STALKER Mod for Crysis

What's the point? It won't be better than on X-Ray 1.0 engine. If it was a completely new game or even something like an expansion to SoC, it would be alright.

it plays like Crysis but looks like Stalker? Doesn't that kind of lose most of what Stalker is?

So what this mod turns Crysis into a good game? Bwhahahahaha

Get out of here StalkerCrysis!

Seriously though, if they did it right it COULD be good I guess. My only complaint really is that the Crytek engine is way too colorful and shiny for a Stalker game. It doesn't fit the environment whatsoever.

STALKER isn't about fancy graphics,it's about the game play and storyline. The look of the game is just fine for it's setting, especially when played with the Complete mods. Crysis looks pretty and has a hint of open world play that made it mildly entertaining, but it pales in comparison to STALKER.

Is it just me or does it not look as good as stalker?

that's what i was thinking too. the Xray engine looks pretty good, and fits well with the dilapidated stalker universe.

here's a couple shots from where i'm currently at in CoP (these were taken while running the atmosfear mod):

Interesting way to get past the limitations of the X-ray engine.

Stalker fans are HARDCORE.

Well, it is a total conversion from a mod team, not Crytek devs. Their assets, especially tree/textures are pretty "alpha stage". It would be interesting to see how far this goes.

Most of you guys are missing the point. It's a mod, which in this case means a project that a couple people decided to do for fun. The intention was to port all of the assets in stalker over to cryengine to see if they could make the game look better. I'm sure they didn't expect it to play better than the original, and they sure as hell didn't try and create something new.

The fact is, cryengine is capable of producing better visuals than the x-ray engine. These guys have an interest in making games as a hobby (I don't know if any of them do it professionally) and they love stalker, so why the hell not try and port it to cryengine for fun? Modders in the past who have done similar things have gotten job offers in the game industry if their work is good enough.

Anyways, I'd say they did a good job so far. It's not up to the standard of some of more famous mods yet, I'd say because of attention to detail, but it's not bad. I think they need to do a bit better blending the ground textures and they could do a lot more with the ToD settings in the non-foggy areas. I'm no expert on cryengine though. Sandbox 2 was fun to play around in and crymod always has some cool stuff to look at.

Impressive.

I think I need to revisit the STALKER games and have the GTX 480 say to hello to them properly. Heck, I need to get back into Metro 2033 and finish that come to think of it.

What's with the naked women at the 3:45 mark? Given that females of any kind are non-existent in the Zone,I'd think gunning them down would be the last thing on those Stalkers minds!:D

I'm curious to know how this mod is allowed to exist? I realize it's not the first time a game has been "remade" as a mod, but typically the games getting remade are old, and no longer really selling. (Black Mesa and the Mechwarrior mod come to mind.) The Stalker series is probably still selling, especially thanks to steam sales. Why would anybody go buy stalker though if they can get it as a crysis mod for free? I realize this is not for profit, but it still seems like it could damage the sales of someone elses IP.

as long as its not for profit its possible. in the end it means more sales for them, it gets the STALKER name out to the public and gets people to buy it when a new release comes out with the STALKER name. basically its a mutual benefit for both sides, the community gets a game they want and the company get's more sales out of it.

The original Stalker game is old now. You can pick it up for next to nothing in bargain bins. I think its great that the original devs haven't shut this down yet. It shows support for the pc gaming industry as a whole (the mod community in general is amazingly popular), increases sales of the original game (if only for comparison purposes, the game is cheap as hell anyway), and is like free advertising for any future Stalker/cryengine games ("Stalker is great/ This engine is fantastic" and comments of the like)

I highly doubt the mod plays very much like the original, and I also doubt that the entire game, npcs, conversations, cut scenes, event triggers and all that, has been ported. I'd be very surprised if you can actually "play through" the crysis version in any reasonable way. Of course I haven't looked too deeply into the mod, but that's the usual condition of these things. Respect is still due to the stalker devs for allowing it.

True. I find that games that port old games are much less interesting most of the time then just playing that old game itself. I mean Stalker was a pretty decent looking game when it was released and with current mods Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl still looks pretty dang good today. IMO the X-Ray's biggest strength was the way it could draw shadows.

Kinda taking the worst from both games and combining it into one game. If the AI system, bullet physics, and combat are replaced with what is in crysis ... well ... it won't be stalker. I always liked the gritty xray engine more than the brightly coloured fisher price engine of crysis.

That's fucking terrible. SoC with complete 2009 maxed out looks way better than that, personally speaking. That sure as hell isn't STALKER though. All the atmosphere is gone.

Get out of here Crysis!

thats all easy to fix if these people actually know how to use the old ass map making software crytek uses with crysis.
