Video Games Saved This Man's Life

Yes, that was a good miss but why was the driver and not his passenger recording? That makes it even better in a way, he was recording AND still missed the truck.

Probably an in-car video recorder, Search the 'bay for tons of them.

He should've just said Gran Turismo instead of video games.

I drove to work that night on the same highway, a couple hundred KM east though. It was snowy and fun.

I'm pretty sure the recorder is mounted inside the car somewhere, and just records away. 99.99% of all those footage are probably boring stuff, except this 10 sec clip.

Yeah my friend runs a recorder. I think it just overwrites the sdcard each time. If something happens, just turn it off and yank the card out.

A little side bump would be better than going head-first into a semi that isn't moving anymore.

Side bump would've been the least to worry about. If a car was there, what if they did the same thing he did, and swerved to miss, perhaps going off the side of the road and into a tree or wall.

I'll agree with Satan and say he's very lucky there wasn't traffic in the lane next to him.

I'd blame the person sitting in his blindspot or in a position to be cut off. I never sit in people's blindspots for that very reason. I rather give them enough room so they can cut into my lane without incident, or I get around them quickly so I'm no longer in their blindspot.

Although any good driver is aware of their surroundings and can tell you when someone is in their blindspot without checking. The only time they wouldn't know is if someone was in a parallel lane and merged next to them into their blindspot. Which is why you check, but in an emergency you don't have time to check. Which is also why I never switch lanes into someone's blindspot. I just assume everyone else is a moron who can't drive, and have yet to have an incident on the highway.

I still manage to get rear-ended in stop and go traffic for some reason. Apparently the long line of cars and brake lights means ram into me at 40mph and cause $6,500 worth of damage. That's happened twice, luckily the second time was a lot slower and it was more like license plate damage then anything to the car so I let the punk go without involving any insurance/police.

Yeah its obviously an nvidia "the way it was meant to be played" Physx title. Did you see the way that truck realistically flew apart as it ramped that wall? :D

Sure beats running into the rig and experiencing an AMD GSOD...

I was front row for that very type of accident, over on Stemmons (635 north). When a big rig smashes through a concrete median, it rips the engine apart. Giant chunks of concrete from the median, metal shrapnel from the engine, and *gallons of hot oil* are sprayed out everywhere. I bet the driver with this cam footage felt the same thing that I did - see impact, world goes into slow motion, hear sonic boom - and about 10 seconds later you wonder if you are still alive.

Having good reflexes certainly could help avoid disasters while on the road.

I wouldn't say I have some super fast reflexes, but my reflex did once prevented me from running directly into the side some idiot. The guy drove across the street I was on just as I was approaching, panicked when he realize I was there and he stopped right in the middle of the street. I manage to braked and stop probably 1-2 feet from his car's door. I think we both were stunned and it took him a couple of seconds after that before driving off.

Totally agree on this, one should never stay directly at the corner of another car, just go slower or faster to be safe.

I guess I need to talk to my mechanic about swapping my steering wheel out for WASD and a mouse. Ah, and a spacebar for the brake. And H for the horn. Oh heck, let's just go with the whole keyboard.

Show me one person who's life has been saved by video games and I'll show you a hundred fat virgins who'll keel over from diabetes in their parent's basement before living long enough to venture out into the sun.

Obviously haven't talked to any soldiers that went overseas... Ask them about video games during down time and saving lives and they'll teach ya about quick reflexes. None of them are fat that's for sure.

after rewatching the video, i missed where they actually did say that he recorded it with a dash cam.

Maybe it's something they don't teach you over here, but back in the UK, I'm always looking beyond the car in front of me (2 second gap, should they suddenly decide to do something....not that it stops another arse from getting in between, so he can rear end them), and if I'm even thinking about merging, I always look before I merge, as well as check the mirrors, as you can guarantee some dipstick is sitting in your rear 5 or 8 o'clock.

Biggest question in my mind - why the hell does he have a video camera on his dashboard??? Am I just getting old?

some crash are hard to prove that it was not your fault as most front bumps or frount crashes are or can be the drivers fault (a lot of crashes are norm driver fault ahead that cascades into an crash behind them they tend to be the drivers who have never been Directly involved in the crash but indirectly due to there driving makes an crash behind them :) )

easier to report drivers with missing lights just send the police an avi file with an email or 1 frame with the brake lights not working, it can make car insurance cheaper as well in some cases as you more likely to be more careful if you have one fitted

i norm only do that if they was an Arse when i told them the problem with the car nicely or if they are not English or an Nigerian as they do not care (they not fix it even if told normally)

having an cam in the car as well good prof when some one rear ends you or makes you hit some one in the back (driver pulls in front of you when your going faster then them good one or side swiping the car or Nigerian type of person doing sudden stopping to make an rear end crash happen), norm you have one front, back and can also have one point at the driver as well and drivers side window (useful when some one is breaking into the car system has to be 24/7 running {as why you need extra bat for smaller cars})

can cost anywhere from £100-£800 depending on what system is used (higher priced systems, 3-4 cams and higher res cams, has speed support and 2 point G-force sensor support forward and side, second bat for cam system for constant running so not to drain main bat)
