Ikea desk gallery

And done. This thing turned out way more massive than I planned but I'm in love.

Not bad for ~$200 closer to $150 if I didn't break down for those dang awesome LED Dioders, a cheese grater, wisk, and lucky bambo :) .

Nice setup! That is certainly a nice amount of desk space for the, especially at that price. lol, I too ended up buying a whisk when I last went, as well as wine glasses, a wooden spoon set, and coasters. I am tempted to get the LEDs in the future myself, they looked neat.

Thanks for the link, would be nice to do.
The only prob with the summera tray is that it isn't nearly wide enough for my G15 and Ratpadz.
If I decide i want it badly enough I may head over to home depot and grab some drawer rails and matching particle board and throw something together.

Ive had my keyboard under the tray and mouse on top of my table for many years. It always felt normal.

Just got my Ikea Galant last week and finally have everything setup and where I want it. Love this desk. Total cost with tax for everything was about $650, but my work is reimbursing me $600 because I telecommute so you can't beat that. My office is rather small and the desk is rather big so I had to get in the far corner on a step stool to fit it all in the frame of the camera. :D I wanted to add an Ekby Alex shelf above it as a floating hutch, but they were out of it. I'm going back next week and hopefully they will be back in stock. If so, I'll post an updated pic. BTW, the chair is a Herman Miller Celle for $450 which my work bought for me as well. The chair is very comfy but the hard-ish plastic is rather hard on my legs while wearing shorts which is why there is a towel on it.

Congrats on the Galant! I wish my job would reimburse me for home office.:(

It is a sweet deal, but they do it because they are out of space and they want to encourage people to work from home. It is much cheaper to buy an employee a desk and chair than it is to build a new building to add the room they would need otherwise. It's a win-win. :)

Ikea customer service is unbelievably terrible..

I ordered a Galant and $1500 of other office furniture online back in January and paid $299 shipping.. Everything arrived except my Galant table top was broken in two pieces. They shipped everything on a pallet half the size of the tabletop and they put it on TOP of everything, so the shipment looked like a frickin airplane.

First, they asked if I wanted to keep the broken-in-half tabletop and accept a "discount". Then, Ikea's only "offer" was to put in another order and ship it via truck which would take another two weeks. I chose that option. The shipping company calls again today and says the replacement is damaged too.

I drive down there (even though it's supposed to be "residential delivery") and there is no packing material. Just the table top inside its regular cardboard covering (as if you went to an Ikea store and bought it) and the corners are all smashed in..

Call Ikea again today and it's all the same damn story all over again.. "I understand you're frustrated sir, yes sir, etc..". Again, the best they can do is ship it out of Quebec and put a "rush" on it so it goes out Wednesady (seriously? "Rushing" still makes it take almost a week to even ship OUT?)

They'll consider compensation if the THIRD one arrives damaged too (the rep said the third time will be "enough is enough"..)

No other shipping options other than truck freight. I hounded them for a good 15 minutes to send it purolator, UPS, or FedEx, but they wouldn't budge..

So, now, I'm waiting another two weeks..

So mad..

That's the Fredrick I have, perhaps I'll snap a few recent shots sometime in the next week and finally join the thread.

One thing about this colour of desk is dust and cat hair is very noticeable to me so I have to dust and vacuum a lot. I tend to do that quite a bit anyways as the house is mostly wood floors so dust, hair and other debris shows more than it does on carpet.

Yea Im aware of the dark surface catching dust but my previous desk was black as well so no biggie for me. I'm not a fan of beech or white computer desks.

I guess its about time to update my pic. Waiting for a PR server slot to open so I can get shot in the face.

Where can I get those lights used on the top shelf to light up the monitor?

Perhaps these are what he is using? http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/00119424
I'd like to do something similar but I might have the lights directly behind the monitor instead.

Well, that takes care of my desire to eventually set up a rackmount group of systems. Just got a few $10 Lack tables and it'll be good to go :D.

Well at least make it look less ghetto. Use the proper length screws and stuff.

Yeah, the LED strips are the ones I think would work best and I would mount them in the same location along the support beams.

I see they have several new models of strips since I last looked, I wonder how this model would work. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50192073
For the price it looks pretty good to me as you get 3 strips for $15.

Saxon237, I'm awaiting your upcoming post. :D

heh, I'm waiting my new speakers (Swan M10) to completed my project! That and replacing the translucent zip-ties I currently have tasked for cable management. I will say I got the 'big' fredrik, with the shelves, and a dual monitor mount from monoprice. Worked out pretty well, got all the ideas from this thread. I'll take the pics when I get home from work and hopefully have them posted up this evening.

I got my Ekby Alex shelf installed tonight, so I thought I'd update my pic. It was a royal pain in the @$$ to install, but I got it done and I'm glad to have the extra storage.

That's anything but messy... my office is a disaster area at the moment. makes your workspace look spotless :p

Yea, the thing that isn't in the picture, my girlfriend's desk, looks like a bomb went off...

She always criticizes me for not keeping much on my desk. Her theory is clean desk = empty mind, my theory is, clean desk = stops me from worrying about having a messy desk.

Edit: I just took a picture about 2 minutes ago of my "clean" desk.

That's the way to have the Fredrik setup, bring the shelf down for the monitor and speakers :) exactly what i did.

Yuck. I wouldn't do that. In fact I didn't with my Jerker. I can raise up the monitor enough with the display's attached stand. I don't need a shelf to do it. I tried that configuration and I hated it. I have never understood why people bother with that.

Because:

A: The majority of monitors don't have much of a height adjustment
B: Raise speakers closer to ear height. The Fredrik doesn't have add-on shelves like the jerker :(
C: Give extra depth on the main desk

That's how I had my desk set up for quite a while with a shelf as monitor and speaker stand
I decided a couple of months ago to try it with both shelves up top just to gain some more room on the table and I had the desk explode on me while trying to spread the posts to move the shelves.

Once I get some speakers that aren't the Logitech Z4 I'll likely switch back to that setup.

Especially point B. Those are studio monitors so height and direction are very important. I have the same exact speakers with the mopads too, but I'm struggling to figure out how to get the height right since I need to go with a corner style desk...not sure where I can install shelves, yet.

Have you considered making table stands? You will probably have to ditch the pads though. I had table stands before I got my Fredrik to level my studio monitors and it worked great at isolating.

Me too dude :) I even got the same chair, check back a few pages to mine -- http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1341821&page=99

Nice setup... i remember seeing it a week or two ago. What type of music do you make?
