Dell U2410

How often do these go on sale anyways? I scrolled this thread and see a lot of people say they get it for like 100 off.

I purchased mine for $350 off Craig's List in Vancouver. Brand new, unopened. For that price it is worth it. No taxes to boot. In Vancouver its 12%. I bought and returned, at least a dozen TN monitors. They were not really terrible. some were better than others. But the good ones were not really cheap. I'm happy.

does this monitor have built in speakers at all so if you hook it up through hdmi you can get sound?

no built in speakers but it has audio out. (via 3.5mm stero jack) and hdmi audio comes out of it. I use the monitor for 360 and ps3 gaming and I don't notice any audio lag although sometimes there is a tad bit of interference for like a second and it goes away.

I noticed the A02 firmware here ...

Installed fine on my october 09 U2410

Does anybody have any input lag numbers on the BenQ G2400WD? I recently replaced one of mines for an AW2310. But, I hate the size and aspect, despite it being a 120hz panel and this is coming from an FPS gamer. From what i've read in this thread, the u2410 has pretty good input lag for an IPS. However, I am still uncertain if I would want to use this panel for gaming. So that is why I am asking for a comparison against the BenQ, because I used to game on it for about 2 years and it was pretty good for my uses. I know the advertised response time on the BenQ is 2ms GTG, but I am looking for tried and true, tested review numbers. If the BenQ numbers and the u2410 numbers are decently close, then I will be returning this AW2310 and will get the u2410.

is it normal for these monitors to have slightly different brightness levels? I have a pair where one is just a little darker than the other at the same brightness level and have to adjust it up. I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it or if it is the angle of view

Welp. I purchased one of these locally.

He claims to have had this monitor since December 2010. But under the box it says 2010 04 16. Probably meaning the monitor was packed since that date. The box says Revision A01. There's no serial sticker on the monitor whatsoever. Are these monitors supposed to have a sticker on the back of them? Proceeding further, I installed the ISP 2.0 checker and my firmware says m1f19.

Everything looks fine though. From what I can tell there's no backlight bleed whatsoever and no dead pixels. I am probably screwed out of warranty though since he had no invoice.

There is pullout tab behind the usb ports that lists the serial number.

:p Thanks.

Okay, i'm glad the serial # on the panel at least matches the box. I was wrong about the April 16th thing and It's probably the box's made date. The panel was manufactured since June 2010. So, he could have owned it anywhere from then until now. I called Dell to see if I can still get warranty on this monitor despite not having an order number or even a phone number to use. The rep got my information and the monitor's serial # and then Dell is supposed to get back to me in 2 days.

My 2410 that was purchased locally is August 2010 and is Rev 02. So sometime in between June and August is Rev 02.

A small amount of difference is normal, yes. With usage it's also normal that the back light dims over time. So, if you use one screen a lot more than the other, you could expect the more used screen to be a bit darker at the same brightness level.

Occasionally you can get brand new screens which are much darker and, if the different is pretty huge, I'd log that as a back light fault with Dell.

Well, it looks like Dell just helped me out. On the day I bought the monitor locally, I called Dell for warranty support. Gave the lady my monitor's serial # and my personal information, she said Dell would call me back in 2 days. Well, it's been about that time and no phone call. So, I called them and spoke to a different lady and she gave me an order number.

Keep in mind I never ever have ordered a u2410 from Dell, but yet the order # shows up associated with my account and it says the order number has been cancelled. However, I am able to use the order number and the rep told me that the warranty is only good for one year.
I kinda lied and said I had a few dead pixels when I don't. So, I am kind of worried that they'll check the monitor when they receive it and cancel my warranty status or even charge me. But, I had to do this since it's the only way to see if I could get warranty.

Anyways, to wrap things up I have a Dell u2410 with 1 year limited warranty that I bought for $250. Not bad IMO.

Still not sure what the purpose of all this was. You lied to the lady about dead pixels when there was nothing wrong with the monitor. Are you planning to get it replaced?

I just got my u2410 today, RevA04. It's nice so far, but not a huge upgrade from my previously loved L246. I have two question though. My screen is red-ish in the bottom right, and blue-ish in the top left. Anyone else have this problem? I'll probably get used to it, but if I can do better with an exchange, I'll do it. Second, I'd like to calibrate my monitor with one of the color profiles from TFT central, is this recommended? The u2410 profile up there is 2 years old. I haven't gamed on it yet, but the first difference I've seen in the lagom test is that theres no banding compares to my L246.

Edit: Just noticed a dead pixel middle top. Looks like a big grey clump. Definitely exchanging it. I think I'm cursed. First horrible uniformity on the u3011, now same thing on u2410 with added dead pixels.

I don't want to get it replaced.

The monitor is perfect. No tinting issues and not a single hint of backlight bleed whatsoever. Unless there was an alternate way that I could have obtained warranty, without having the original order number, please let me know. I just wanted to cover my own bases since I bought the monitor 2nd hand and for some dumb reason the guy could not get me the original invoice, order # or even phone # related to the monitor purchase and I bought the monitor knowing this, but whatever, I got the monitor and the warranty so I am happy. Surely enough I could have waited until there was a real problem, but I might not have been fortunate enough to get a representative to help me out as much as she did. And if you own a Dell monitor yourself, then you should know Dell does not grant anybody warranty without an order #. I might just send the replacement monitor right back to Dell and say my pixel problem suddenly got fixed.

