This is an older system (circa 2006), but at almost half the price of the 2.1 system I was going to buy, I couldn't resist.

No problem, I was this close to dumping $100 on an older set of THX-certified 2.1 speakers on Amazon when I just randomly decided to search on TechBargains. I have ordered both a G15 keyboard and a G9x mouse "dented box", and both showed up just like new, with intact boxes.

The whole concept of "dented box" sounds like sneaky accounting to me! :D

dude, you're gonna love em. i have owned my set since june, and they are amazing. although, if they don't sound right, make sure you adjust your equalizer. the biggest complaint i've read about these speakers is the sound is a little flat, but if you adjust your equalizers right, its amazing :)

I already have a set of X-530s, I wonder if these are enough of an upgrade to pick up.

This deal is semi good still. They are showing as 59.99 without the promo code.
$9 shipping for standard isn't bad.

My wife and I both use these on our rigs and love them. I think these are the best bang for the buck in the under $100 price bracket.

Don't think about it... just buy them. These won't last long.

I had some X-540's and for the price they're great. I'm on some X-640's right now and love them.

Best Buy has the Z-506 speakers on sale right now for $79.99

I just got an Obutto cockpit, would these be a decent cheap addition for it? I'm too concerned about sound quality because it'll mostly be for gaming. I do plan on adding a buttkicker gamer 2 to the cockpit at a later time also.

I bit. I figured it'd be a good upgrade for my Cambridge Soundworks FPS 1800 system circa-1999. Thanks OP. :)

I got these refurbished at midnightbox.com for about $50, love them. They're perfect for apartments or dorms, as was my case.

When not using headphones, I still use an 'ancient' pair of Logitech Z560's. They still thump along great. I need to spray cleaner on the volume coil once a year or so, just to get rid of the static you hear when turning the volume up or down. Other than that, they've been solid for around 10 years now.

I cant tell from their marketing hype - by "satellite speakers" do they mean wireless, or just "not a subwoofer"?

All the speakers are wired, including the subwoofer.

I just ordered a set even though it costs more now. I like em better than the new z506s. I have speakers with the controls on the speaker itself and it's a pain in the ass.

For anyone impatient with shipping, this set has been ~$70 at Wal-Mart for a few years. I looked at them again the other day, but I can't seem to convince myself to replace the Altec ADA880's on any of my computers.

strek, I'm with you & have an old set of X-530's; great for the $$

I'll prbly pass for 3 main reasons:
- believe sound to be same (if not 'Cost Reduced' over the years )
- prefer the volume knob on the RH speaker, instead of a separate box lying on the desk
- get more fun outa $61 in-town tonight :D

X-530's sound a little crisper. The X-540s have higher bass, but its more like muddled base. No rattling or buzz noises when sound is turned from low to nearly max (haven't tested max yet). There's also no hiss at low volumes for both the X-530 and X-540s. Headphone port on remote works great; no hiss on that either.

I have read that the Z506s have a slight buzz/hum when no sound is being played. The X-540 doesn't have this issue.

thanks OP. I have a friend that needed a set. this fits the bill nicely.

Thanks OP!! My uncle's birthday is next month and he just rearranged his office to where 5.1 is possible! It's the perfect gift for him!

Just picked a set of these up for my wife.. I have the X-530s, and she was using a really, REALLY old set of 5.1s by Labtec.. You simply can't beat the performance of the X-540s for this price.. Thanks for the post OP!!

You are quite welcome guys! Mine came in last week and I am loving it!

If what I got is Logitech's idea of a dented box, I'm only buying dented boxes from now on. I had to look hard to see any problem with the box.

Hooked them up and liking them so far. The bass can get a little distorted at higher volumes, and having the control panel hard-wired to the sub makes it a little hard to route wires, but it sounds *MUCH* better than my 11 year old Cambridge Soundworks.

I have a stupid question... Are these speakers for PC only or could I hook them up to my hdtv for movies and ps3 gaming?

The speaker cords are sorta short on the fronts (probably 5-6 feet), but on the rears they were long enough to reach the other side of the room.

The inputs are 3 stereo 1/8" phono plugs (like headphones.) If you wanted to use these on a home theatre type thing you'd need to get adapters.
