Hot? RE4 2TB Recertified $119 + ship

So they want to sell a refurbished drive for 50% of it's retail value and only warranty it for 20% of the time they normally due after it's already failed once?

Them numbers don't add up... :(

Sucks you can only get 1 year extended, 2 years would be better. I use 4 of these guys in my Synology NAS.

I've had good luck with my RE 250GB's.. 28,000+ hours on the 4 of them, and they still work great.

yeah...this deal is sooooo very tempting...i populate all my personal desktop machines with REs. I have 3x 400s and 2x 250s. It is the one investment i never regret. And i'm looking for a 2TB hdd too...interesting...maybe i should jump on it...but the only 1.25 year warranty on a recert is killing me...

I don't think the drive is tempting, period. Look at the reviews of the retail one - almost 20% one-egg reviews. The only reason anyone would give a HD one egg is drive failure. Who knows how bad the recert would be.

both sata 3gb's, both 2tb 64mb cache, both 3.5 internal,

I still have my 500GB RE2 from ages ago. It's been my main OS drive in my machine (987 days power on hours, latest count) and hasn't given me any trouble. This is tempting; new ones seem to have a higher premium over the normal ones, from when I bought this one.

Then you don't know the difference between enterprise hard drives and consumer storage drives.

So very true, but a lot of people dont...

As for this deal, it is solid i guess, but like already mentioned, 1.25 year warranty on a drive that usually comes with a 5 years warranty... I have to pass.

Where are the 3tb RE4 drives?!! I just had an old WD500 drive fail in one of my arrays, and that is enough reason to upgrade all the drives. I need 4 3tb drives STAT!

Hard drives are like light bulbs...
All drives fail even RE drives.
I have had RE2, and RE3 drives fail on me before.

As others said, lack of warrenty is what spoils this deal, otherwise that is a good price.
