Approx two month waiting. :( Ordered from CannonPC.

Will be worth it though. The shipping charges on that thing is outrageous. It cost $29 for UPS 3 day, and the cheapest shipping was ground at a whopping $26. Fluid Digital was the same.

Ebay people need to die, selling for over $100 cost.

yea I thought the same thing, it sounds like price gouging on the shipping to me. they all have identical shipping charges. I'd say there was some collusion. I've been waiting on mine for 2 months now and the end does appear to be in sight. Cannon's next batch could very well get me mine.

No, Ceton did say there will be a cheaper card though but no release date yet. It will probably be a dual tuner with digital cable card capabilities.

That's why I sold mine on ebay recently - $500, a nice little profit. I can wait until August to get another (or the HDHR Prime) when the Redzone channel has content again.

i just got mine about 2 weeks ago.

the combination of ceton 4 tuner card with all my HD channels and remote potato's ability to stream all the content is Awesome...

now if we could just get the ability to cut commercials out of WTV and output back to WTV we would be living in heaven

or the ability to remove the flags (for backup purposes, of course)

Checked all three when I ordered mine and found Fluid Digital's to be the cheapest at a ridiculous $23.93. I don't know what possessed Ceton to go this route with their retailer distribution or why on earth all three companies decided its acceptable to rip everyone off so badly. But it will hurt them in the end when the initial demand wears off and the die hard customers dry up.

Here's a link to a list of different how to guides to cut commercials both with and without having to convert WTV files.

Lucky you, I guess they increased it at some point because there was no $10 option a few days ago. Not sure why they want to rip people off.

Around 8-10 weeks for Fluid Digital, probably the same everywhere else too.

I ordered mine from Fluid Digital at the very beginning of November and hopefully mine will be shipping in the next batch. I live right down the street from them, so I will just drive by and pick it up. They also operate a home theater store under a different name. They always take time to answer my questions about their custom HTPC's so I can improve mine. Great bunch of guys that work there. Most of their equipment is higher end all McIntosh, SonusFaber, etc.

when the HDHR comes out it will surely drop the pricing of the ceton. This is a very niche market and these guys studied this long and [H]ard to determine maximum pricing both on tuner device and shipping charges. I don't have a problem with the $399 pricing for the device if folks are willing to pay that but the shipping pricing is ridiculous considering you can have similar priced graphics card shipped for $10 bucks.

yeah but shipping for $10 is from newegg, which ships large orders all the time and can negotiate rates, not from small venders.

just part of the game, I had no issue or problem paying $430ish for my Ceton card.... I have been wanting to have this ability since MCE came out.... I have had a HTPC for 5 years hoping for this.

$430 is nothing compared to the $2k for the HP or Dell OEM systems with ATI's cable card, which was the only way to get CC in MCE at the time.

we get 4 tuners and a much more reliable tuner for $430 and get to build our own PCs to put it in.

0 complaining allowed :D

apparently people are having a lot of issues with Zones, they seem to have slowed or even stopped shipping them when compared to the other two retailers. I've been waiting 8 weeks for my order with Cannon and was just told the other day that I'm about 2 weeks out.

$430 does sound like a lot, and 30$ in shipping is kind of absurd, but Adidas is right, this is the killer app for HTPCs and its worth it to a lot of people. Still, an HTPC with CC is basically a souped up DVR+media streamer and it costs $1000+ with the tuner in there, so its not for everyone.

$430 is a very steep price for any component.
no argument here, but a lot of people drop more than that on a GPU without blinking an eye. I thought long and hard about paying it, but in the end I'm not satisfied with my ATI tuner and need something more. I'm not willing to wait until the rumored 2 tuner card comes out. I also realized that a second ATI tuner would cost me 150-200 on ebay plus the monthly fee for a second cablecard. at that point why bother, since I'd have sunk as much money in as for the ceton card. Perhaps if I need the money, I could sell the infiniTV 4 off on ebay, whether or not its for a profit, and pick up the 2 tuner version later.

sorry for rambling, but I think my reasoning is pretty typical of the average ceton buyer at this point

Very steep? You must not be building any real mid range or high end PCs or have not been building for too long.

