Natural Selection

OG usually means original gangsta. He's probably implying something retro.

Natural Selection many years old no? Or are they trying to bring it back?

NS2 beta as of last week when I tried it was still unplayable to the point where you don't even want to play more than 1-2 minutes. They really need to fix the game to where you can actually play with more than 4 people. I can't believe its been that long since I preordered it. It's almost already faded out of my mind by now.

precisely, although calling natural selection retro makes me feel old :p

but yes, the original version not number 2

I play the original NS frequently. Love that game. I have yet to try NS2 tho, I might just wait until its officially released.

It's pretty unique. I get the urge to play it still sometimes.

Really sad news about the beta though. Doesn't give me hope that it'll be released anytime soon :(

Yes, it sucks, but Unknown Worlds seems to be in over their head. Looking back, when they dumped source the writing was on the wall. These guys are like a dozen people, have no shipped games except some lousy Sudoko thing, and they're going to build a "HD generation" engine AND a full game with no publisher support.

Anyway, I gave them $40 for the CE. If it ever comes out, great. If it's awesome, even better. The way I figure it, $40 barely covers the amount of fun I had with the original NS, so no loss on my end.

That could very well likely be the problem, which "startup" type developers seem to run into, being overly ambitious. Even a veteran studio like 3dRealms fell to this with DNF. Sometimes you have to simply just scale back your features and tighten your focus. Things are very different unless you are say Blizzard, who have several revenue streams to draw from.

I've followed the NS2 beta for a while, and bought it in january. It's definitely a fun experience to follow the game evolving. I play some games once in a while, usually after a new patch like a lot of people (patches are pretty frequal).
Recently they have fixed wallwalking with skulks (brilliant now), put in a crazy alien vision mode, and a dynamic infestation creep-like mechanic with rough placeholder graphics.

I do feel that you need to be aware of the "people think they are entitled to..." argument to enjoy the game and its development. If your point of view is "I just payed 35$ for this game and it's a bugfilled incomplete beta", you will most likely be as annoyed as the people who bought Black Ops for full price and had it run like shit on their rigs, regardless of how good the NS concept is.

edit: the game is far from release. But with the course the game is heading and the great word of mouth getting new customers all the time, it will release at some point. In the meantime I will mesmerize and cancel all your arguments with the old "price <-> hours of entertainment" :D Im on 20 hours on steam and rising

they have a lot of issues with the netcode at the moment - so gameplay is super rough.

many people are misconstruing framerate issues when much of it is netcode (though fps issues do exist)

Last time i tried to play NS_Combat its all bots.

Hope this project comes along, they'll get me money when i see some results.
