favorite 20"x20" cloth pads. QcK, Goliathus, Talent, and those Zowie ones mentioned above are all examples of really big cloth pads. The high sensitivity players will name their favorite, smaller hard pads. They will recommend the Funcpad, Ratpad, 4HD and a slew of other options.

The large pads are... well, large. Honestly, I can't speak to what qualities define a good cloth pad because I am a higher sensitivity guy who uses pads from that regime. To me, they all feel the same: they are not as slick as hard pads and otherwise they possess no truly defining characteristics besides the fact that they are really big. A plastic or metal pad, on the other hand, have a variety of different feels to them (as I assume a cloth pad aficionado would tell you about cloth pads). Personally, I would recommend a Steelseries 4HD or 9HD (same thing but larger) as a hard pad.

Of all of the pads I've ever used, I can recommend very firmly against a Ratpad. They have too much texture and the plastic is low quality and not durable. Mine was worn down to a mirror finish in the center in less than 3 months. There are FAR better options out there, but the Ratpad will be highly recommended on this particular forum on account of the fact that they are somehow associated with HardOCP.
 
I agree that the RatPadz is not a good choice. It's great for the first bit, but it quickly gets worn, and I notice it starts to cause drag after awhile.

I'm actually really enjoying my rocketfish 2 sided surface. The "control" side is perfect. Its a solid plat of aluminum with a surface stuck on and it hold up very well. I used this one for awhile, bought another RatPadz (just kind of a hoping for better purchase, disappointed again) and now Im back to it again and still loving it.

The Ratpadz GS wears quickly. The XT is made from much better plastic, and in the two and a half years or so that I've been using mine, it hasn't worn down by any perceivable amount.
 
I can't use anything other than the Steelseries SX Medium. I'm on my second one and its worth every penny.
 
The Rocketfish Pad has been my most used pad for a long while, But honestly I dont like it. The rubber feet dont stay in place & the cold aluminum edge bothers me.. That said it tracks very well, looks awesome & lasts a long time. Mine is a couple years old & its starting to wear (the control side). I actually replaced it about a year ago with a RatPadz GS & that POS wore down in a matter of a month. My next pad will msot likely be the XTRAC PADS Ripper XXL. But I have a big fucking desk & depending on how I am sitting my mouse & kbd get moved. So not having to move the mousepad would be a plus.
 
I'm using the Rocketfish pad right now, and I love it. I agree with the above poster taht the feet don't stay on - mine came off within 2 months. I simply cut a bit of rug pad to place under the mousepad. It's great. Keeps the mousepad in place and provides some cushioning.
 
For a hard surface pad I like the new Mionix Propus 380.

But for cloth I like the Artisan series from Grow Up Japan. They come in different sizes so there's one for any size desk or workspace.

I'll probably go back to using the Artisan as I really like it.

Another vote against the Ratpadz from me, mainly because I dislike how elevated the surface is. I like a flatter mousepad, which is why I went with the func mousepads for so many years.

Right now my main recommendations are Steelseries QcK for a cloth pad, Steelseries 4HD for textured plastic. I own both and they are among the best in class for their respective surface types. I''ve been using the QcK for the last year since I want improved accuracy for Starcraft 2. The plastic pad (func pad before I got the 4HD) was too slippery and "fast" for my taste. I soon got accustomed to using the QcK for FPS and now I love it for everything. As a bonus, no more dust clumps gather at the mouse feet!

You also can't beat the price of the QcK, $10, nice.
 
I've been using a steelseries pad for quite some time now. it's double sided. matte textured and glossy textured.

I use the matte side and it works great.
 
Im using a razer imperator. Any suggestions on a pad to pair with that particular mouse ?
 
I love my Ratpad hands down it is simply the best mousepad I ever owned. Give them a try, if you are not satisfied send a shout over to Kyle (the owner of both [H] and Ratpadz btw) and he will make it right. Simply put buy one today and help out the [H] community.
 
If you are like me, and get wrist pain but hate dealing with those gel pads on mouse pads, you get a thick mouse pad. For me, that was answered by the Steelseries QcK Mass. I got one of the large ones, mainly because I move tiny mouse pads around a lot, so I opted for a large one that can just stay in place. But I am a high sensitivity user, and don't actually move the mouse around a lot.
I just ordered a second one in fact, I love the comfort and size.
 
I don't like my ratpadz at all. It's way too thick(elevated) and it's way too rough.
 
Using Vespula, and liking it. Two surfaces, have no problems with my Naga on it... can't tell you how it fares in MP, as I do not play any online shooters/RTS

Cyborg v5 Surface.

This mouse pad is great for gaming. Made out of a sheet of solid/rigid aluminum. Measures 9"x12". I like the size. Double sided for high sensitivity or speed. I gamed for about 3 hours yesterday with it felt way better than a softer gaming pad I was using before. This pad is designed for gaming. Very pleased with it. I play on a real wood desk and the pad didn't slide around. Best pad I have ever had and helped my Deathadder BE mouse perform better.

Ratpadz XT > *

I will say that the GS is probably not a long term heavy use option and can't blame anyone who feels the same. I killed my first one in 6 months, but I would be lying if I said those 6 months were not the most fragtastic games I've ever played. I finally upgraded to the XT and thus far is taking the usual beating, and laughing it off, where my previous GS was already getting that 'broken in' feeling about now.

If you didn't like your ratpadz, it was most likely a GS based on my experience. I wasn't a fan either after my third one smoothed down to a plastic mirror. I say give the XT a whirl. Thus far I am loving it.
 
yea im looking to replace my ratpads GS. I bought this when they were first introduced on [H].
can you imagine what its like now? Its worn beyond belief lol.

so i need something new that wont grind the mouse feet, something plastic or hard no cloth.
any recommendations?
 
The ratpadz gs was definitely a turd, but I personally love and prefer the ratpadz xt over any other surface with the use of logitech mice. Microsoft mice seem to have "rough" feet in my past experiences, don't know about now.
 
Exact thread I was looking for... Now I have to make up my mind on a mouse pad. Thinking of the Ratpadz.

Try a zowie p-tf, wou won't regret it ! plastic pads suck donkey balls durability and comfort wise, sore sticky wrists and smooth spots with drive you mad sooner or later :)
 
I like the Razer Destructor for use with my Logitech G700.

Razer just released a successor to it called the Scarab

I've been playing probably about 15 hours a week of point and click rpg (Titan Quest) on one for the last two months with a Logitech G700 (the pad is 4 months old tops). The smooth side did not stand up to the mouse feet and is now shot. Had to switch to the rougher side which I'm betting takes it about as well.

Ordered an XT to try out, is it normal to not get an email confirmation for that?
 
I just got my XT. I got a notification of my order being processed but no shipping confirm. This is my first true Gaming pad, other than that it was Allsops for me and they get rough to use and taco after a while. This thing is slick. For 20 shipped who can complain. If it gets smooth after a year or so I will get another. If it eats my G500's feet, I will simply get replacements. The ratpad is slick and that is all I care about. I just hate how all other mats breakdown.

I have used hard pads for quite some time. I just recently switched to a Puretrak Talent and I am satisfied with it. I got tired of the scratchiness and inconsistency associated with having an absurdly slick pad.
