Hi there folks I finally got a Molex to Sata power connection so I could hook up the e-sata ports on my Lian Li BZ-S01 media card reader but I seem to have a problem.

My thinking was that I would be able to hot swap any sata drive though this e-sata port using its cable. I got a Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 120Gb Sata 150 Drive and a WD Raptor 74Gb but when I plug these in when system is already on they don't show up on Win7 but they are spinning and then HD light is on all the time til i reboot the system even if i take the cable out of the e-sata port

Using P6TD Deluxe Mobo & Lian Li BZ-S01 media carder reader with e-SATA port

So, both of the eSATA ports are not working? Have you tried changing all the Sata cables?

Seems that only 1 drive shows up after about a min but the other doesn't. Could be the older bigger drive may nit be compatible but the small newer one is. May just end up getting a drive caddy and using USB

will change cable just to make sure though.

AHCI isn't enabled, I did enable it but system wouldn't boot using the drives. I think I saw somewhere it may need to re install OS with it enabled for it to work

Yeah thats what the eSATA isn't working: AHCI needs to be enabled. An OS reinstall isn't necessary. Just google how to reinstall Windows 7 with AHCI. IIRC, it was a simple registry hack or two.

Google enable AHCI in Windows 7. It's as simple as changing a single registry key to enable AHCI drivers for Windows 7, since they are disabled by default.

That did it, got it working after I found how to change the registry and changed it over in Bios as well. I still think my older bigger drive is too old for e-SATA to show up but atleast I can just have a single caddy and hook up my naked younger drive to the e-SATA
