I need some assistance guys.... Last time I played Farcry2 was about 2 years ago and my PC at the time was a Q6600, and GTX260 combo and the game played awesome!! I loved the game, but lost it over the years, so while I was in BestBuy yesterday, I saw they had it for 9$ so I bought it... I installed it this morning on the PC in my sig (Much faster then the Q6600 setup I last played this game on) and much to my surprise, the game plays like crap... My Win7 64 install on this PC is only 2 days old, and bare!! I have all the lastest drivers installed, and cant understand why this game plays jittery, and slow.... Im installing FEAR2 now as I type this to see if that game plays like crap too, but any ideas as to what I can do to maybe get this game to play smooth? I have the lastest patch installed too (1.3) Thanks

Try this in the in game console:

gfx_maxfps 30

IIRC it was the only thing that got rid of the annoying stutter I would notice while playing.

Make sure your motherboard chipset drivers are up to date. Also check the bios settings and make sure primary video settings are set to pcie for your 6870. Finally try the 10.10e driver for the 6870 as I believe those are the best drivers for gaming with those cards still.

Where on amd's site are the 890FX chipset drivers???

Can I set that number to a greater value???

I hope you get it running. Excellent game, gets a little repetitive, but excellent.

If I remember right there were several updates to the game. make sure you add all of them.

AS far as updates go, I only see patch 1.3 for farcry2... I know this is a decent game, played it 2 years back.. actually came free with my EVGA GTX260 card back then.. I cant seem to make this game play decent... I must be overlooking a setting somewhere, however I just played FEAR2 for the last 50 or so minutes, and that game is playing just as it should......SMOOOOOOOOOTH!!!

To be honest I can't find it on AMD or MSI. Strange. this is one reason I don't go with motherboards that have AMD chipsets or cpu's but anyhow, use your msi live update and make sure everything is up to date even your motherboard bios.

BTW is the 890FX chipset brand spankin new cause if it isn't then the lack of driver support is very underwhelming.

Im having the same problem. It played fine with my 4850 and lowered settings. Fired it up with my beloved 5870 and while I still get 80 or so fps, it gets choppy and not nearly as smooth.

Have you guys tried different driver sets? Also have you done a driver sweep and reinstall of the catalyst drivers?

Yeah when I got my 5870 I cleaned all the old stuff off before installing the new drivers. So far FarCry2 and STALKER COP are the only games that it does this on. All the others are perfect.

Sir, IM on a fresh format:eek:

I understood that the first time I posted. I was suggesting you try different driver sets as sometimes some games run better on different drivers with amd. Also make sure your antivirus is disabled when installing the catalyst drivers, try cleaning out the drivers and reinstalling. Fresh format or not shit happens. Especially with Catalyst drivers, my findings so far is that they are very touchy.

AFAIK there are no drivers for 890FX NB but they do have SB850 drivers at AMD game in the downloads section under Motherboard/Integrated video section in the Optional (!!!) category. That is what you need for chipset drivers. This is yet another reason why some folks are turned off by AMD. God, i love AMD/ATI but their driver downloads section really needs improvement.

Here's the link to that driver page i mentioned:

Odd, I tried it a few months ago on my 5870 and it ran perfectly smooth. Only thing was that I couldn't have AA enabled( basically whole screen turned white), but everything else went nicely.

Far Cry 2 will play terrible no matter what you do.

This is the wrong answer.

Last time I played Far Cry 2 was when I had my 4850. Played just fine. Of course I couldn't turn everything all the way up, but it wasn't jittery/stuttery by any means.
