Over the last few days I have been planning a server build to run FreeBSD + ZFS. I have used FreeBSD since 1996 which is why I am choosing this implementation of ZFS. I have been reading many ZFS posts on this site as well as a couple of other forums regarding the hardware to choose. Below is the equipment I am considering:
Case: Fractal Design Define XL Black
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T
RAM: 2 x F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL G.Skill 2x4GB PC-10666 (16gb)
NIC: 1 x Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter PCIe
PSU: Seasonic X-650
OS Drive: 1 x Corsair Force Series 60GB SSD
ZFS: 6 x 2TB Samsung F4 HD204UI
My goal is to run it in RAIDZ2 giving me about 8TB of useable space. Does anyone have any suggestions or issues with any of this hardware in a similar setup? I have tried to avoid hardware that has been mentioned as problematic.
My primary concerns are if the motherboard, cpu and ram are a good combo to run this on and the power requirements (should I use a lower rated PSU?). Power consumption is always an issue of course, but I would like good performance.
Any input would be appreciated