That's the classic tint issue.. Search this thread for "tint" if you want to know more. Briefly, it appears to relate to flaws in LG's manufacturing process for IPS panels. Some screens are more-or-less free of the issue, many have it mildly, and some severe. Your U2410's colour uniformity is purely luck of the draw. You can compensate for tint (slightly) by adjusting the gain controls in custom mode. However, until the day LG perfect their IPS panels, or Dell implement proper uniformity controls (Such as Eizo's "DUE" or NEC's "Colorcomp") there is unfortunately no "fix" possible that I'm aware of.

Second, I'd like to calibrate my monitor with one of the color profiles from TFT central, is this recommended?
No. If anything it'll make your screen quality worse. Stay away from other peoples generated profiles. The U2410 already comes with 2 calibrated profiles (Adobe and sRGB mode) making that stuff even more of a waste of time than the waste of time it usually is. If you're still not happy with how things look then adjusting the colour settings in Custom Mode (despite its problems), or even just running the Windows software calibration tool (Control Panel / Color Management / Advanced / Calibrate Display) would probably be more useful than using another screens calibrated results. Otherwise buy a hardware calibration device.

The above is not to be confused with using the generic ICM profile Dell provide with the U2410 drivers. That's included so that, if you use one of the U2410's Wide Gamut modes (basically anything other than sRGB/Adobe mode), you can apply colour management in a colour managed app, and things like sRGB colours will look normal in those apps, even though you're not in sRGB mode. Dell calibrated this using a 10 bit process, and it produces pretty good results if you use the latest version they provide.

Hey guys. anyone still on the fence about this try to use coupon code 1XW?ZS0N$KVRLR. That got it down to $449 for me then I had a mailed flyer from dell for another $30 off and got it to $429. Not bad I'd say :)

Just bought into the u2410 club w/ the $150 coupon code as well. Didn't see a mailer coupon, would have been nice, but the upgrade was necessary anyway.

Plus with the 100% write-off of capital expenditures on the tax forms for 2011 the monitor is essentially free anyway (gotta love being a freelancer!).

An update..

After I messed up my U2410 by trying to update the A02 firmware, I had no choice, but to call Dell..

They shipped the replacement overnight and it's a A04, Dec 2010. It looks brand new. How do you recognize a refurb? There is no "refurb" sticker or anything like that..

On the packing slip, there is also a note "Replacements may be new or reconditioned".

Kudos to Dell, they are definitely my #1 choice.

The service menu will show you how long the monitor has been on for. To activate it, turn off the monitor, hold down the 2nd and 4th button from top and press the power button. Once you see the all the LEDs light up, press the top button.

You should see a blue factory menu and in it should be a "Back Light On Time" or just "Time" in hours and minutes.

Shows 40min.

Dell overnighted me my replacement monitor and I'm testing it out side-by-side with my previous. They differences are insane. It still has the bottom-left IPS "glow", but the color uniformity is much much better. My previous was very cool everywhere except the bottom right where is was very warm. The new one has a slight gradient of cool to warm going left to right that you can see on a white background, but it's still much better. I'll try to post comparison shots. New monitor was manufactured January 2011.

Just got mine setup. No problems so far all looks great!

Another question, what contrast and brightness your using? I know in the past for LCDs i crank up contrast to like 95 then turn brightness way down. Does this apply to the 2410? Im using Adobe RGB mode in case it matters.

Kind of a problem now. My set has backlight hum. It goes away when brightness is set above 80 or bellow 20. If i send this back for this what are the chances of getting back a set that doesn't so this? What do they send back anyways? Refurbs?

Definitely. My old U2410 was A01, Dec 09. After receiving this, it feels like a new panel whatsoever. This one probably has a better calibration, and the IQ feels better, IMO.

Too bad I couldn't compare side by side.

How does the replacement work? mail back your old one? Dell made you a new one? Who paid shipping?

Dell takes care of everything. Basically, you need to call to Dell and explain the issue. Let them know that you want to exchange, and they will ship the brand new monitor to you. Once you get it, put the monitor back in the same box and ship it back. The shipping label might be included in the package or send via email.

I was looking at the Dell 2311H but in the last minute decided to go with the U2410s. I look forward to trying it out when I get it next week. :)

Totally off topic, but no I've never covered any wars. I'm actually a staffed web designer and interaction specialist now, and do freelance web design and front-end development on the side.

The last time I did photo journalism was in college. I mostly focused on exposing the terrible living conditions of low-income inner-city neighborhoods in Houston, TX.

got my u2410 just a week ago or so. i've been very happy with it. not tinting issues that i've noticed. i've got a Rev 04.

I just realized whats been "off" about this monitor. When grey colors ghost, they leave blue and red trails when moving left and right. Best example is minecraft, panning left at right while looking at the grey shaded cobblestone leaves very noticeable red and blue streaks. I thought I was crazy, but moved slower and its definitely there. I almost want to return this now...

The U2410 is slagged by many people. I purchased a brand new unopened from Craig's List in Vancouver for $350 CDN and am very happy with it. But, then again I haven't tested the HP models. Maybe they are better, maybe not, but I don't spend the entire day looking for deficiencies. It has all the connections I need, the resolution and size I want (although a 27 inch would be nice).:)

does dell generally charge restocking or return shipping fees if you are returning a monitor for a refund?
