I bought one of these a couple months back and its been good so far. From everything I've read, these are reliable but not the fastest 1TB 7200RPM drives out there.

Ok, I'll bite:

Why the thumbs down if this is such a great deal (which it is)? Misclick of the mouse, perhaps?

Great drive, some people talk smack about them but drives fail every now and then so they probably just got a bad apple in the bunch (like all electronics pretty much). Check reviews if you don't believe me, Hitachi has been around a while...

great deal, i've used many of these for cheap system builds and they are plenty fast. i have an F3 running side by side and although the F3 benches faster I can't honestly tell the difference in real world usage. in for 2 more just for spares at this price.

ah i got over hitachi, had first one on dell died in 4 month (lost my data of course) bought second one from online, the sata adapter broke in about year after that i never took a look at it.

I don't know if my 1tb hitachi is the same model but it is good drive. Can be noisy on some of the seeks but to me a fan over 1000rpm is noisy so that might be quiet for some of you. I have had no problems at all with it.

Ordered last night ~7:30 PM ET, just arrived at 12:20 PM ET. It went from Indiana to Connecticut in 16 hours.

Just opened the box, as others have said it comes with 4 mounting screws (useless in my HAF912) but no SATA cable. Oh well, I'm sure I have a zillion or so laying around.

Hehe, yeah, first time posting a deal and I screw myself :)
It could have a reverse psychological effect and make people want to check out the thread to see why the thread starter thumbed it down, like it did for me. ;) Hence, a way to beef up the view count! Woot!

lol, never thought of it that way. I suppose you could be right since I usually end up falling ass backwards into situations that end up helping me. I guess my nick should be Even Steven.

You might start a trend here where people start thumbing down deals they post just to inflate the view count. Hell, maybe I should do that the next time I post for the hell of it. :D A shout-out to Even Steven if I do. ;)

So am I supposed to assume that the drive failed on him?

No, he was talking about the IBM "Deathstar" issues from a decade ago, well before he ever even owned a HD, never mind a Hitachi HD...

Yea micron have the 1TB f3's for $59 and newegg had them for $59 a bit ago; 1TB seems pretty cheap these days.

Samsung Spinpoint is a faster drive, but it's $10 more = 20%..

bought one for my uncles rig and works like a charm. Don't hesitate to jump on this but NE has a 1.5TB Seagate for $60.