It wasn't long ago that any modern CPU was $200-500

SSDs, GPUs CPUs RAM many components are around $400.

Now $400 is about a days work so it is a decent amount of $$ but come on. Monitors were $400 for a mid to high end and still are similar price.

Sure it's not the $99 AMD x2 but still.

LOL

that is a dumb statement....

HDHR MSRP no tax or shipping cost compared to the Ceton + tax and shipping

Its more like $250 for 3 or $400 for 4

HDHR is $83 per tuner
Ceton is $100 per tuner

plus the ceton was out around a year prior to the HDHR so early adopters always pay a little more.

either way... this is a dumb discussion at this point.

you either have $430 to spend and want a CC tuner or you dont.

All of those options require the output file to be either WMV, H.264 or DV-RMS

If you are seeing something I am not let me know.

Nope, your right. I read it wrong. Although I haven't gotten into it much as I'm still waiting on my Cablecard tuner. But is it really that much of a hassle to put it in DV-RMS? Skimming over the how-to doc's it seems like you can streamline it a lot.

It's still less than the cost of a TiVo w/ monthly/lifetime pricing.

TiVo is the only thing that comes close to this setup and it's really not that close from a feature/customization perspective. Considering the cost of a HD TiVo box plus the monthly fees as well as the fact that it's not upgradeable, it's not hard to justify the cost of the Ceton tuner (if you want a fully featured DVR system).

I've had one of these installed since October. I love the thing. Yes, it's a bit pricey for a single board, but then again, it wasn't much more expensive than buying two Hauppauge dual analog tuners several years ago.

After the whole Digital conversion and Comcast killing unencrypted channels on anything but legally required stations, My Media Center was pretty much a waste of effort. Now with this card and It's as awesome as it once was. Thank god cablecard options opened up to DIY systems.

WMC has a high WAF

It gets even better when you add channel logos and do the work to create a custom guide

My wife hated scrolling through 100s of channels we don't pay for just to find a movie or something.

With WMC you can edit your guide to only have the channels you actually pay for, which is huge... Then add the color coding of genres and channel logos and it is a very friendly DVR.

My movies is almost bullet proof and I went to MM3 over media browser for the WAF along.

MB is nice looking and have great features but would hang sometimes, or it would take a while find a newly added movie......and my wife would get pissed at it, as would I

MM3 isnt as cumstomiazable with the UI and until the latest beta lacked tv show support but is much more stable.
0 crashes of the MM3 app in 3 weeks or running it and I was getting 3-4 app charges a week.

lol, Wife Acceptance Factor?

Totally agree with the assessment.

Had a PS3, wife hated streaming requirement for any content with a decent resolution (read: HD)
Had a QNAP NAS, wife hated the retardedly slow transfer speeds
Had computer in another room hooked up to the TV via HDMI... destroyed on "walking to the other room to change the channel".
Now... I'm golden :D

All of those options require the output file to be either WMV, H.264 or DV-RMS

If you are seeing something I am not let me know.

You just need to skip the parts where they are compressing the files. That's not related to commercial skip anyway.

How wife/kid-proof is MCE/Ceton vs the Tivo interface?

It's quite good. In fact my elderly father, who uses a computer once a year, finds it easier to watch TV programming on it than the provided Cable TV box.

my order through Cannon PC placed on 11/22 finall processed! should have the card within the next business week :D

wow that is fast (ish)

I waited like 6 months for mine. Good to see they have figured out the distribution and manufacturing of the cards better.

I ordered at the end of November and my card was shipped at the end of January. It was about a 3 month wait.

Unfortunately for me, my cable co has tuning adapters on backorder so it looks like it will be another waiting game for me. this sucks.
