I setup my Asrock p67 extreme4 with a 2500k yesterday,
Thought I would share some things I learned so far

- On Windows 7 (64) Windows Update will download a driver update something "Storage"
This update disables the network connection and has to be removed to get lan\internet back.
I installed it a few times to check, hide this update when you see it in Windows update.

- I figured I would update my OCZ Vertex SSD hard drive firmware since I was reinstalling windows. The drive is not seen by the update program when plugged into sata ports 0-3 only 4 or 5. I didn't try m1/m2.

Dose anyone know a good active Asrock forum? The ones they list look pretty dead.

I'm also going to roll with Asrock for SB. Posting so I'm subscribed to this thread. I don't know of a board either. There's probably one or two active Thai boards :)

My big problem is trying to distinguish the real difference in the extreme4 and 6. They both appear to have the PLX bridge chip, so I'm a bit confused. Need more reviews.

Hi all,
New to the forum but have been reading for awhile. I bought the extreme6 the other day. Kluden one of the differences from the 4 is 8 phase power for the 4 vs 16 phase power for the 6. It also looks like they use different caps and maybe a few more sata usb ports. The 6 looks to be almost the same same board as the pro (fatality) edition just different color scheme. The main reason I spent the extra $40 or so over the 4 was the power phase difference.

Sure. I mean more on the non visual differences. For example, the intel P67 bridge is in two different locations on the boards, and the PLX bridge chip as well. How do they split up the PCIe lanes, what configurations are possible, etc. SOme of these boards have hampered PCIe lanes when you fully load up the sata ports, and oddball stuff like that, where no board manufacturer will put that on their box or literature. You can really only identify those items thru professional reviews.

can anyone realize that asrock 4/6 you get the same bios as asus pro.

I don't get any of that ASUS garbage instability, but I did run into some funkiness on the Xfast software. I would recommend not using that as one of the windows updates plus that caused my ethernet port to dissapear

i had this same problem which caused me about 2 days worth of troubleshooting to figure out what exactly caused it. i never thought windows update would fuck me so badly. now i just have to deal with the computer completely freezing sometimes doing absolutely non-intensive tasks (like skype)

Homer you may be able to uninstall the update. In the Uinstall Programs Dialog select the View installed updates link.

The 4 has only 1 year warranty and the 6 and the Fatal1ty has 2 years according to NewEgg..
