Bottom line is that I don't want to get a server chassis... no SuperMicro 4u/Tower options with high speed fans... no Norcos, please.

Looking for a chassis that can fit ATX, mATX, and mini-ITX, and hold 12-16 drives internally and that are easily swappable. This is going to be by Hyper-V host + streamer VM + WHS VM (and subsequent storage pool drives) chassis.

Case can be any form factor, as long as it's quiet and not a rackmount. The smaller the better! Also, I don't want to be converting 5.25" to 3.5" drive space. Needs 4x 5.25" bays though. No More, no less. Cost not an issue... level looking at the Level 10 (non-GT) just because.

Anyone have any suggestions? Looking for cases that aren't mesh/acrylic... not a lot of fan bling or anything like that.

ideally - mini-ITX or mATX, 8x internal 3.5" drives, and 4x 5.25" bays (have some cages coming soon). mid-tower chassis, nice and quiet, decent airflow. Primary heat source will be the HDDs. System is Core2Duo using intel board, non-OC'd, LV DDR2, stock cooler, and the SM SAS 8port HBA... onboard everything.

the Antec 1200 has 12 5.25" bays, so if you use 4 * 4-in-3 bay adaptors you can get 16 drives in there! but it's a pretty large case

alternatively, the Fractal Design R3 is fairly small and has 8 x internal 3.5" bays and a few 5.25"

looks like ++++.. gonna check it out

blocking URL in post. I found it.

Lian Li PC-V2000, PC-V2100, and PC-201 all have 12 x 3.5" bays and 7 x 5.25" bays...if you can find one. Too bad you didn't bother me about a couple months ago. I used to have 3 of them.

motherfucker YOU'VE HAD AT LEAST 3 OF EVERYTHING. I don't really want a behemoth like that though, already have that damned rocketfish (kind of looking to dump it, actually) but here I am shopping.

+1

oh & 3?? NICE! :D

Hell you could fit 15 Hotswap in an Antec300 plus 6 more internally.
Not the greatest case, but smaller than most of the others mentioned here.

I am using an Mountain Mods U2-UFO case, I have I believe 8-10 3.5" drive space in the back (Cooled by 3x 80mm fans) and 4x 5.25 bays in the front.

Case measures 18-18-18 inches. Try mountain mods, you can customize all of their cases to whatever needs!

15...? I only see 3x 5.25" bays... maybe you meant 5, as in 5-in-3 enclosure...?

Also, Newegg appears to be OOS :D:cool::p

No i Meant 15

3x 5in3 hotswap bays.

Those front panels come out...alll 9 of them and just remove the front fans. You can put your hotwap bay in there. It will have a fan so its not like you will destroy your cooling either.

I've got a mint Lian-Li V2100B sitting in my basement that I'd like to get off my hands... :)

Lian Li 2010b or PC101, both server cases but they don't look it!

I was blown away when I got my PC101 for a casemod, ripped all the cages out but still LOL.
